A Comparison Of The Achievement Records Of A United States History Class Taught By Socialized Methods And A United States History Class Taught By The Lecture-Question Method, Kenneth S. Hauge

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The basic problem confronting all teachers is how to help each student develop himself to full capacity, mentally and socially. Lack of student interest is often an important factor in the consideration of poor school records. This lack of interest is especially apparent in such courses as government and history. Various educators have suggested improved methods of instruction as one answer to this problem. Proponents of socialized recitation claim that the emphasis must be taken from the teacher and placed on the pupils. They believe that attitudes developed through study and classroom procedures are more important than the acquisition of …

Listeria Monocytogenes, Alvin G. Fiscus Jan 1957

Listeria Monocytogenes, Alvin G. Fiscus

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Organisms of the genus Listeria have stimulated a great deal of interest as a result of their pathogenicity and affinity for the central nervous system. The clinical condition produced by this organism is known as listeriosis, or in ruminants as “circling disease”. The organism was described by Murray, Webb and Swann in 1926 as the causative agent of an eqizootic infection in laboratory rabbits and guinea pigs. Their observations showed that the disease produced emaciation, abundant exudate in serous cavities, necrotic foci in and on various organs, and a marked increase in monocytes circulating in the blood stream. The name …

Obstacles To Increased Production Of Meat-Type Hogs : A Report Of Surveys Of Swine Producers And Marketing Agencies, Edward Dailey

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The improvement of product quality is an end constantly sought by those who produce goods for sale in competition. This is especially true for farmers whose varied products compete with one another and with industrial goods in the case of fiber. Dairy farmers, wool growers, wheat farmers, livestock men, truck farmers and others have all sought to improve the quality of their products as a means of both increasing the market and maintaining their respective share of the existing market. One of the most concentrated and extensive efforts in quality improvement has been by the swine industry. Practically all groups, …

Why South Dakota And Minnesota Vocational Agriculture Instructors Have Remained In The Profession, Roger A. Heller Jan 1957

Why South Dakota And Minnesota Vocational Agriculture Instructors Have Remained In The Profession, Roger A. Heller

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It is quite obvious that any person who remains in a certain occupation or profession for some length of time does so for one or more specific reasons. Teachers seemingly then, must have some reason for their tenure in their profession. There have been many studies in the past few years, giving reasons why teachers leave the field. The Research Bulletin for Education in South Dakota indicates that of the 7345 teachers in our public and parochial schools in 1952-53, a total of 1912 did not return to South Dakota classrooms for the 1953-54 school year. This is a matter …

An Investigation As To The Comparative Cost Of Fuels For Heating Homes In The City Of Brookings, South Dakota, Robert P. Puncochar Jan 1957

An Investigation As To The Comparative Cost Of Fuels For Heating Homes In The City Of Brookings, South Dakota, Robert P. Puncochar

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The object or intent of this investigation was to make a study of comparative costs of heating homes in the city of Brookings. Six different fuels or methods of firing of these fuels were compared in the two main categories of home heating; hot water radiators and warm air furnaces. The investigation was not intended to increase the efficiency of any specific installation. However, the efficiencies of several of the atomizing oil burners wore increased considerably by changes in the air settings which should have been made by the installer when the furnace was originally installed.
