The Board Of Internal Improvement Of Kentucky, 1835-1850., Joe F. Decker
The Board Of Internal Improvement Of Kentucky, 1835-1850., Joe F. Decker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For a brief period of fifteen years, the Board of Internal Improvement occupied a place of prominence in the political and economic affairs of Kentucky. From its creation in 1835, until the revision of the constitution in 1850, the board spent vast sums of state money on the various projects for the internal improvement of the state. The magnitude of the undertaking, and the amount of state money spent, make this one of the most important areas for study in the political and economic development of Kentucky. The improvements which were made in the transportation facilities of the state, and …
Characteristics Of Chicken Wastes And Disposal By Lagooning, Charles Roger Wieting
Characteristics Of Chicken Wastes And Disposal By Lagooning, Charles Roger Wieting
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Disposal of poultry manure is becoming a greater problem as confinement of bird increases, flocks become larger, and poultry acreages decrease. Also, poultry production units are moving closer to urban areas, necessitating greater sanitation practices. Water pollution caused by surface runoff of farm animal wastes has caused additional concern for proper disposal methods. Several methods of disposal of poultry manure that have been proposed as solutions include: digesting, lagooning, field spreading as a liquid, field spreading of fresh droppings, drying, and composting. Before facilities for adequate treatment of animal wastes can be designed, the chemical, physical, and biological properties of …
The Effect Of Span Length On Ultimate Moment In Rectangular Plain And Reinforced Concrete Beams, Abolgasem Kazemi
The Effect Of Span Length On Ultimate Moment In Rectangular Plain And Reinforced Concrete Beams, Abolgasem Kazemi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the overall project was to observe the effect of span length on ultimate moment of concrete beams due to flexure. The general field of structural analysis has made significant advance in recent years due to the combined influence of computer technology, the common use of higher mathematics, and the acceptance of the ultimate moment theory. Since ultimate design has been in great demand, extensive testing and research has been conducted concerning the properties of beams such as I beams, wood beams, plain concrete beams, and reinforced concrete beams. The present equations to predict the ultimate moment of …
The Design Of An Apparatus For Investigating Turbulent Mixing Of Two Parallel Air Streams And An Analysis Of The Half-Jet Phenomenon, Roger Alden Iverson
The Design Of An Apparatus For Investigating Turbulent Mixing Of Two Parallel Air Streams And An Analysis Of The Half-Jet Phenomenon, Roger Alden Iverson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Turbulent fluctuations to some degree are always present in air flow. These turbulent fluctuations are encountered in the wakes of objects in flight such as aircraft, airfoils, missiles and moving automobiles. To begin with, manty people use the word turbulence in a very general manner, to describe either a very simple unsteady motion or a very complicated vortex motion. Turbulence may be classified as either isotropic or non-isotropic. One of the best experimental techniques for studying turbulent flow involves the use of the hot-wire anemometer. Another device used for turbulence studies is the Mach Zhender interferometer. This device uses light …
Problems In The Freeze-Drying Of Foods, Minakshi Desai
Problems In The Freeze-Drying Of Foods, Minakshi Desai
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Natural drying of edible seeds and fruits with the aid of the sun and wind is one of the oldest methods of preserving food and was practiced even by the people of the Stone Age. Drying means the removal of water, whereas dehydration means the application of special techniques for the removal of water with minimum damage to appearance, flavor, texture, and nutritive value. Among various methods of dehydration, freeze-drying most satisfactorily fulfills the requirements of minimum damage. Freeze-drying, also known as lypohilization, was introduced as a method of treating glands for pharmaceutical purposes. Being a slow and expensive process, …
Soil Particle Size By Time-Weight Accumulation Of Sedimentation, Yasin E. Ahmad
Soil Particle Size By Time-Weight Accumulation Of Sedimentation, Yasin E. Ahmad
