An Investigation Of Costs For Heating And Power Generation At South Dakota State College, Julius William Ulmer
An Investigation Of Costs For Heating And Power Generation At South Dakota State College, Julius William Ulmer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This investigation is to determine the amount of steam necessary to heat the buildings and to generate power on the campus of South Dakota State College. It is also concerned with a comparison of the cost of producing steam by burning coal and by burning natural gas. Part of the campus buildings are heated by low pressure steam. When the turbo-generator is in operation, the turbine exhaust steam is used for heating purposes. During periods of cold weather the turbine exhaust steam is not sufficient, and therefore steam at boiler pressure is reduced to the turbine exhaust pressure through a …
A Study On Turkish Highways, Orhan Tasangil
A Study On Turkish Highways, Orhan Tasangil
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the time of the Seljuk Turks and the Ottoman Empire, the majority of the roads were built for the purpose of the major military campaigns. Later, the discovery of the ocean rout via the Cape of Good Hope caused the old caravan routes to be neglected; and consequently, the roads of Turkey were allowed to deteriorate. With the development of express highways and modern commercial vehicles, Turkey has now entered an era in which road transport is again in a position to compete even with sea transportation. Turkey, therefore, will play once again an important part internationally and this …

A strong local organization with a solid, well-planned financing system will insure that the benefits of the project will continue to …
Pondermotive Forces Of Electrical Origin In Liquid Dielectrics, Norma Allan Peppers
Pondermotive Forces Of Electrical Origin In Liquid Dielectrics, Norma Allan Peppers
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For years the expression for the force per unit volume which arises in a liquid dielectric as a result of an electric field has been a source of discussion and controversy. Several different expressions for this volume force occur in the literature and, of these, two seem to be most prominent. Each of the expressions has many supporters. Consequently, there has been much theoretical and some experimental work concerning volume forces in a liquid dielectric. Although the most recent writers apparently have dispelled much of the mystery which has long shrouded this topic, some questions remain unanswered. Moreover, since history …

Estimating Commercial Expansion In Brookings Resulting From The Anticipated Increases In South Dakota State College Enrollments, Norma Ruth Koch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An educational institution such as South Dakota State College benefits the community in which it is located in various ways. In addition to the benefits which accrue from the services which the college provides to the community, and from research, educational, cultural and recreational facilities which are open to members of the community, material benefits, such as additional employment, consumer population and business activity are also derived from a college’s enrollment and employment. In order to determine the material benefits which Brookings will derive from the location of South Dakota State College in the community, an estimate of the business …
An Electronic Fluid Flow Analyzer For Pipeline Networks, Harold Charles Falk
An Electronic Fluid Flow Analyzer For Pipeline Networks, Harold Charles Falk
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To the engineer dealing with fluid flow in distribution networks such as urban water distribution systems, the study of flow and pressure throughout the system is a complex problem involving tedious calculations unless some sort of analogue aid is given him. The McIlroy Fluid Network Analyzer, devised in 1948 by the late Malcolm S. McIlroy, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Cornell University, has been an invaluable aid to the person investigating this problem of fluid network analysis. This analyzer, however, is quite expensive, and it seems quite likely that a more inexpensive analyzer can be developed using a somewhat different …
Steam Condensate Corrosion Study Of Return Line Deterioration At South Dakota State College Power Plant, Kenneth Duane Christianson
Steam Condensate Corrosion Study Of Return Line Deterioration At South Dakota State College Power Plant, Kenneth Duane Christianson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this experimental work was to determine and analyze the type, rate, and causes of corrosion in the South Dakota State college steam power plant condensate lines. Since corrosion at this power plant requires an excessive amount of money for labor and pipe replacement, an investigation leading to reduction in corrosion would justify this study and would benefit other people who have to contend with the hard waters present in South Dakota. The method used to determine the rate of corrosion was the installation of a corrosion tester in the condensate discharge line of the hot water heaters …

Results Obtained From New And Remodeled Poultry Houses In South Dakota, Boyd J. Bonzer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this survey was to attempt, in an organized way, to determine the opinion of a group of flock owners who were using poultry house recommendations included in South Dakota College Extension Circular 516, Modern Poultry Housing, March, 1956. Early in 1958 the circular was in short supply for the second time since the original printing. As a result, the Extension Poultry Office had been granted authority to have another supply printed. At this time it seemed important to delay reprinting the circular until some of its contents could be evaluated. An attempt to determine how many of …
Raw Sewage Stabilization Ponds As A Means Of Sewage Treatment, John Robert Anderson
Raw Sewage Stabilization Ponds As A Means Of Sewage Treatment, John Robert Anderson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The successful operation of sewage stabilization ponds by a number of North and South Dakota communities during the past few years has shown this method of disposal to be adequate in taking care of the needs of small communities. Since land is relatively cheap compared to construction work involved in the building of a sewage treatment plant, and since the actual construction cost of a stabilization pond I s a comparatively small figure, this type of treatment has been readily accepted by the smaller communities. Because stabilization ponds are primarily successful due to solar radiation and vary according to climatic …
Construction And Evaluation Of The Performance Of A Horizontal Well In A Shallow, Thin Aquifer, Eugene J. Doering
Construction And Evaluation Of The Performance Of A Horizontal Well In A Shallow, Thin Aquifer, Eugene J. Doering
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since infiltration galleries have been effective as a means of securing large quantities of water from thin aquifers, the question has arisen as to whether or not a small horizontal well that would yield sufficient water for irrigation could be constructed at a cost that would be within the budget of the family-sized farm in South Dakota. If so, a subsequent problem would be the development of some method of estimating the quantity of water a particular aquifer will yield to such a well. A possible approach would be to relate a certain length of horizontal casing to a vertical …
