Ritual Patterns In Shakespeare's Comedies, Margaret M. Eno Jan 1973

Ritual Patterns In Shakespeare's Comedies, Margaret M. Eno

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A student of literature becomes aware of an organizing design which unites all satiric, tragic, comic and romantic drama into one total picture. These four types of drama with their distinct moods dovetail into a total tale in much the same way that the four seasons create the overall picture of the year's story. The moods of the four seasons of the year show a close correspondence to the major literary moods. An archetypal study of Comedy is especially rewarding because one may identify within the comic structure aspects of the other types of drama. Included in Comedy are the …

Computer Simulation Of Unsteady Flow In An Alluvial Channel By The Method Of Characteristics, Dennis Lynn Richards Jan 1971

Computer Simulation Of Unsteady Flow In An Alluvial Channel By The Method Of Characteristics, Dennis Lynn Richards

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A number of dams have been constructed along alluvial rivers. These dams create reservoirs which serve to collect and store water, usually in large quantity, for use in supplying municipal needs, for supplying power and driving machinery, for furnishing irrigation, and for retaining the flow in time of floods. The characteristics of flow and the sediment-transport capacity of the channel change after these dams have been constructed. One of the major problems then confronting the hydraulic engineer is the rate of reservoir sedimentation and the change in river configuration. A problem of concern is the rapidity of reservoir sedimentation and …

Speech Training And Speech Activities In Institutions Of Higher Education In Taiwan, Chang Yuh-Sheng Jan 1971

Speech Training And Speech Activities In Institutions Of Higher Education In Taiwan, Chang Yuh-Sheng

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An M.A. thesis in speech on the status of speech training in Taiwan, China, is proposed. From personal experience, this author has discovered some difficulties which Chinese students meet when they take up speech in American universities. The chief reason for this might be that the Chinese students who study speech in American universities and colleges have a somewhat limited knowledge of the speech areas and an. inadequate background of speech training. Since speech courses are elective in most of the universities in Taiwan, the students' interest in participating in speech activities, such as speech contest and ·dramatic performance, has …

Interpretive Potential Of South Dakota Wetlands, Douglas C. Harr

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study was initiated to devise a method for selecting prairie wetlands on which nature interpretation areas could be established. An evaluation form was designed to systematically identify areas of good potential and 64 prairie wetlands were evaluated. Twenty-two percent of the evaluated marshes were found to rank “excellent”: the method of evaluation was determined successful. A survey was initiated to determine visitor preferences for interpretive methods and facilities at an existing wildlife-interpretive trail. Seventy-nine percent of the visitors indicated preference for a self-guiding interpretive trail. Maps and pictures used in conjunction with self-guiding signs were deemed important. Ninety-one percent …

Fred Hayden Carruth : Author And Journalist, 1862-1932, Barbara S. Hartinger

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study was undertaken to compile information about Fred Hayden Carruth during the period of his life-time, 1862-1932, his activity as author and journalist forming the guidelines. Carruth's success as a western humorist and local journalist on two Dakota Territory weeklies, the Estelline Bell and the Dakota Bell, was probably the factor which helped him obtain a position as a humorous editorial witer with the New York Tribune, foremost paper in the country in 1888. He went on his own in 1892 and after free-lancing his way onto the pages of more than nineteen popular periodicals, Carruth began a thirty-four …

An Experiment On The Effects Of Humidity On Screen-Process Stencils, Thomas R. Bresadola Jan 1970

An Experiment On The Effects Of Humidity On Screen-Process Stencils, Thomas R. Bresadola

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Quality control is management, it is a way of thinking. To function properly, it cannot be isolated in one section of the plant, but rather it must permeate the entire climate of the plant. Management is control through decision making. Decision making requires accurate and complete information, if errors are to be avoided. The quality of the information on which decisions are based determines the quality of the decisions themselves. Quality may be defined by stating what is acceptable, and what is not acceptable. Quality used in this sense varies greatly from plant to plant. The company printing slogans on …

The Origin And Development Of Sunday Competition Between The Hartford Courant And The Hartford Times, James M. Neal Jr. Jan 1970

The Origin And Development Of Sunday Competition Between The Hartford Courant And The Hartford Times, James M. Neal Jr.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Despite the fact that the Times was an afternoon paper and the Courant a morning paper, the two were more alike than they were different throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Each newspaper was increasingly influenced by persons not native to New England, but both retained executives with New England roots. They were closely balanced in manpower, they competed vigorously for the same kinds of news, and (after September, 1968) they presented similar Sunday packages. Carl Lindstrom's charge that newspapers were increasingly dominated by the business offices could hardly be applied fairly to either newspaper in Hartford by 1970. The publishers …

The Status Of Journalism In North Dakota High Schools, Neil Rae Mcfadgen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

With the mass media exerting a tremendous influence on our day-to- day living, scholastic journalism with its emphasis on mass communication becomes a vital part of any high school curriculum. Career literature written about opportunities in journalism strives to motivate the high school student to consider professional journalism as his life' s work. Even though the percentage of high school students who have been active in journalism functions and then elect professional journalism as a career has been small in the past, there has been a decided increase in the college journalism enrollments since the year 1951. According to the …
