The concern for ground water contamination resulting from the sanitary landfill method of disposal, the realization that adequate data were lacking, and the availability of a refuse landfill that could be used for obtaining more pertinent data, resulted in several research projects at this university. The purpose of this study was to survey head varsity football coaches to determine common methods of organizing practice sessions of successful football coaches, to compare their methods with those of unsuccessful coaches, and to disclose differences in methods used by coaches in three stratums of high school populations. Pesticides are applied to agricultural crops to maximize returns on the investment by the farmer. Granular pesticides are replacing liquid sprays in many applications. Granules are composed of a sorptive, inert carrier material impregnated with a toxicant which is released when the granules contact water. Application of pesticides by granular carrier has numerous advantages over liquid application: 1. Ease of handling and of application as no mixing or addition of water is necessary in the field. 2. The term "aflatoxicosis" is applied to the toxicosis which is produced by "aflatoxin", a poisonous metabolite produced by certain strains of Aspergillus flavus. This toxin is a part of a series of toxins produced by fungi, which may be ingested by livestock, poultry and humans to produce toxigenic effects--the so-called mycotoxicoses. The occurrence of mycotoxicoses are frequent enough considering the prevalence of fungi and their proliferation in nature. They develop under favorable environmental conditions in foods and feeds of plant origin before and after harvest.

Wheat is one of the principal cash crops in South Dakota, producing annually about 36,600,000 bushels on approximately 2,050,000 acres. Two of the major problems confronting wheat. Producers in this state are low yields and lodging. High yielding semi-dwarfs from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center in Mexico offer breeders and producers in South Dakota short straw and high yielding ability. The semi-dwarfs promise to be better suited for irrigated production than tall varieties. There is an extensive amount of published literature regarding the principles of dewatering by vacuum filtration. However, the review of the literature indicated that very little work has been done regarding the vacuum filtration of combined lime sludge and sewage sludge. The Komline-Sanderson Company, manufacturers of the coil media vacuum filter, relate that several municipalities throughout the country have attempted to dewater combined sludges, but obtained unfavorable results. This appeared to result from incorrect proportioning of the two sludges and possibly the procedures used in conditioning the sludges prior to and after combining. Many workers have suggested the possibility of an unidentified growth factor (s) in certain feed ingredients. Feeding trials conducted to determine the effect of unidentified growth factor sources on growth rates have produced inconsistent results. One of the biggest problems has been the isolation and identification of the compound responsible for the growth stimulus often obtained when unidentified growth factor sources are fed. Empirical fractionations have been done with some unidentified growth factor sources. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of audible plays at the line of scrimmage on reaction and response time of college football players, in carrying out selected offensive assignments correctly. The subjects included sixteen experienced football players from the 1967 freshman and varsity football teams at South Dakota State University. A total of 240 reaction times and 240 response times were measured. Each subject was tested with eight audible and eight nonaudible play sequences. Three practice trials were given before testing each individual. Errors were recorded, and the trials in which they occurred were repeated. The …

The most important factor influencing the income from a livestock breeding herd is the number of offspring produced per female per year. This number varies between herds and species and is influenced by such factors as disease, nutrition, genetics, management, climate, and endocrine balance. It has been estimated that over 30% of the potential offspring from the sow are lost between ovulation and the thirtieth day of pregnancy. The transition of sugar beet production from Western South Dakota to the southeastern area of the state, in 1964 and 1965, brought many changes in cropping practices. These changes occurred in the preparation of the seedbed, the seeding process, cultivation practices and methods of har�esting. The farmers, who switched to beet production, in this area were confronted with cropping practices that were completely foreign to them. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an explosive weight-training program on the leg power of nonwrestlers and their performance times of three selected wrestling maneuvers. Twenty-four male freshman nonwrestlers enrolled in a basic physical education wrestling class participated in the study which lasted fourteen weeks. After being taught the long sit-out the takedown drop, and the stand-up wrestling maneuvers, the subjects were equated in an explosive weight-training group and a nonweight-training group on the basis of their explosive leg power test scores. Many of the early attempts to determine the mechanism of nucleophilic substitution at phosphorus were based on the use of optically active compounds. Much of this work proved to be unsuccessful because of the difficulty.in obtaining the compounds, and their tendency to racemize or decompose during the reactions or workup. In the present work, a system has been developed that does not depend on optically active compounds.

Ex Desm., destroyed an estimated 70% of the South Dakota winter wheat crop in 1962, a loss of more than 12 million bushels valued at $24 million (30). Similar losses have occurred periodically in South Dakota. Breeding programs have produced resistant varieties of spring and winter wheat; however, new races of rust have developed and attacked varieties heretofor resistant. A number of changes in environmental factors and management practices have created problems in the adaptation of newly arrived cattle to their new environment.
