Ultrasonic Evaluation Of Swine, Lowell M. Anderson Jan 1968

Ultrasonic Evaluation Of Swine, Lowell M. Anderson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Current meat consumption patterns and competition from other meats and meat substitutes present a challenge to today’s pork producer to produce a higher quality product with a larger lean to fat ratio. One avenue or approach toward meeting the challenge could be through selection of superior breeding animals. Thus the major challenge at the producer level is that of accurately determining the meatiest individuals for replacements. Historically man has relied upon the visual appraisal, however, few of the live animal. Therefore, the majority must depend upon selection aids. Actual carcass cut-out data can be obtained, but this results in the …

An Analysis Of Stephen Leacock's Treatment Of The Detective Story, Beverly Lamb

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

On any list of Canadian writers, Stephen Leacock's name would have to appear at the top because of his achievements in humor. He has won for himself a unique place in the Canadian scene as economist, historian, critic, essayist, lecturer, and teacher, but above all, as a writer and speaker who is the incarnation of humor. Born in the south of England, at Swanmoor in Hampshire on December 30, 1869, he moved, in 1876, with his family to Canada. For some time he had a tutor for his schooling but when his father left the family, Stephen was sent to …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The duration and intensity of action of many drugs are largely determined by the speed at which they are metabolized in the body by enzymes in liver microsomes (1). Previous studies have shown that the activities of drug metabolizing enzymes in liver microsomes are markedly increased when animals are given various drugs, hormones, insecticides, and carcinogens. This increase in activity appears to represent an increased concentration of enzyme protein and is referred to as enzyme induction. Induction of liver microsomal enzymes leads to an accelerated biotransformation of drugs in vivo. This results in an· altered duration and intensity of drug …

The Effects Of Moldy Alfalfa Hay Feeding On Rumen Activity, Rumen Protozoa And Dairy Steer Performance, And Analysis Of Toxic Substance(S) Associated With Molding, Guru Prasad Mohanty

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of feeding moldy alfalfa hay to dairy steers on their growth rate , rumen fermentative activities, rumen protozoa counts and rumen volatile fatty acid production. Good quality and molded alfalfa hays prepared from the same fields were chemically analyzed. Molded hay was lower in dry matter, ether extract, nitrogen-free-extract and higher in crude fiber, ash and pH values than good alfalfa hay. A higher percentage of total protein of moldy hay appeared as ammoniacal nitrogen. Two dairy steer-feeding experiments were conducted. The first experiment involving two groups of five steers …
