Freedom In Heidegger., John Duffy Trager 1937-
Freedom In Heidegger., John Duffy Trager 1937-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis represents an investigation into the meaning and development of freedom in the philosophy of Martin Heidegger. Part I deals primarily with Sein und Zeit. Dasein, human reality, is defined both as a finite, thrown being-in-the-world and as a free entity, projecting its possibilities. Dasein achieves authenticity in the renunciation of the crowd and by embracing its ultimate possibility--death. The conclusion to Part I argues for the identity, in Heidegger's thought, of finite freedom and temporality. Part II deals with Gelassenheit, a work of Heidegger's latter period. Freedom is expressed in a new vocabulary. Man must release himself but …
Effects Of Aldrin On Young Pen-Reared Pheasants, Joseph Edward Hall
Effects Of Aldrin On Young Pen-Reared Pheasants, Joseph Edward Hall
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Three levels of encapsulated aldrin (.05, 1.0, and 1.5 mg) were administered weekly to young pen-reared pheasants from 5 to 11 weeks of age to determine effects on growth and residue levels in brain, feathers, and whole body during and after treatment. During treatment, birds were weighed weekly. After treatment ceased, birds were weighed every other week until 21 weeks of ---. Analysis of residues was by electron capture gas chromatography. Growth of pheasants --- 5 to 21 weeks of age was depressed (P 0.01) by administration of aldrin dosages of 1.0 to 1.5 mg. Aldrin values in the brain …
Flavor Preference And Stability Of A Low-Fat Dairy Spread, James Robert Miller
Flavor Preference And Stability Of A Low-Fat Dairy Spread, James Robert Miller
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Low-fat dairy spread has been defined as a product which contains only dairy ingredients and has a lower fat content than the commonly used spreads, butter and margarine (5). Although some low-fat spreads have contained very little fat, most of those which have been developed during the past 30 years have contained about one-third to two-thirds as much fat as the commonly used spreads and have had a higher protein content. ·The low-fat dairy spread studied in this project contained about ten times more protein and only one-half as much fat as butter and margarine. The present day justification of …
Abnormal Milk Evaluations In Eastern South Dakota Milk Plants And Dairy Herds, Edwin J. Kleen
Abnormal Milk Evaluations In Eastern South Dakota Milk Plants And Dairy Herds, Edwin J. Kleen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many years bovine mastitis has been a major problem for dairy producers, the seriousness of which can be measured by the volumes of literature which have been written about it as well as the economic losses incurred by the dairy industry because of it. The fact that mastitis is still a virulent disease in spite of the vast amount of research conducted on it would suggest either that the underlying causes of mastitis still are not completely understood or that the knowledge gained through research has not been presented effectively to those who need it most—namely the dairy farmer. …