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The principal reason for measuring particle size distribution is for the utilization of the relationships that exist between particle size and soil performance characteristics. The most interesting property of finely divided substance is the tremendous surface-to-weight ratio which they possess. The surface-to-weight ratio varies inversely with the square of the particle diameter. Thus, properties of particles which depend upon the amount of exposed surface are generally influenced by the size of the particles. Also, grain size distribution is very useful in the field of soils engineering. Particles size are measured by several methods and every method is not suitable for …

Evaporation Reduction Investigation Pactola Reservoir, South Dakota 1962-1963 /By Jon Francis Bartholic., John Francis Bartholic
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Reservoir evaporation reduction with monomolecular film was investigated during the summers of 1962 and 1963 at Pactola Reservoir, South Dakota. This study was conducted cooperatively by the United States Bureau of reclamation and the Agronomy Department of South Dakota State College. In this study, a material composed of hexadecanol and octadecanol was applied as a molten spray in 1962 and a powder form in 1963. The molten spray was dispensed from fixed and mobile dispensing units with the mobile unit being superior. The powder was also spread from a mobile unit. The average monolayer coverage during a 13-day period using …
A Study Of The Basic Strength Components Of Asphaltic Concrete, Jalal Sarsam
A Study Of The Basic Strength Components Of Asphaltic Concrete, Jalal Sarsam
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Generally speaking, pavements may be divided into two broad classifications, i.e. rigid and flexible. The term rigid pavement is applied only to wearing surfaces constructed of Portland Cement Concrete. The term flexible is used to denote the tendency of all layers to conform to the same shape under traffic. The basic concept in the design of flexible pavement is that a load applied to the surface is distributed over successively larger areas, as it is transmitted through each lower layer or course, until it has become so diminished in its intensity as to be less than the strength of the …
Rate Of Advance And Infiltration On Furrow Irrigated Blencoe Soils In Southeastern South Dakota, Richard C. Pedersen
Rate Of Advance And Infiltration On Furrow Irrigated Blencoe Soils In Southeastern South Dakota, Richard C. Pedersen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The irrigation of the earth has been practiced since the earliest history of man. Historically, civilization has followed the development of irrigation. The antiquity of irrigation is well documented throughout the written history of mankind. The bible talks of irrigation in the book of Genesis where the laws of Hammurabi indicates to the people that they had to depend on irrigation for existence. Irrigation canals supposed to have been built before 2000 B.C. are still delivering water in the valleys of the Nile. The success of early kings in China was measured by their wisdom and progress in water-control activities. …

Homeostatic Relationships Of Single- And Double-Crosses Of Corn, Rodney Orlyn Hexem
Homeostatic Relationships Of Single- And Double-Crosses Of Corn, Rodney Orlyn Hexem
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The inherent homeostatic properties of single- and double- cross corn hybrids were studied by growing the plant materials in six locations over three years. Measurements of plant height and ear weight were recorded and used to calculate means and variances. Variances were pooled over locations and years and confidence intervals for the variance estimates were computed by use of the chi-square method. A lower variance for an entry, when compared with other entries grown in the same environment, was considered to be the result of relatively better homeostatic properties. Comparisons of entries were made by the use of confidence intervals …
The Effect Of Wave Formation On Open Channel Flow In A Triangular Closed Conduit, Yung Kuan Lo
The Effect Of Wave Formation On Open Channel Flow In A Triangular Closed Conduit, Yung Kuan Lo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the fields of Civil, Hydraulic, and Agricultural Engineering, it is common for water to be delivered by means of open or closed conduits. Analysis of the flow within these conduits is decided into two categories, open-channel flow and pipe flow. Lembke observed the transition from part-flow to full-flow in steep circular drains; he noted five flow regimes for this transition. Flow Regime v of Lembke’s research was different from the others in that there was no stationary hydraulic jump concerned, but slug flow occurred in the conduit with a free outlet condition. Since slugs are surface waves, the activities …
