Speech Training And Speech Activities In Institutions Of Higher Education In Taiwan, Chang Yuh-Sheng Jan 1971

Speech Training And Speech Activities In Institutions Of Higher Education In Taiwan, Chang Yuh-Sheng

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An M.A. thesis in speech on the status of speech training in Taiwan, China, is proposed. From personal experience, this author has discovered some difficulties which Chinese students meet when they take up speech in American universities. The chief reason for this might be that the Chinese students who study speech in American universities and colleges have a somewhat limited knowledge of the speech areas and an. inadequate background of speech training. Since speech courses are elective in most of the universities in Taiwan, the students' interest in participating in speech activities, such as speech contest and ·dramatic performance, has …

Buckling Loads For Partially Embedded Piles, David Allen Wahlstrom Jan 1971

Buckling Loads For Partially Embedded Piles, David Allen Wahlstrom

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Piles are common structural elements used to transmit loads through weak or compressible surface soils to lower, more suitable soil strata. They are relatively small diameter shafts that are forced into the ground. Typical examples of pile utilization can be found at nearly any site where a major structure is being constructed. Many waterfront structures are built on partially embedded piles. In this case, the pile transfers the load of the structure to the lower soil strata and also serves as a column for the portion of the structure above the mud line. Many bridges and buildings are also supported …

Finite-Difference Solution For Flow Over A Rough Porous Plate With Mass Transfer, Hwai-Way Wen Jan 1971

Finite-Difference Solution For Flow Over A Rough Porous Plate With Mass Transfer, Hwai-Way Wen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The study of flow over a plate with surface blowing or suction has become very important during recent years due to the increased interest in modifying the temperature or flow characteristics of the boundary layer. Many investigators have studied laminar and turbulent boundary layer flows over smooth surfaces; however, in practical applications, especially under high free stream velocity, the surface cannot be considered hydraulically smooth, and the fluid in turbulent rather than laminar. In this study, the numerical solution for turbulent flow over a rough porous plate with variable surface mass transfer is presented.

Movements And Habitat Use By Hen Pheasants During Brood Rearing, Lynn E. Hanson Jan 1971

Movements And Habitat Use By Hen Pheasants During Brood Rearing, Lynn E. Hanson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Land-use patterns characteristic of prime pheasant range in the Great Plains and prairie region have 50-75 percent of the land under cultivation according to Kimball et. al. (1956). Farmland is pheasant habitat, and the production of pheasants is therefore greatly influenced by farming practices. Considerable research has been done on rates of pheasant production, nest success, and cover preferences for nesting. However, little information has been obtained on movements and cover preferences for brood rearing. Most studies of the type of cover utilized by pheasant broods have been based on roadside and random field observations. Kozicky and Hendrickson (1951) carried …

An Investigation Of The Effects Of Instantaneous Jockeying In Queues By Simulation, B. Radindranath Jan 1971

An Investigation Of The Effects Of Instantaneous Jockeying In Queues By Simulation, B. Radindranath

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In today's world, waiting lines formed by people, machines and other types of units are commonplace. Queues form whenever the current demand for a service exceeds the current capacity to provide that service. In many cases, the interarrival times or service times are not constants, but involve distributions from which the values occur randomly.

A waiting line causes concern when there is an economic value associated with it. A waiting line may have a negative monetary value if units leave without service, or if units have costs as they wait. Idle service facilities may also have a negative monetary value …

An Evaluation Of An Aerated Lagoon System Treating Combined Dairy And Domestic Wastes During Summer Operation, Douglas M. Skie

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Water Quality Act of 1965 and the adoption of the subsequent state water quality standards emphasized the general public's concern for the control of water pollution; for it has become the goal of our nation to maintain all American waters in a suitable condition for domestic and industrial supply, for recreation and for other beneficial uses. It is for these reasons that many communities have been faced with the problem of constructing new sewage treatment facilities or expanding present operations. The use of stabilization ponds as a means of providing sewage treatment has been the practice of many small …

Sinusoidal Ecl Gate Oscillators, Richard W. Sawrey Jan 1971

Sinusoidal Ecl Gate Oscillators, Richard W. Sawrey

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The frequency range of solid state oscillators has increased to the point where classical low frequency design and analysis techniques are no longer completely adequate. Development of very high frequency emitter coupled logic (ECL) gates has provided a new active device that may be used in high frequency oscillators. In light of these facts the objective of this study is to develop an analysis of high frequency ECL gate oscillators. This analysis will be based on the s-parameters of the gate and those of the feedback network. The relationship between the s-parameter description of an oscillator and negative resistance oscillators …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The prime purpose of this thesis project is to investigate and to implement Kohr's method. Kohr's method of identification was selected for study mainly because of the easy accessibility of the analog computer, in addition to the other advantages mentioned above. In this thesis the method of Kohr is shown to apply to the identification of single-valued nonlinearities. However, it is also shown in the work to follow that the method does not apply, in general, to double-valued nonlinearities. Further, an extension of this method is developed herein which enables the determination of system order. A number of examples illustrating …
