Validation Of The Defining Characteristics Of Disturbance In Self-Esteem In Patients With Anorexia Nervosa, June C. Peterson Larson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A low self-esteem is a critical, pervasive problem in the lives of clients with eating disorders. The purpose of this study was to validate the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis, Disturbance in Self-Esteem, in a specific population group. The purposive, nonprobability sample consisted of 26 females between the ages of 13 and 24 who had a medical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa. This study addressed the following question: Does the cluster of defining characteristics for Disturbance in Self-Esteem, as defined by NANDA, occur in clients diagnosed as having Anorexia Nervosa; clients in whom a disturbed self-esteem is manifest.
The Tennessee …

Ozonation Of A Municipal Groundwater Supply And Water Purification Plant Treatment Process Modifications To Prevent Trihalomethane Formation, Warren William Kersten

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota obtains its water supply from the Big Sioux aquifer which is located below and adjacent to the Big Sioux River. An extensive well field consisting of 34 wells has been developed to the north of the city. In addition to the well field, two surface water supply intakes in the Big Sioux River diversion channel are available for use during peak demand times of the year. Because the raw water generally has iron concentrations in the range of 3.0 to 6.0 milligrams per liter (mg/1) and manganese concentrations in the range of 2.0 …

Suitability Of Water From A Gravel Pit Pond In East Brookings As A Public Water Supply, Timothy Dean Stefanich Jan 1987

Suitability Of Water From A Gravel Pit Pond In East Brookings As A Public Water Supply, Timothy Dean Stefanich

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The national concern for the safety of America’s drinking water supply was renewed in 1974 by the passage of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The concern for water supply source protection had also begun especially in rapidly developing areas. Because of these limitations, source protection is regarded as a major step in protecting a present or future water supply from contamination. Thus, the knowledge of both ground and surface water movement near a present or future source of water and the potential of its contamination is very important. A large groundwater source, known as the Big Sioux Aquifer, exists in …

A Comparative Study Of Traditional Nursing Schedules Vs. Extended Nursing Schedules On Patient Satisfaction, Cheryl J. Erler Jan 1987

A Comparative Study Of Traditional Nursing Schedules Vs. Extended Nursing Schedules On Patient Satisfaction, Cheryl J. Erler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study compared patient satisfaction with nursing care given by nurses working traditional eight-hour shifts versus the satisfaction of patients being cared for by nurses working twelve-hour shifts.
The conceptual framework was derived from Systems Theory incorporating the interrelated subsystems within the organization that contribute to patient satisfaction as identified by Johnson, Kast, and Rosenzweig (1973).
The Patient Satisfaction Instrument designed by Risser(1975) and adapted by Hinshaw and Atwood (1979) for in-patient use was utilized for data collection. One medical-surgical unit in a Veterans Administration Hospital constituted the experimental group where patients were surveyed before and after the staffing change. …

Growth And Proteolytic Activity Of Selected Psychrotrophic Bacteria In Whole Milk And Whole Milk Retentate, Ravinder Reddy

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the last twenty years a number of membrane separation processes have evolved from laboratory scale, through pilot plant investigation, to full scale production units. One such process, ultrafiltration, has been found particularly useful in the dairy industry. Ultrafiltration uses porous polymeric membranes to separate molecules, principally on the basis of their molecular weight. In milk, fat, protein and associated substances are retained on the membrane. Permeate, which passes through the membrane contains mainly water, lactose and other low molecular weight substances. There is interest in ultrafiltration of milk because of it is potential importance in saving costs to both …

An Administrative Perspective Of The Job Training Partnership Act In Selected Counties In Tennessee, Ellis H. Winkler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem of this study was to determine if, in selected counties in Tennessee, differences in the noncompletion rate, the positive termination rate, and the job retention rate existed in categories of participants in the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). This study followed the ex-post-facto design. A personal data form was developed for the purpose of gathering data relative to the personal characteristics of participants enrolled in the JTPA on-the-job training program between July 1, 1984 and June 30, 1985. The findings reflect data gathered on all 1,005 participants in the program. The chi-square test was applied to all 27 …

The Extent Of Drug Use Among High School Seniors In Tennessee, April 1985, Gary P. Martin

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to obtain information relative to the extent of drug use by high school seniors in Tennessee. Patterns of drug use were obtained by using a questionnaire/opinionnaire developed by Bachman, Johnston, and O'Malley of the Institute for Social Research, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The review of literature focused on patterns of drug use by seniors throughout the nation using the same questionnaire/opinionnaire. The results of the national survey were compared with the findings in Tennessee. The questionnaire was administered to a stratified random sample of 450 seniors in 15 randomly selected high schools in West, Middle, …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Analyses of a variety of climatic variables generated from 80 years (1901-80) of daily precipitation and temperature data collected by the National Weather Service showed that Nacogdoches is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with an average annual precipitation and temperature of 45.96 inches and 65.5°F, respectively. The summer is warm and dry with mean maximum temperature of 91.6°F while winter is mild with mean minimum temperature of 38°F. There were no statistical differences between mean annual temperature and precipitation on the 1951-80 and 1901-80 periods or between any 2 normal periods. Rain days occurred once in every 4 days …
