A Study Of Printing Management Graduates Of South Dakota State University 1956 To 1970, Bruce Otto Oberlander
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Between 1956 and 1970 a total of 125 students had earned either a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree, or both, in printing management at South Dakota State University. One student was deceased, leaving 124 graduates of the printing management programs. The problem consisted of obtaining information concerning the attitudes of graduates toward the printing management program and the adequacy of their college preparation at South Dakota State University. Other information concerning the location, education, employment and income of the graduates was also sought as part of the study. The study had two major objectives. First, to …

The Effects Of A Collegiate Basketball Season On Selected Fitness Measurements, John Lee Eidsness
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in selected cardiovascular fitness and body measurements of collegiate varsity basketball players during and following a season of training and competition.
Hypothesis
The following hypothesis was investigated:
1. There is no significant change throughout a season of competitive varsity basketball in the variables of maximal oxygen uptake, leg strength, leg power, and percent body fat delimitation.
Limitations and delimination of the study:
1. The subjects used in this study were nine South Dakota State University basketball players.
2. Data were collected only on cardiovascular endurance leg strength, leg power, and …
Test Of Various Insecticides As Systemics In Wheat Upon The Army Cutworm, Lavarre Delancy Uhlken
Test Of Various Insecticides As Systemics In Wheat Upon The Army Cutworm, Lavarre Delancy Uhlken
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There are many species of cutworms. They vary greatly in population from year to year. The army cutworm, Euxoa auxiliaris (Grote), is very common from the Rockies east to the Great Plains and is occasionally a severe pest to wheat in these areas. Daniels (1964) found that normally, army cutworms feed largely on the upper portions of plants. Where large populations of this cutworm are present, plants are consumed to the ground. After consuming nearly all the vegetation in one areas, cutworms mill migrate by the thousands to adjacent fields. The army cutworm has 1 generation a year, wintering as …
Occupational Aspirations And Expectations Of Seminary Students, William Mastin Cross
Occupational Aspirations And Expectations Of Seminary Students, William Mastin Cross
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study was developed as the result of a long-term interest in occupational choice. The basic problem of the study was the nature of the relations between influences perceived by seminarians on their occupational choice, and their occupational specialization. The basic objective was to explore the nature and extent of this relation. Literature was reviewed dealing with the relation of reference groups to classical and contemporary theory. Literature related to reference theory dealing with medical students and ministerial specialization was also dealt with. The basic theoretical model used was that of Merton. He related reference group theory to the occupational …
The Effects Of Rapid Decompression On Total Plasma Phospholipids And Selected Hematological Parameters In Dogs, Lawrence J. Fortuna
The Effects Of Rapid Decompression On Total Plasma Phospholipids And Selected Hematological Parameters In Dogs, Lawrence J. Fortuna
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this project was twofold: (1) measure the change in total plasma phospholipids due to rapid decompression, and (2) measure the effects of rapid decompression on selected hematological parameters. An attempt has been made to show that an increase in phospholipids following rapid decompression does occur. This attempt was made to substantiate the Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) Theory of the etiology of decompression sickness. (See more in text)
An Analysis Of Three Approaches To Grammar With Recommendations For A Multiphasal Grammar, Rose Marsha Kessler
An Analysis Of Three Approaches To Grammar With Recommendations For A Multiphasal Grammar, Rose Marsha Kessler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Today the teacher is confronted with three approaches to the teaching of grammar, all of which contain useful concepts; it is the major contention of this study that the best of each of these approaches may be the desired choice. It is the intention of this paper to propose a multiphasal grammar and to show that such a grammar seems to be the ultimate direction for the teaching of the English language. This multiphasal grammar will combine the best of the three approaches: the most useful and logical elements of traditional nomenclature; the structuralists' emphasis on the sound of language, …
An Analysis Of The Investment Of The Common School Permanent Fund In South Dakota, John Edward Keeping
An Analysis Of The Investment Of The Common School Permanent Fund In South Dakota, John Edward Keeping
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The investment of public monies constitutes a source of revenue independent of State taxes or other non-tax charges on the public. The return accruing from the prudent investment of these funds is the potential source of this revenue. This thesis will deal with an examination of the investment of one such source of revenue—the Common School Permanent Fund of the State of South Dakota.
Molybdenum Phthalocyanine Compounds, Robert John Losinski
Molybdenum Phthalocyanine Compounds, Robert John Losinski
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As part of an investigation into the chemistry of molybdenum underway at South Dakota State University it became necessary to investigate the possible existence of the linear dioxomolybdenum (VI) (Moo2 2+) moiety. In order to attain this goal, a planar quadradentate chelate of very limited flexibility was necessary. A chelate which satisfied thiscriterion was phthalocyanine. A literature search revealed no evidence of a molybdenum complex containing the linear dioxomolybdenum (VI) group. While molybdenum phthalocyanine complexes had been reported, chemical and physical evidence to substantiate the formulation was limited and in several instances was contradictory. Therefore it was decided to investigate …
Effects Of Dieldrin On The Social Interactions Of Penned Pheasants And Chickens, Nancy Hayden Field
Effects Of Dieldrin On The Social Interactions Of Penned Pheasants And Chickens, Nancy Hayden Field
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Studies to determine the effects of dieldrin on social hierarchy of pheasants and chickens were initiated in 1970. Social interactions were observed among groups of pheasant chicks, adult cock and hen pheasants and peck-order development among groups of young pheasants. To determine the effects of dieldrin on the pecking behavior of individual birds, pairs of pheasants and pairs of chickens were placed in a neutral cage. When patterns of dominance and subordination were consistent, dieldrin in capsules (4 mg to pheasants and 6 and 10 mg to chickens twice weekly) was given to one member of each pair and birds …
A Comparison Of Aspen And Pine Communities In The Northern Black Hills, Jeremiah J. Kranz
A Comparison Of Aspen And Pine Communities In The Northern Black Hills, Jeremiah J. Kranz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Three study areas, each containing an aspen (Populus tremuloides) community, a pine (Pinus ponderosa) community, and a mixed aspen-pine community, were studied during the summers of 1968, 1969, and 1970. Soil chemistry, plant chemistry, overstory density, understory production, and use by whitetail deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and cattle (Bos taurus) were determined for each community in each study. Pine and aspen communities of one study area were sampled for soil and plant chemistry. Soil phosphate and potassium levels were higher in the aspen community, while soil nitrates were higher in the pine community. Soil pH was similar to the two communities. …

The Pre-Court Career Of John Marshall Harlan., Thomas L. Owen
The Pre-Court Career Of John Marshall Harlan., Thomas L. Owen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The thesis deals with the political career of John Marshall Harlan prior to his appointment in 1877 as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court. Throughout the majority of those twenty-three active years in Kentucky politics, Harlan was an adamant defender of the slave system, and despite the fact that he had been a strong Unionist during the Civil War, he resisted emancipation of the slaves and opposed every effort to gain civil rights for the blacks once they were freed. When Harlan became a Republican in 1868, he hurriedly reversed himself, and became a consistent advocate of …
