The Effect Of Fertilizer Applications On The Quality And The Quantity Of The Oil In Flaxseed, Clarence O. Stockland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A considerable number of economic seeds are characterized by the presence of oil instead of starch as reserved material. The flax plant produces an oil-bearing seed which yields either by pressure or by extraction an oil which is used chiefly in the manufacture of paints and varnishes, and in the manufacture of linoleum, oil cloth, printer's ink, and patent leather. The oil obtained from flexseed is known as linseed oil and is one of a class of fatty oils known as drying oil. When exposed to the air the oil absorbs oxygen, forming a compound known ad linoxyn which constitutes …

Yalobusha County was created by an act of the Mississippi State Legislature on December 23, 1833, from territory ceded to the United States Government by the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians. The county was a perfect square containing twenty-five townships or nine hundred square miles.
The early towns were Hendersonville, Grenada, Preston, Coffeeville, Troy, Sardinia, Graysport and Oakland. These places had their beginning between 1830 and 1838. Coffeeville oits origin to the fact that it was chosen as the county seat; Grenada, Troy and Graysport, on the river, were used as shipping sites; Hendersonville, Sardinia, Oakland and Preston were inland towns …

In 1930 Mr. Emil Madsen of this laboratory began some experimental work upon the roots of dandelions, for the purpose of determining the means by which a dandelion root, which has been cut off below the surface of the ground, regenerates new shoots. He found that such roots form adventitious buds in exposed pericycle and secondary phloem. Several such buds may be formed in a single root. They grow and appear above the ground as leafy shoot.

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1933, presents a biographical and historical study of Isaiah Thornton Montgomery (1847–1924), the founder of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the most prominent all-Black town in the United States. Drawing on memoirs, newspaper accounts, and the Journal of Negro History, the study traces Montgomery's origins as the son of Benjamin T. Montgomery, an educated slave on the Davis plantation in Mississippi, through his founding of Mound Bayou in 1887 on a 30,000-acre land grant secured from the Louisville, New Orleans, and Texas Railway. The …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1932, examines the relative importance of heredity and environment in shaping human development across the life course. Drawing on educational psychology literature by Starch, Thorndike, Averial, James, Horne, and Dom Thomas Verner Moore, the thesis surveys competing theoretical positions on whether inherited traits or external conditions constitute the greater force in determining individual character, intelligence, and social behavior. The central argument of the thesis holds that heredity and environment are mutually dependent and cannot be meaningfully separated: instincts provide the …
