Ferrocene is an orange solid with a camphor-like odor and is soluble in almost all organic solvents. It is known for its remarkable stability, as it is unaffected by air, water, and strong bases. Ferrocene derivatives also have great potential as anticancer and antimalarial agents, but their practical insolubility in water can limit their utility as a pharmaceutical active ingredient. Niger is one of the countries with the lowest exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) rates in the world. The purpose of this study was to determine the barriers to EBF in Niger and to determine the types of feedings that are most commonly practiced in Niger. Participants (n=31) were mothers with children aged 0 to 24 months, recruited on-site at a healthcare facility in Niamey, the capital of Niger. They completed a 20-item questionnaire on socio-demographics, breastfeeding support and knowledge, a short food security survey, and a 24-hour diet recall. This dissertation examines southern lesbian feminist print culture of the 1970s-2000s, which produced some of the most intersectional work to come out of second-wave feminism— especially in terms of creative and critical challenges to anti-Blackness, classism, metrocentrism, and regional exceptionalism. A central contribution of “Sealed with a Kiss on Your Artery” is its reimagination of archival reading practices from a queer-feminist literary studies perspective. As one of popular dietary supplements, the health benefits of Arthrospira platensis (commonly known as spirulina) have been broadly reported. Immulina is a commercially available extract of Arthrospira platensis that is enriched with bacterial lipoproteins and acts as a Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) agonist. However, the immunostimulatory effect of Immulina in vivo has not been well understood. In this work, we explored the nanoformulation of Immulina to improve the dissolution rate in aqueous media. Vitamins and minerals play an important role in many functions within the body and contribute to maintenance of health and well-being of all individuals, including athletes. An athlete’s performance could be negatively impacted if micronutrient recommendations are not met consistently. The purpose of this study was to analyze the dietary micronutrient consumption of NCAA Division I Collegiate Track and Field athletes. Dental age estimation is a common method used to determine the age of juvenile individuals in forensics, medicine, and bio-archaeology. This thesis examines how accurate three dental development methods are in estimating the ages of two Native American sample groups. Incidences of bacterial and fungal keratitis in developing countries are far more compared to developed nations due to socioeconomic and environmental factors. Many regions of these developing countries might have limited resources to identify the causative agent in time, and accurately, before choosing appropriate treatment. Fenofibrate (FNB) is a lipid-lowering medication used to treat hyperlipidemia that is practically insoluble in Water, leading to reduced absorption gastrointestinal tract. Complexation and lyophilization are performed and studied to enhance the solubility of the FNB in gastric fluid and increase its dissolution rate. The present study was intended to enhance the dissolution rate of Fenofibrate using complexation with hydroxy propyl β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD). Value-added chemicals can be generated by the functionalization of hydrocarbon substrates by C-H bond oxidation and by the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2), where each of these processes require long-lived catalysts that are selective and efficient. Chemical feedstocks such as petroleum-derived hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide are inexpensive and readily accessible but are challenging to transform into more valuable compounds. The oxidative functionalization of unactivated C-H bonds is a difficult task because they are, in general, thermodynamically stable and kinetically inert. Gold nanomolecules are atomically monodisperse nano-particles having a precise number of gold atoms and thiolate ligands. The 1–3 nm size range exhibit size-dependent molecule-like properties and have gained broad interest due to their applications in imaging, catalytic activity, biosensing, and drug delivery. The capping ligand governs the physio-chemical properties of an AuNM. Based on the C-S bonding, there are three groups of thiols. Cigarette smoking is the most common cause of premature death, killing half of its users. During pregnancy, smoking continues to be the leading cause of premature death for both mothers and newborns. Research has consistently demonstrated smoking is not randomly distributed across populations; it is, instead, socially patterned. Women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, those experiencing mental health issues, and rural area residents are disproportionately affected. The life course framework emphasizes the impact of exposures in early life on shaping health inequities. Eliminating health inequities, including risky behaviors such as smoking, requires an understanding of the pathways that generate these inequities. …

Terminal implant administration in beef steers often leads to decreased feed intake, leading to less growth. Our objective was to identify diet and management changes that can mitigate this decrease in feed intake. Single-sourced Angus x Simmental steers (n=27, initial BW= 385.1 ± 30.8 kg) were utilized in a completely randomized trial to assess the effects of animal movement and increased forage inclusion on rumination and feed intake after re-implanting. Drinking water disinfection is essential to protecting public health from waterborne diseases. However, the reaction of disinfectants with natural organic matter (NOM) can form carcinogenic disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Drinking water treatment facilities employ precursor control and alternative disinfectants to minimize regulated DBPs formation to comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a form of analytical chemistry where adsorption is a key factor in which the purpose is to separate, identify and quantify each component in a mixture. It is the optimal separation technique of chemical and biological compounds that are non-volatile including proteins and natural products (i.e., plant extracts). A simulation platform is developed for quantifying the change in productivity of an economy under passive and active emission control mechanisms. The program uses object-oriented programming to code a collection of objects resembling typical stakeholders in an economy. These objects include firms, markets, transportation hubs, and boids which are distributed over a 2D surface. Fish require a variety of resources including prey, thermal refugia, and different physical habitat characteristics to grow and reproduce. All necessary resources are rarely provided by a single habitat, resulting in tradeoffs between occupying different habitats; therefore, the ability to move among heterogenous habitats is critical. These tradeoffs may occur in lakes with connected wetlands where the main lake habitats tend to be more thermally stable, but wetlands often provide more diverse and abundant prey.
