Evaluation Of Urea And Dried Whey In Diets Of Cows During Early Lactation, David Paul Casper
Evaluation Of Urea And Dried Whey In Diets Of Cows During Early Lactation, David Paul Casper
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Previous research indicated that soluble nitrogen may be utilized more efficiently for rumen microbial production in diets containing dried whey. To further evaluate this, 33 Holstein, cows (30 multiparous and 3 primiparous) were fed one of three concentrate mixes containing all natural proteins (SBM). 1% urea (U), or 1% urea and 30% dried whey (UDW) from wk 3 through 16 postpartum. Urea replaced portions of the soybean meal in the SBM mix while dried whey replaced portions of the corn and soybean meal. Cows were fed total mixed rations consisting of 40% (dry matter basis) corn silage, 10% alfalfa hay, …
An Analysis Of The Application Of Quality Circles On Education, Anthony O. Anyaocha
An Analysis Of The Application Of Quality Circles On Education, Anthony O. Anyaocha
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An alternative to American bureaucratic philosophy of management came to the United States from Japan during the decade of the 1970s. The philosophy of the Japanse style of management was based upon the use of creativity and talent of others, including the following concepts: (1) Everyone is knowledgeable and wants to share and contribute something; (2) Management does not know all the problems; (3) Management does not know all the answers; (4) The employee has his own way of doing something and is closer to the problems; (5) Workers can contribute their ideas for effective problem solving. The implementation of …
Characterization Of Kpni Interspersed, Repetitive Dna Sequence Families And Their Association With The Nuclear Matrix, Joseph A. Chimera
Characterization Of Kpni Interspersed, Repetitive Dna Sequence Families And Their Association With The Nuclear Matrix, Joseph A. Chimera
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The KpnI, 1.2 and 1.5 kb families of interspersed repetitive DNAs from the African green monkey genome were isolated and characterized. Each family contains three populations of segments based on their sequence lengths and susceptibility to cleavage by the restriction enzymes KpnI and RsaI. The first population contains the smallest segments which are susceptible to both KpnI and RsaI cleavage and have fragment lengths of 1.2 kb (1.2 kb family) and 1.5 kb (1.5 kb family) respectively. The members in this population are referred to as KpnI-sensitive segments. The second population contains longer segments (> 2 kb) which represent fusions …
Power Motivation And Power Style In Higher Education Administration (Personal Power), Nancy L. Garland
Power Motivation And Power Style In Higher Education Administration (Personal Power), Nancy L. Garland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between selected personal characteristics of higher education administrators and their perceived levels of power motivation and power style. The techniques of ex post facto research were used in this study. The Power Management Inventory developed by Jay Hall and James Hawker was selected as the appropriate instrument for use in this study. The Power Management Inventory was designed to provide a comparison between one's espoused theory (power motivation) and one's theory in action (power style). A personal data sheet was used to obtain information concerning the personal characteristics …

The Use Of Newspapers For Teaching Language Arts And Reading, Roy L. Gillis
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to determine if achievement scores in reading and language arts could be increased for students who participated in the newspapers in education program. Ninety-three seventh grade students were selected for the study; seventy-seven students completed the study, sixteen students were lost due to attrition. Two experimental groups and one control group were selected by random assignment from the seventh grade class at one school. The Metropolitan Achievement Test was administered to all students as a pretest. After completion of the experimental treatment in two successive twelve week periods, the Metropolitan Instructional Test for reading …
A Comparison Of Personality Types Between Deans/Directors Of Continuing Education And Chief Academic Officers In Selected Post-Secondary Institutions In North Carolina, Mary F. Joseph
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem was to determine whether significant relationships existed between the personality types of deans/directors of continuing education and chief academic officers in institutions of higher education in North Carolina. Literature was reviewed in order to determine the research that had been completed using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) with administrators in post-secondary institutions. A demographic questionnaire was developed to ascertain information about the type and size of the institutions, as well as data about the respondent. All post-secondary institutions, excluding business and trade schools, in North Carolina were included in the study. The dean/director of continuing education and chief …

Host-Plant Interactions Of Diabrotica Cristata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) And Prairie Grasses In East-Central South Dakota, Niamoye D. Yaro
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis concerns the biology of Diabrotica cristata a small relatively inconspicuous beetle inhabiting relict prairie and grass lands in the Great Plains Region of North America. Diabrotica cristata has been classified taxonomically in the virgifera group and is, therefore, closely related to several very important pest species including Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, the western corn rootworm (WCR), Diabrotica virgifera Krysan and Smith, the Mexican corn rootworm (MCR) and Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence, the northern corn rootworm (NCR). The genus Diabrotica (Chrysomelidae) is composed of three groups: fucata, virgifera and signifera. The virgifera group not only includes the above …
Reduced Tillage Effects On Weed Control, Soil Properties, And Dominant Weed Species In Southeastern South Dakota, Mark A. Wrucke
Reduced Tillage Effects On Weed Control, Soil Properties, And Dominant Weed Species In Southeastern South Dakota, Mark A. Wrucke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, farmers have made dramatic changes in their tillage practices. The conventional plow-disk-drag system allows farmers to control weeds, remove crop residue, and prepare the soil for planting. The development of 2,4-D [(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetic acid] in the 1940’s and of additional herbicides since then has greatly reduced the need for tillage to control weeds. Improvements in planting equipment allow farmers to use crop residue to their benefit. Farmers using tillage systems which leave residue on the soil surface can realize savings of time, labor, and equipment together with increased moisture and soil conservation while. maintaining yields equal to …
The Theory And Practice Of Misspelling : A Linguistic Analysis, Judy Frasch Worman
The Theory And Practice Of Misspelling : A Linguistic Analysis, Judy Frasch Worman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The freshmen at South Dakota State University are primarily students who have lived their entire lives in small agricultural communities. They are neither stupid nor unintelligent but merely inexperienced in writing formal exposition. Many of them come from towns with populations under one-thousand and high school graduating classes of twenty-five to fifty. Their primary means of communication (up until they enrolled in college) was through speech. Because they rarely write, they feel very uncomfortable about learning to write effectively. For the most part, these inexperienced writers are bright but unable to express themselves orthographically. There were some who, in spite …
