Face Image Normalization For Authentication Under Diverse Lighting Conditions, N/A
Face Image Normalization For Authentication Under Diverse Lighting Conditions, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
Authentication based on face recognition can fail under poor lighting or exposure conditions. This disclosure describes techniques to improve the brightness and/or contrast of a given facial image such that face recognition based authentication can be performed robustly over a wide range of lighting or exposure conditions. Brightness is improved using gamma correction, where the optimal gamma value is given by a low-complexity, closed-form formula. Contrast is improved by subjecting pixel intensities to a mapping that results in better color saturation, or a larger standard deviation of pixel intensities. The techniques work on near infra-red (NIR) as well as visible-spectrum …

Providing Warnings For Fake Incoming Calls, Victor Carbune, Matthew Sharifi
Providing Warnings For Fake Incoming Calls, Victor Carbune, Matthew Sharifi
Defensive Publications Series
Phishing attempts using artificially synthesized audio (“deep fakes”) are increasingly used to deceive users that receive voice calls via telephone networks or calling apps. Voice cloning technology can be used to conduct a fake phone call in which the caller audio is faked to imitate someone else’s identity.
The techniques described in this disclosure analyze an incoming call and assist a user in the verification of caller identity. Fake voice calls are detected automatically and alerts are provided to the user. The detection is based on user-permitted information such as caller phone number, profile information, voice profiles of callers, and …
Virtual/Configurable Oled-Based 2d And 3d Grid Pattern To Visually Enhance Incoming User Pen Or Touch Data, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Customers using an indirect tablet today use a physical grid printed pattern to get a grasp on their
physical pen input location relative to the screen location. With the OLED screen, we are not only
virtualizing that dot pattern grid using software overlay methods but also allows the user to customize
their look and feel. Using grid colors and subtle animation to let the user visualize their pen/touch
information: hover state can now show their pen size on the grid pattern; When the user applies
pressure using their finger or pen, the grid can indicate using colors to show different …

This invention discloses a new structure and approach to detect and compensate OLED nonuniformity
issue, including image sticking. On the TFT backplane, there are driving TFT and sensing
TFT. During OLED light on, while most light goes to top direction to the user, a small amount of light
goes to sensing TFT and be detected. There by comparing the level of the response of each sensing
TFT, system is able to know the luminous difference of each pixel. And then, adjust the appropriate
driving voltage to make the luminous closer. This will minimize the image sticking.

Ultra Slim Border Lcd Panel, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Customer wants to increase screen to body ratio to enjoy user experience, because LCM border has
its limitation, if we try to narrow down panel border, some issues like light leakage or peeling will be
happened. Normally we can use 2D cover glass to reduce border but will increase thickness. This
invention discloses a new design that use LCD top glass edge shape from rectangle to curve. When
light incidence in glass, light will be bending to active area. So, we can magnify active area and
reduce border to achieve increasing screen to ratio target.

Additionally, a USB cable connector is provided that includes magnets that protrude on the end to …
Automatic Camera Switching For Multi-Camera Video Conferencing Setups, Wassim Gharbi
Automatic Camera Switching For Multi-Camera Video Conferencing Setups, Wassim Gharbi
Defensive Publications Series
When a user participates in a video conference while using a multi-monitor setup, the user’s video feed often shows the user looking away from the camera when the user views a monitor that is in a different direction than the camera, even when such a monitor includes another camera. This disclosure utilizes computer vision techniques, such as face detection and head pose estimation, to automatically switch between multiple available cameras based on detecting the one that the user is looking toward. Such automatic switching ensures that the user’s video feed in the video conference shows the user looking towards the …

Combined Approach For Building A Domain-Specific Natural Language Semantic Parser, Michael Laor, Tal Maoz, Aviva Vaknin
Defensive Publications Series
Proposed herein is a combined approach for building a domain-specific natural language semantic parser. The disclosed technique uniquely combines several known approaches with a new, original rule-based approach to obtain accurate mappings of utterances in a given domain into a single, pre-defined, domain-specific data structure that can be used for further processing. An implementation of the semantic parser has been built for the networking domain, including the QoS, filter (ACL) and set-path sub-domains, and has been integrated with a dashboard-managed L3 firewall for end-to-end implementation of filtering commands.

Refining Shopping Search Queries And Results Based On Inferred Product Purchases, Matthew Sharifi, Victor Carbune
Refining Shopping Search Queries And Results Based On Inferred Product Purchases, Matthew Sharifi, Victor Carbune
Defensive Publications Series
Knowing a user’s purchase history can be helpful in refining, rewriting, or correcting a shopping related search query the user enters since users often purchase products that are related to or same as products bought previously. However, the text input in searches for products is often short, ambiguous, or underspecified. Even in cases where a user includes relevant detail in a query, manual formulation of the search terms, often from memory, can result in errors. Current shopping search mechanisms do not help detect and refine underspecified or erroneous queries. This disclosure describes techniques to improve keyword-based product search by appropriate …
Determining Viewport Area In User Interfaces With Occluding Elements, Anonymous
Determining Viewport Area In User Interfaces With Occluding Elements, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes techniques for the determination of occluded and unoccluded spaces within a user interface. Per techniques of this disclosure, a viewport of a user interface is represented as a set of rectangles determined by recursive subdivision. The area of the viewport is based on a sum of the areas of each unoccluded rectangle in the set of rectangles. The efficient representation of the viewport with a small number of rectangles enables frequent recalculation of the viewport, e.g., even when the viewport is updated frequently in response to user actions such as scrolling.

Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are described herein for caller acoustic properties extraction by sampling an initial duration of the connected Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) caller stream and analyzing a received transcript of the ongoing live stream. A Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML) mapping of the caller acoustic information is generated in the most suitable customer-understandable format. These techniques may provide automated identification and enable Push To Answer when the caller is not able to understand what is being communicated by the agent.
Ambient Light Independent Depth Acquisition Using Switchable Ir Filter, Ping Tong Chu, Chung Chun Wan
Ambient Light Independent Depth Acquisition Using Switchable Ir Filter, Ping Tong Chu, Chung Chun Wan
Defensive Publications Series
Devices such as smartphones, tablets, etc. are equipped with cameras that have depth-sensing capabilities. The quality of depth acquisition in such devices is often limited by the cost, available physical space for depth-sensing hardware, and by the ambient light conditions in which an image is captured. This disclosure describes a depth-sensing camera system that utilizes a switchable infrared filter. In an IR-cut mode, used when ambient light is of sufficient quality, the filter allows visible light to pass through and cuts off IR. In an IR-pass mode, used in low light conditions, the filter allows IR to pass through while …
