Social-Structural Effects On The Adoption Of The Snowmobile As A Recreational Innovation, Sandra H. Ramynke
Social-Structural Effects On The Adoption Of The Snowmobile As A Recreational Innovation, Sandra H. Ramynke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Social structural factors and individual characteristics related to innovativeness were studied in a random sample of 402 South Dakota owners of registered snowmobiles. Data collection employed a mailed questionnaire. The objectives of the study were to determine: (1) Which, if any, sociopsychological and sociodemographic individual characteristics explain variations in innovativeness with regard to purchasing of snowmobiles; (2) Whether community norm as a structural effect contributes to the explanation of variations in snowmobiler innovativeness when individual characteristics of adoptors are partialed out or controlled; and, (3) Whether the general contours of the adoption-diffusion model may be extended to the area of …

The Influence Of Corn Removal Date On Corn Rootworm Oviposition, Resultant Larval Populations And Damage, Michael F. Holm
The Influence Of Corn Removal Date On Corn Rootworm Oviposition, Resultant Larval Populations And Damage, Michael F. Holm
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this research was to determine the effect of corn removal for silage on rootworm oviposition and on the resulting populations and damage the following years. If the corn is removed before oviposition occurs, and if the beetles go elsewhere to lay their eggs, damage to the corn roots the following spring should be prevented. This would save farmers insecticide costs the following year. To determine how adult populations present in the corn field in late summer and fall affect damage to the corn the following spring, corn vegetation was removed on different dates encompassing the time oviposition …
Nutritional And Cultural Aspects Of Fifth Grade Dietaries, Janice R. Jensen
Nutritional And Cultural Aspects Of Fifth Grade Dietaries, Janice R. Jensen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Sixty Brookings, South Dakota students in three schools participated in a group interview, week-long nutrition study designed to determine the pattern and quantity of their dietary intakes. The nutritional adequacies of the diets were determined. Comparisons were made between the student’s dietaries in the different schools and days of the week, family incomes, and levels of mother’s education. Special attention was given to lunch patterns and consumption of vitamins A and C. Using the recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) as a standard for comparison, less than 25 percent of the students were below the standard for protein, riboflavin, calcium and vitamin …
Correlates Of Leadership Attractedness Among Instrumental And Expressive Voluntary Service Organizations In Fall River And Meade Counties Of South Dakota, William Wakefield
Correlates Of Leadership Attractedness Among Instrumental And Expressive Voluntary Service Organizations In Fall River And Meade Counties Of South Dakota, William Wakefield
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A study of the voluntary service organizations in Fall River and Meade counties of South Dakota was conducted during 1975 to determine: 1. The various voluntary associations in Fall River and Meade counties and their functions. 2. The leaders of the various voluntary associations in these two counties, their socioeconomic characteristics, and their attractedness to these organizations. 3. Whether those leaders who are characterized as either instrumental or expressive members have joined voluntary associations because of the association's perceived instrumental or expressive orientation, or because of some other not so apparent reasons. The respective leader of the voluntary associations is …
An Ecological Analysis Of Migration Patterns In North Dakota And South Dakota, Hadley Gerald Klug
An Ecological Analysis Of Migration Patterns In North Dakota And South Dakota, Hadley Gerald Klug
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An analysis of socioeconomically defined ecological areas through the replication of the patterned factorial design developed by Loeb! at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The major emphases of the study were to: (1) delineate homogeneous, although not necessarily contiguous, social areas using the patterned factorial design; (2) determine the capability of the previously delineated social areas to account for significant amounts of variation in residually measured net migration; (3) compare the procedures and results of the present study with those of Loebl's work. The study region consists of the states of North Dakota and South Dakota. The units of analysis are …
Cloning Of Lilium Longiflorum And Andropogon Gerardii By Tissue Culture Of Leaf And Floral Parts, Nancy E. Stenberg
Cloning Of Lilium Longiflorum And Andropogon Gerardii By Tissue Culture Of Leaf And Floral Parts, Nancy E. Stenberg
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Easter lily, L. longiflorum Thunb. Is known not only for its ornamental value, but also for its large chromosomes, making it ideal cytological material. Big bluestem, Andropogon gerardii Vitman, is a South Dakota native grass. It possesses many desirable characteristics and unique adaptations to this region. This research has primarily dealt with the development of methods for cloning the species L. longiflorum and A. gerardii by tissue culture of leaf and/or floral parts. The pattern of plantlet differentiation from the cultures was also histologically studied.
Purine-Thiamine Anabolism During Cellular Morphogenesis In Myxococcus Xanthus, Wen-Cherng Tsai
Purine-Thiamine Anabolism During Cellular Morphogenesis In Myxococcus Xanthus, Wen-Cherng Tsai
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Purine-thiamine anabolism during cellular morphogenesis in Myxococcus xanthus was investigated. One of the approaches was to test vegetative and myxospore (2.5 h and 8 h) extracts of M. xanthus CW-2 for their ability to synthesize the second de novo intermediate, 5'-phosphoribosylglycinamide, from beginning precursors either by way of phosphoribosyl-pyrophosphate amidotransferase (EC 2.4.2.14) or ribose-5-phosphate aminotransferase. Results indicate the presence of both the amido- and aminotransferases in both types of extracts, and both enzymes appear to be present at about the same level (per milligram of protein) in vegetative cells, myxospores (2.5 h and 8 h), and in a bacterial prototype, …
Utilization Of Fly Ash In The Removal Of Orthophosphate From Water Samples, Marla Rae Behm
Utilization Of Fly Ash In The Removal Of Orthophosphate From Water Samples, Marla Rae Behm
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The ability of different fly ash samples to remove orthophosphate from standard phosphate solutions and from wastewater samples is reported. The results of studies to determine the temperature, the amount of fly ash, and the time necessary for maximum orthophosphate removal are included. The mode of action, whether by absorption onto the fly ash or by a precipitation reaction with one or more of the soluble components from the fly ash, is also investigated. The chemical compounds present in the fly ash, as determined by x-ray diffraction, are also included.

A Survey Of Why Students Select South Dakota State University Based On The Opinions, Information Sources, And Attitudes Of Entering Students, Vincent O. Heer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to examine the information sources, attitudes, and opinions, relevant to the selection process, of the 1975-76 entering students at South Dakota State University to discover what reasons students give for selecting SDSU. It is the hope that this study will reveal important information about the students of South Dakota State University, their attitudes, opinions, and sources of information concerning why they attend. This information is sought so those officials in decision making positions can have a better informational base from which to make important judgements affecting the institution and its component parts. Specifically the …
