The article notes the appointment of Lucile Ing Pennel as deputy county clerk of Tipton County, Tennessee. She was the only woman to hold such a position in Tennessee as a result of the lobbying of Charles P. Simonton, the county clerk. Lucile was the daughter of Simonton's predecessor and she and Simonton married in 1913.

Broadside titled “Patterson to McKellar: The Challenge, Reply and Rejoinder, Liquor and Law Defiance vs. Prohibition and Law Enforcement”. Former Governor M.R. Patterson was running against U.S. Congressman Kenneth McKellar for one of Tennessee's U.S. Senate seats in 1915 and challenged McKellar to a debate on the temperance issue. Patterson charged that McKellar was anti-temperance.
