Drought Resistance Of Ponderosa Pine And Eastern Redcedar On Central South Dakota Soils, Gerald L. Jensen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Afforestation of the Missouri River hills along the Great Lakes of South Dakota's reservoirs is a varied problem. Most of the flood plain vegetation, of which Eastern cottonwood, Populus deltoides Bartr is the dominant, has been flooded by the impoundments. The new, shores are mostly grasses of which the potential natural vegetation according to Kuchler (1964) would be in the Agropyron-Stipa association. Hardwood forest, mostly the Ulmus Fraxinus type, exists along tributaries of the Missouri. There are scattered stands of Eastern red cedar, Juniperus virginiana L., on the north facing slopes of the hills. There are several pockets of shrub …

Analysis Of Two Granular Pesticide Applicators For Experimental Plots, Gerald Albert Stangl
Analysis Of Two Granular Pesticide Applicators For Experimental Plots, Gerald Albert Stangl
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Pesticides are applied to agricultural crops to maximize returns on the investment by the farmer. Granular pesticides are replacing liquid sprays in many applications. Granules are composed of a sorptive, inert carrier material impregnated with a toxicant which is released when the granules contact water. Application of pesticides by granular carrier has numerous advantages over liquid application: 1. Ease of handling and of application as no mixing or addition of water is necessary in the field. 2. Less drift because of particle weight, and thus reduced operator exposure to toxic chemicals. 3. Less total weight applied (10 to 20% of …

Optimum Concrete Design With Random Variable Selection, Ima F. Goldman
Optimum Concrete Design With Random Variable Selection, Ima F. Goldman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The design of a Civil Engineering structure has been considered an art based upon science; for though the Strength of Materials formulae give the general solution for the problem, the fact that the particular chosen solution be a good one, relies on the ability of the designer. Indeed, intuition, experience, or just luck are necessary to pick out conveniently the elements that need to be chosen in the formulae. Thus, a confrontation with a design problem requires an answer to the question: What is the optimal (or fairly close to the optimal) solution that can be obtained for the given …
Feasibility Of Vacuum Dewatering Of Combined Water Softening And Wastewater Sludges, Michael Gene Sisk
Feasibility Of Vacuum Dewatering Of Combined Water Softening And Wastewater Sludges, Michael Gene Sisk
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There is an extensive amount of published literature regarding the principles of dewatering by vacuum filtration. However, the review of the literature indicated that very little work has been done regarding the vacuum filtration of combined lime sludge and sewage sludge. The Komline-Sanderson Company, manufacturers of the coil media vacuum filter, relate that several municipalities throughout the country have attempted to dewater combined sludges, but obtained unfavorable results. This appeared to result from incorrect proportioning of the two sludges and possibly the procedures used in conditioning the sludges prior to and after combining. Contrary to this, two cities in Nebraska, …
