Enhancement Of Foliar Penetration And Herbicide Activity By Oils, James F. Peacock
Enhancement Of Foliar Penetration And Herbicide Activity By Oils, James F. Peacock
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To learn more about oils and how they affect post-emergence spray applications of herbicides, two major problem areas were investigated. The first dealt with specific physical and chemical properties of oils as they are associated with phytotoxicity and enhancement of herbicidal activity, while the second dealt with foliar penetration as a possible mechanism of enhancement. Simple correlation and multiple regression analyses were conducted for specific properties of mineral oils applied to green foxtail (Setaria verdis (L.) Beauv.) and grain sorghum (Sorghwn bicolor (L.) Moench. 'Northrup King 133') as 5% oil in water emulsions with and without 2.24 kg/ha of atrazine …

Flannery O'Connor And The Development Of The Grotesque In American Literature, Joan Rae Griffin
Flannery O'Connor And The Development Of The Grotesque In American Literature, Joan Rae Griffin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
When man's view of himself as a being in his universe changes with the tide of events, literary conventions change as well. There is very little in contemporary life that would contradict the assumption that man's view of himself and of his world is no longer governed by the assurance of reason or the confidence of prediction. When certainty of man's place in the universe was commonly accepted, for instance in the eighteenth-century, this assurance was reflected in a literature which was essentially rational and ordered. In the last two centuries, drastic upheavals in the course of human events have …
An Evaluation Of Speech Education Offered In The High Schools Of The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod During The 1968-1969 School Year, Mary L. Heins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There are few vocations that utilize speaking skills as frequently as those of the teacher and the minister. Because of his belief in the importance of -his message, Professor Frederick Manthey, instructor at Martin Luther Academy, said, "A Christian - will do his utmost to further the message of the Gospel in order that this saving message may not be hindered." As a result it would seem appropriate that young men and young women preparing for. the preaching, teaching, or lay ministry or the church would certainly have need for speech training. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to …

The American Negro In Selected Writings Of Robert Penn Warren, H. Lynette Olson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis has been to examine the various images of the Negro which Warren reveals in his writings and to analyze Warren's own attitude toward the Negro as expressed in those writings. Upon examining all ;of Warren's writings having to do with the Negro, one is left with three main pictures: first, the Negro as seen by the Southern white, second, the Negro as seen by the Northern white, and third, the Negro as seen by Warren himself. These pictures all contribute to reveal Warren's own attitude toward the Negro. Warren leads one to believe that the …
An Investigation Of Eye-Movements When X-Height And Line Length Are Held Constant And Alphabet Length Is Prismatically Varied, Harold D. Perry
An Investigation Of Eye-Movements When X-Height And Line Length Are Held Constant And Alphabet Length Is Prismatically Varied, Harold D. Perry
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The growing percentage· of type set by the "cold type" process combined with the growth of lithographic printing has increased the use of filmed typefaces. Machines now exist that can greatly reduce or enlarge a filmed typeface from its original size. A prism attachment on a process camera allows type to be altered in one dimension while holding the other constant. The effects on readability of such alterations are of importance to the printer. In a master's degree thesis study, Joseph W. Truex used a prism camera to simultaneously and direct! vary line length and alphabet length. He found no …

A History Of Speech Education At Watertown Senior High School, Watertown, South Dakota, Richard James Reddy
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A historical thesis on the development of speech education at Watertown Senior High School, Watertown, South Dakota, is proposed. The specific purpose is to present, in an orderly fashion, a chronology of the development of curricular and cocurricular speech education from the opening of Watertown Senior High School in 1879 through the 1968-1969 academic school year. A study of the past is often valuable as a guide to the future. Historians from the field of speech recognized this fact when, in 1941, they authorized the compilation of A History of Speech Education in America. Chapters 20 and 21 of that …

The Effect Of Harvesting And Storage Methods On Chemical Composition And In Vitro Digestibility Of First Cutting Alfalfa Hay, Perry A. Fales
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The importance of alfalfa hay in dairy cattle feeding is generally acknowledged. The reasons why alfalfa is used so extensively in dairy cattle rations are due to its high protein content, high acceptability by cattle, its wide ·area of adaptation, and high yields. A popular way of handling the forage is to put it up as hay. South Dakota produced 3,261,000 tons of alfalfa hay in 1968. There were 73 million tons of alfalfa hay produced in the United States during 1968 (10) making it a crop of major importance. Farming practices have changed considerably the last ten years. Among …

The Effect Of Group Counseling On The Self Concept, Richard Noel Manley
The Effect Of Group Counseling On The Self Concept, Richard Noel Manley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research is to provide some basic understanding of the value of group counseling as it affects the self concept of individual participants. In many theoretical constructs of humanistic psychology there are numerous references emphasizing that the most important goal for group counseling is individual members’ attainment of a better understanding of themselves. A corollary to this assumption is that by understanding themselves, group members will be able to deal with their own frustrations and conflicts in a more meaningful way. The theoretical construct produced by this philosophical concept of self has been extensive, but the evaluation …

The Identification Of Changing Sex Roles Within A Family Unit As Perceived By First Graders, Janelle Fridley Jones
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Family life education includes the total education for living in families. The main emphasis of all home economics or homemaking education is life as it is lived within the home and family. Some aspects of home economics are usually included in the curriculum at all age levels from early childhood through secondary education. Family life in America has changed over the years. Such factors as family mobility, a greater amount of leisure time, an increase in early marriages, and more mothers employed outside the home indicate the need for education in family living. Moreover, currently fewer youngsters learn about homemaking …