Effect Of Ductility On Initiation And Spread Of Fracture In Solids, Tien Yu Hsieh
Effect Of Ductility On Initiation And Spread Of Fracture In Solids, Tien Yu Hsieh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The pioneer A. A. Griffith (1921), led by Inglis' idea (1913) of stress distribution around an elliptical void, set up the fundamental theory of rupture and flow in solids for the contemporary scientists in the field of fracture mechanics. Today his theory is the well known Griffith fracture criterion extensively used in investigation and explanation of fracture phenomena. Two of the recent researchers who contributed substan-tially to the field of fracture mechanics are I. N. Sneddon (1946) and R. Sack (1948). They have both derived expressions for the critical stress around a three dimensional penny-shaped crack. In addition, Sneddon found …
Effect Of Rhythmical Disturbances On Repetitive Assembly Work, Ranganatha Hemmige
Effect Of Rhythmical Disturbances On Repetitive Assembly Work, Ranganatha Hemmige
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The field of industrial engineering has been traditionally based on the desire to produce more goods for less money. This goal has been accomplished by a variety of methods, including improved methods, monetary incentives, and nonmonetary incentives. In the modern industry all of these may be used. Studies to isolate the effects-of such types of incentives frequently, although not exclusively, have been conducted on highly repetitive tasks. This occurs for a number of reasons: 1. The simple task reduces the variability of the output both in quality and quantity. 2. Any given number of cycles will take less time since …
Characteristics And Distribution Of Staphylococci And Micrococci Isolated From Bovine Udders, Clyde Arnold Kirkbride
Characteristics And Distribution Of Staphylococci And Micrococci Isolated From Bovine Udders, Clyde Arnold Kirkbride
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Mastitis remains the most costly disease of dairy cattle. The annual loss to the dairy industry in the United States from this disease has been estimated between $225 and $500 million per year. Ninety to 95% of infectious mastitis is reported to be associated with Streptococcus agalactiae or Staphylococcus spp. Staphylococcus aureus and others of the family Micrococcaceae are reported to be the second most commonly found udder pathogens. The pathogenesis of staphylococcic mastitis remains poorly understood. Some research data have indicated that the disease is essentially contagious, and that the source of the organism is an infected udder, and …
The Effect Of Sodium Hexametaphosphate On The Palatability Of The Freeze-Dried Chicken, Ngoc Hoa Giang
The Effect Of Sodium Hexametaphosphate On The Palatability Of The Freeze-Dried Chicken, Ngoc Hoa Giang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Freeze-drying has been generally regarded as the mildest method known for drying meats, but even this process has caused undesirable changes in meat quality. The texture of rehydrated freeze-dried meat has been found to be tougher and drier than untreated meats. In addition, the meat may have a "woody" texture. Apparently something has occurred during the freeze-dry process that reduced the water-holding capacity of the meat. This has been reflected in the meat's inability to become fully rehydrated. Sodium hexametaphosphate (SHNP) has been used successfully to increase the water-holding capacity of meat and fowl. No study has been conducted to …
Scattering Parameters Of Vhf Semiconductor Devices, Young Dae Kim
Scattering Parameters Of Vhf Semiconductor Devices, Young Dae Kim
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since Campbell and Foster first used scattering parameters in studying the properties of ideal transformer networks, much work has been done with scattering parameters in the analysis of microwave circuits and general lumped parameter networks. An excellent summary for micro wave circuits appears in Montgomery Dicke, and Purcell. Application of scattering parameters to network synthesis was attempted by Oono and Yasuura. Youla also extended scattering parameter theory by complex normalization. He and Penfield5 later applied scattering parameters in analyzing negative resistance amplifiers in ·conjunction with the development of the tunnel diode. The rapid development of high-frequency technologies in the past …
Factor Analysis As A Tool In Identifying Some Factors Affecting The Structure Of The Fluid Milk Processing Industry In South Dakota, Chong H. Lee
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Like all levels of the dairy industry, the market structure and the competitive conditions in the processing and distribution of fluid milk in South Dakota have undergone substantial changes in the past two decades. The major structural changes have been the decline in the number of fluid milk processing plants and the expansion of the remaining plants. These changes in structure have resulted in a changed pattern of distribution for fluid milk. In the past years, fluid milk was distributed only in areas in close proximity to the plants, and a high percentage of the milk was delivered directly to …
The Influence Of Sodium Phenobarbital On The Hepatic Adenosine Triphosphatase Activity And The Development Of This Enzyme In The Rat, Gerald H. Mettler
The Influence Of Sodium Phenobarbital On The Hepatic Adenosine Triphosphatase Activity And The Development Of This Enzyme In The Rat, Gerald H. Mettler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was two-fold: {A) To obtain information concerning the influence of sodium phenobarbital on the hepatic microsomal enzyme system which reduces adenosine triphosphate in adult male and female rats; (B) To measure the development of hepatic adenosine triphosphatase activity of newborn and infant rats. Intraperitoneal administration of 30 to 150 mgm./Kq. of sodium phenobarbital for three to five days to adult male and female rats did not increase adenosine triphosphatase activity. These findings are rather pertinent since many enzyme systems are stimulated by much lower dosage levels of enzyme inducers, such as sodium Phenobarbital, over a …

Optimization Of A One-Story Two-Bay Steel Frame With Haunches By Linear Programming, Kenneth L. Loeschke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The main objective of this investigation is to determine the optimum design variables which will minimize the weight of a structure, the number of variables was chosen to obtain a high degree of flexibility in design and to reduce linearization errors in the constraint equations. The linear equations used in the simplex method of analysis were approximated by applying Taylor's first order of expansion theorem to the nonlinear constraint equations and the objective function. This technique of approximation is known as the cutting plane method. After each optimization of the approximate linear equations by the simplex method, new coefficients for …

Some Factors Affecting The Growth Of Grain Elevators In South Dakota, Albert E. Raeder
Some Factors Affecting The Growth Of Grain Elevators In South Dakota, Albert E. Raeder
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study was undertaken to determine some of the characteristics which cause some elevators to grow and others to decline. The identification of such characteristics has important implications for grain elevator operators, farmers, and community leaders of small towns. South Dakota is served by 450 elevators and they were first analyzed on the basis of their radius of business and the volume of grain they handle per year. When the radius of business for eighteen large elevators was averaged, it was found that the average radius was 32.4 miles. Based on this radius of business, it was found that South …
Reliability Study Of A Modified Los Angeles Rattler Test, Joe H. Smith
Reliability Study Of A Modified Los Angeles Rattler Test, Joe H. Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The ever constant demand for more and better roads and concrete structures has forced the engineer to seek construction materials with better physical properties. Because of this demand, our nation's once vast supply of high quality, easily accessible natural resources is becoming depleted. One such natural resource is mineral aggregates. These mineral aggregates may be classified as the smaller rocks composed of one or more minerals. The money expended for the procurement and placement of mineral aggregates for highway use represents approximately one-fourth of the total highway cost. Because of this large amount of money spent annually for mineral aggregates, …
Flavor Factors Involved In Acceptability Of Carp For Human Consumption, Clarice E. Shank
Flavor Factors Involved In Acceptability Of Carp For Human Consumption, Clarice E. Shank
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Carp constitutes one of South Dakota's relatively untapped natural resources. Mis-named a trash fish, it represents a largely unappreciated source of high biological protein food. Little research has been developed to date concerning this vigorous and adaptable fresh-water fish. In Asian and European countries the carp has long been cultivated as a desirable food fish. Introduced into the waters of this country however, the carp competed so successfully against game fish that it soon lost favor. Methods for eliminating carp from lakes and rivers have proved only partially effective. Prejudice against carp as a desirable food fish has continued to …

