Movements And Habitat Use By Hen Pheasants During Brood Rearing, Lynn E. Hanson Jan 1971

Movements And Habitat Use By Hen Pheasants During Brood Rearing, Lynn E. Hanson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Land-use patterns characteristic of prime pheasant range in the Great Plains and prairie region have 50-75 percent of the land under cultivation according to Kimball et. al. (1956). Farmland is pheasant habitat, and the production of pheasants is therefore greatly influenced by farming practices. Considerable research has been done on rates of pheasant production, nest success, and cover preferences for nesting. However, little information has been obtained on movements and cover preferences for brood rearing. Most studies of the type of cover utilized by pheasant broods have been based on roadside and random field observations. Kozicky and Hendrickson (1951) carried …

An Investigation Of The Effects Of Instantaneous Jockeying In Queues By Simulation, B. Radindranath Jan 1971

An Investigation Of The Effects Of Instantaneous Jockeying In Queues By Simulation, B. Radindranath

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In today's world, waiting lines formed by people, machines and other types of units are commonplace. Queues form whenever the current demand for a service exceeds the current capacity to provide that service. In many cases, the interarrival times or service times are not constants, but involve distributions from which the values occur randomly.

A waiting line causes concern when there is an economic value associated with it. A waiting line may have a negative monetary value if units leave without service, or if units have costs as they wait. Idle service facilities may also have a negative monetary value …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

American football has undergone many significant changes since its first recorded game between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869. Once change has been the growth in the importance of the forward pass to the offense. Rockne cites the year 1912 as a turning point of the growth in popularity of football. It was during this year that the Rules Committee removed many of the restrictions against the forward pass and made more definite the penalties against interfering with the receiver. Rockne states that this increase in the popularity of football is due “entirely to the open game, to the increase of …

Insects are one of man’s primary ecological competitors and the weapons that he uses against them, if not chosen wisely, may contribute more to the destruction of his paradise than his weapons of war. It is now common knowledge that the indiscriminate …

The Chemistry Of Some Unusual Carbodiimides, Donald Melvin Plautz Jan 1971

The Chemistry Of Some Unusual Carbodiimides, Donald Melvin Plautz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Several N1-alkyl-N2-(N,N-dialkylamino)carbodiimides, which were found to form dimeric species, were prepared, and the structure of the dimeric species determined. A study of the reaction chemistry of both the monomeric and dimeric carbodiimides led to the conclusion that dimerization occurred via a (π2s + π2a) ground-state, symmetry-allowed mechanism, and that thermal decomposition of the dimeric species occurred via a (π2s +-π2s) excited-state, symmetry-allowed mechanism. Although dialkylphosphoramidates have been shown to be useful intermediates in the preparation of unsaturated organic nitrogen compounds, N-acyl- and N-imino-dialkylphosphorohydrazidates were found to be too unstable, forming trialkylphosphates upon distillation, to be of …

A Characterization Of Four Prairie Grasses, Carolyn A. Cogswell Jan 1971

A Characterization Of Four Prairie Grasses, Carolyn A. Cogswell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Even though native range forages have been available a long time, there is little research data concerning the specific grasses characterized as native forage or browse. Little research has been done to study these forages because of their natural habitat far from research laboratories, the task of collecting enough forage for adequate sample testing, and sparse yet hardy existence and questionable known vegetative growth with each year's different climate and environmental conditions. Certainly it seems logical that at some future time the knowledge of their nutritive value will become important. Perhaps then with adequate management the rancher can improve upon …
