Arsenic (As) atomic number 33, atomic weight 74.91, is usually classed as a nonmetal or metalloid, although in the pure state it forms a steel grey metallic crystal and is referred to as metallic arsenic. Only one stable isotope is known at the present time, in spite of its fractional atomic weight. However, the number of allotropic forms and their properties seem to be undecided among many authors (1).“Arsenic” was known in the pre-Christian era, but as such was not the pure element. Instead it consisted of the sulfides of arsenic: realgar (As4S4) and orpiment (As2S3). These sulfides were encountered …

Methionine was discovered in 1922 by Mueller (33) and was first known as Mueller’s acid. In 1928 Barger and Coyne (6) found that it was a methylated sulfur compound known as alpha-amino-gamma-methyl thio-butryic acid and later gave it the present shorter name of methionine. Rose and his associates (34) have shown that it is the essential sulfur amino acid and not cysteine as was formerly thought. Methionine plays an important role in the growth of plants and animals: first, as a methylating agent; second, as an amino acid essential for the building of tissue proteins; third, as a source of …

The less talented pupils are being eliminated from the schools and caused to meet adult problems without adequate preparation due to the unflexible definition entertained of what constitutes an education. Efforts to achieve a high level of scholarship have been causing schools to be more selective than they should according to the spirit of the public school laws. The problem of encouraging pupils to remain in high school until graduation is of major importance not only to the schools but the community as well. It has been said that the public schools, and especially the secondary schools, have continued to be highly selective institutions. Adjustments within the school have not, in many cases, kept pace with changing school enrollments. The selection for certain inherited characteristics war practiced approximately 2000 years before the Christian Era. Jacob (Genesis 30:28-43) was given all the speckled cattle in his master’s herd for being herdsman. In a few years, by selecting for the spotting factor, only speckled cattle remained in the herd. Selection was the first tool for segregating definite characteristics. As a means of more rapid improvement artificial insemination was practiced by an Arabian chieftain as early as 1322 A. D. (35). Many conflicting reports have been given in the literature concerning the effect of various factors on the rate of reversal of figure and ground in reversible perspective. Flugel (7, 8) suggested that changes in eye movement increased the number of reversals. He thought that fixation on one part of the figure could lead to S’s interpretation of this part as being "nearer” the observer and that changes in perspective were induced by changing the fixation point. Donahue (5) found that there was a rhythm in the reversals but the shift in the fixation point was not in rhythm with the …
