A Comparison Of Two Smoking Reduction Treatments Under Conditions Designed To Be Interfering Or Not Interfering With The Smoking Habit., Gary Clive Salk 1944-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Thirty smokers were solicited from the Wichita, Kansas community via the newspaper and broadcast media for a stop-smoking project. The volunteers were assigned to one of two treatments: double smoking or a modification of Von Dedenroth's (1964) treatment. Each of these treatments was further divided into two groups. These groups were designed to provide high and low interference with the smoker's habit. No effect was observed for interference and it was observed that the experimental conditions probably did not permit the possibility of more than a small interference effect in either group. However, a significant effect for time and time …

Selected Flexibility Exercises And Baseball Hitting Proficiency, Kenneth Bernard Krogman
Selected Flexibility Exercises And Baseball Hitting Proficiency, Kenneth Bernard Krogman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There appears to be an increasing interest among baseball coaches n the development of a flexibility program to improve hitting consistency. Through an analysis of the form used for hitting a baseball, fisher revealed that a full powered swing is dependent of the range of motion in the body’s joints and that a subsequent amount of force is lost when flexion in the hips is decreased. The identification of selected flexibility exercises related to the success of hitting and implementation into training programs would be of significant value to coaches and players alike. The purpose of this study was to …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Most of us have, during the last few years, heard reference to OSHA—the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Yet few of us have received any information as to its implication to the educational system, and more specifically to the industrial educator. Niel Head of the National Federation of Independent Businesses said: “They’ve drawn up the regulations so it would take a Philadelphia lawyer to figure them out.” I do not profess to be a Philadelphia lawyer; however, the purpose of this paper is (1) to clarify the scope of Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, (2) …

Criteria For Determining Feasibility Of Rural Water Supply Systems In Livestock Production Areas, Lynn L. Peterson
Criteria For Determining Feasibility Of Rural Water Supply Systems In Livestock Production Areas, Lynn L. Peterson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Feasibility guidelines for proposed and existing community rural water supply systems have been developed around such parameters as population density, size of group, and ability to repay. However, these guidelines were based on more densely populate areas where water is used primarily for domestic purposes. These guidelines do not necessarily fit situations where population density is low and water availability enters in as a factor of livestock production. It is apparent that guidelines need to be developed for such situations. With this intention, the objectives of this study were established as follows: 1. Determine what criteria are pertinent to the …
The Relationship Of Freestyle Sprinting Ability In Swimming To Selected Measurable Traits, Keith Charles Sutton
The Relationship Of Freestyle Sprinting Ability In Swimming To Selected Measurable Traits, Keith Charles Sutton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Through reading previous studies, corresponding and talking with respected swimming coaches, and drawing from personal experience, the present writer identified and tested physical traits thought to influence a swimmer’s speed. Although muscular strength of the arms and good flexibility have long been accepted by most coaches as an asset to the speed swimmer, the other variable were selected on the basis of their anticipated relationship to swimming speed. The purpose of this study was to investigate, by means of objective tests, the relationship of selected physical characteristics to performance by swimmers in a forty-five yard freestyle sprint.
Encephalitis Epidemiology In South Dakota : The Development And Use Of An Encephalitis Simulation Model And A Computerized Human Serum Bank To Determine Western And St. Louis Encephalitis Activity, Curtis Dean Wilson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The investigation reported here represents an attempt to relate a virus vector simulation model with field observations made in South Dakota over the past years. The viruses that will be examined are two encephalitis viruses, western equine encephalitis (WEE) and St. Louis encephalitis (SLE). Since the encephalitis viruses are grouped within the arboviruses, viruses transmitted by an arthropod vector, any epidemiological study of the human and horse encephalitis outbreak process must include a study of the vector, in this case mosquitoes, and the factors affecting that vector. It is this complex relationship of virus, vector and hosts that led those …

Relationships Of Scores Achieved On A Crawl Stroke Rating Form And Selected Measures Of Stroke Efficiency In Swimming, Bradley Laverne Erickson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The continuous surpassing of records is an indication that performances in competitive swimming are steadily improving. Success in competition depends upon a swimmer’s ability to “maintain a high velocity over time.” Factors which determine the ability to maintain high velocity include muscle endurance, efficiency, and total capacity for energy expenditure. Though various training methods, the swim coach has been able to increase physiological change in his athletes, including muscular endurance. A valid measure for determining energy expenditure is through analysis of data obtained by testing for oxygen consumption. There is also a linear relationship between oxygen consumption and heart rate. …
