Telemetered Cardiac Responses And Energy Expenditures Of Two Women Engaging In Intercollegiate Basketball, Sandra Ann Bode
Telemetered Cardiac Responses And Energy Expenditures Of Two Women Engaging In Intercollegiate Basketball, Sandra Ann Bode
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The role of women participating in athletics is becoming accepted as being a part of the educational process of the feminine sex. For many years such participation has been restricted due to customs, prejudices, and the lack of objective information as to what really happens physiologically to women while taking part in activity of varying stages of strenuousness. Is physical activity physiologically harmful to young women? Can a young woman withstand exercising at high heart rate levels for extended periods of time? The recent upsurge of women's basketball on the secondary and higher education levels behooves interested physical educators and …

The present-day athletes who engage in cross country and distance running must dedicate themselves to running many miles in training to prepare for a season of competition. Distance running coaches employ various training methods for their athletes, knowing they need to increase cardiovascular endurance in order for performance improvement to take place. Food habits of yellow perch, bluegill, and black crappie were studied during 1970 and 1971 in Abbey Pond, South Dakota. Aquatic insects, zooplankton, mollusks, and fish were the most frequently consumed food items by the three species. Yellow perch led primarily on aquatic insects, zooplankton, and mollusks. Aquatic insects were dominant (by volume) in 40.0 and 61.5 percent of the samples respectively for the two years. Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The ecologies of chewing lice (Insecta:Mallophaga) which parasitize sharp-tailed grouse, Pedioecetes phasianellus, were studied in southwestern South Dakota from 1964 to 1967. Five hundred twenty-eight hens, cocks and chicks were collected and examined for louse damage. Louse populations were monitored each month from December, 1964, to September, 1967. Five louse species which infested grouse in the study area were Goniodes nebraskensis Carriker, Amyrsidea megalosoma Overgaard, Lagopoecus perplexus Kellogg and Chapman, Goniocotes chrysocephalus and Lipeurus maculosis Clay. Goniodes nebraskensis fed on feather parts and skin debris and was found to have seasonally fluctuating populations. Cocks carried peak populations of 250 lice/host …

Carlyle's Literature Of Heroism And Its Contemporary Model--Mao, Kang-I Eleanor Chang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Today when millions of Chinese people are shouting, "Long Live Chairman Mao” and waving their red books with flaming, uncontrollable enthusiasm, one wonders whether the worship is genuine, and whether this is the kind of worship which Carlyle means. However, the main emphasis of this thesis is on Carlyle's concept of heroism. Carlyle was greatly obsessed with the heroic ideal. After he was disappointed with the lack of modern heroes in America, he longed for a heroic nation to admire. Thus Carlyle, after a long pilgrimage became the good friend of Germany and the worshiper of German great men. He …

A Comparison Of A Model College Advancement Program With The Public Relations Effort At South Dakota State University, John W. Whalen
A Comparison Of A Model College Advancement Program With The Public Relations Effort At South Dakota State University, John W. Whalen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper is concerned with the management--planning, implementing and evaluating--of programs and activities designed to advance the understanding and support of colleges. College efforts at wooing publics and winning their support have too often been limited to publicity. Since colleges opened their doors, they have had public relations problems and have made efforts to court various publics--even if that effort was a single conversation each year by the president. The news bureau was called on as a panacea for public relations needs. Even then the public relations of the institution could be thought of as "the sum of all the …