Signal Attenuation In V.H.F. Biotelemetry, John Schmelzer
Signal Attenuation In V.H.F. Biotelemetry, John Schmelzer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this paper, the change in loop resistance is examined when the loop is placed at the center of a spherical air cavity which is in turn surrounded by a sphere of physiological saline solution, as shown. The functional dependence of the magnitude of the dissipation resistance on the cavity radius will be studied. The validity of introducing a dissipation resistance will be experimentally tested by immersing a loop in a physiological saline solution and directly measuring the change in resistance with an r.f. bridge. Once the increase in resistance is established, the resultant reduction in radiated power will be …
Characteristics Of Low-Income Families In The Head Start Program In Three Eastern South Dakota Counties, Christopher Lee Smith
Characteristics Of Low-Income Families In The Head Start Program In Three Eastern South Dakota Counties, Christopher Lee Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Little has been published which deals specifically with families in the Head Start program. Therefore, it would seem most appropriate to ask: What characteristics do Head Start families possess; in what way, if any, do these characteristics differ from those characteristics which are frequently attributed to the "poverty type" family; and, what are the Head Start parents impressions of the Head Start program. Objective 1. To determine the extent to which a sample of Head Start families possesses certain social and demographic characteristics which have been cited as common among families participating in the Head Start program, or among poverty …
A Study Of Protein Content And Its Relationships To Other Phenotypic Characters In Iterspecific Oat Crosses, Leroy A. Spilde
A Study Of Protein Content And Its Relationships To Other Phenotypic Characters In Iterspecific Oat Crosses, Leroy A. Spilde
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Plant hybridizers in the past century depended primarily upon the crossing of cultivars with superior agronomic and quality characteristics as a method of improving yield potential of hybrids and derived pure lines. The hybridizer is continually faced with · the challenge of finding genetic sources of resistance to diseases which cause reduction in yie1d and often lower grain qua1ity. Often there is no known superior source of resistance within the species. This has motivated a search of species related to common oats, Avena sativa L., as sources for developing resistance in cultivated varieties. Concern is intensifying over the rapidly expanding …
Effect Of Atrazine And Its Carriers On The Grain Sorghum Plant, Clair E. Stymiest
Effect Of Atrazine And Its Carriers On The Grain Sorghum Plant, Clair E. Stymiest
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The addition of crop oils to post-emergent applications of atrazine has enhanced the weed control properties of the atrazine. This treatment has been used very effectively for the control of annual weeds in corn and sorghum. Because the treatment was applied post-emergence, it could be empl6yed after the farmer found he would have difficulty controlling annual weeds. The treatment was, then, an ideal salvage measure for the farmer who could not cultivate his field because of rainy weather. The atrazine plus oil treatment appeared to work better under rainy weather conditions than it did A rainy season in the southeastern …
An Investigation Of The Pollutional Characteristics Of Runoff From Two Feedlots, Paul E. Thormodsgard
An Investigation Of The Pollutional Characteristics Of Runoff From Two Feedlots, Paul E. Thormodsgard
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The need for runoff facilities at animal feeding operations has just been recognized in the past few years. Concern has been expressed by water pollution control officials in regard to the pollution potential of animal wastes. As a result, regulations to reduce pollution from feedlot sources are being formulated. South Dakota and several states are in the process of drawing up similar regulations. Unfortunately, these regulations are, in some cases, being formulated with limited evidence of the pollution resulting directly from animal feeding operations. A recent study conducted in the Big Sioux River basin in South Dakota indicted that feedlots …
Management And Nutrition Of Early Weaned Foals, Brian P. Thiel
Management And Nutrition Of Early Weaned Foals, Brian P. Thiel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
With the current trends in horse popularity, the demand for horses as performance and pleasure animals has increased. As this demand has increased, many horses have been retained solely for their ability as working animals. Therefore, many mares have not been bred since pregnancy would hinder their usefulness. If the horse owner is to breed his mare and also use her as a performance animal, he must initially contend with the pregnant mare and after parturition with the often annoying foal. For the mare to produce a foal and also be used as an effective performance animal, the foal should …

Interseeding As A Grassland Improvement Practice In Central South Dakota, Roger P. Wickstrom
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The state of South Dakota has many natural resources. One which plays a very important part in the economy of the state is grasslands. These grasslands are extremely variable and range from the tallgrass prairie in eastern South Dakota to the shortgrass prairie in the western part of the state. The most important and useful method of grassland management is proper grazing management. This must be used in combination with all other forms of improvement if they are to be successful. There are many acres of grasslands which can best be improved by complete re-establishment. This would include plowing and …
