Unoccluded Gestures Input Using A Secondary Touch Screen, D Shin, Anupam Pathak
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes systems and techniques for a computing device that includes multiple touch screens that enables a user to cause the computing device to update the graphical user interface (GUI) being outputted by a first touch screen of the computing device by providing gesture input at a second touch screen of the computing device. For example, a mobile computing device, such as a foldable smartphone, may include two touch screens that can be folded up to 360 degrees so that the two touch screens face away from each other in a back-to-back position. When such a mobile computing device …
Deposition Of Black Material On Metal Traces Surrounding Display Screen Blind-Holes To Increase Camera Performance And Improve Aesthetic Appearance, Sangmoo Choi
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes techniques and apparatuses for increasing camera performance and improving the aesthetic appearance of electronic device display screens with front facing cameras that utilize display screen blind-holes. The techniques include depositing a black material on metal signal traces (metal traces) located in an inactive area of the display screen. The black material is positioned to increase the viewable area of the front-facing camera, reduce the size of the inactive area (e.g., a display screen blind spot), hide reflective metal traces present on a layer of the display panel, and reduce the occurrence of the lightguide effect on image …

Camera-Driven Beamforming For Better Audio Capture, Chris Igo
Camera-Driven Beamforming For Better Audio Capture, Chris Igo
Defensive Publications Series
Background noise picked up by microphones can be mitigated using audio beamforming. However, if a user loses alignment with the beam, the user’s speech can be severely attenuated or lost in the noise. This disclosure utilizes a camera, with user permission, to obtain coordinate information for a user that is providing audio input, e.g., in a voice/video call, during an audio recording, etc. The information is utilized to dynamically adjust the direction of the beam of an audio beamformer such that a user’s speech, e.g., as received by the beamformer is consistent regardless of the current position or movement of …

Method Of Usb Key Reading To Soft Lock Monitor And Peripherals When Not In Use, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Today monitors in a shared space such as an e‐café can be easily hijacked when a user does something as simple as
getting up to go to the bathroom. There is little that a user could do today to protect their gaming station since they are
using an unowned computing system. However, their account logins can be vulnerable when not in use. Our method
would allow the user to lock the display and all peripheral devices connected to the display by using a USB key that can
be read by the display’s USB hub.

Per research, workers commute an average over 38 minutes each way between home and work—a trip that
can feel like a dreadful chore before the workday even begins. In fact, long commutes lower job satisfaction
and increase employee turnover.
By using the travel time as an opportunity to get into the work mindset, employees are giving themselves a
chance to make an easier mental shift from their home role to their work role, and ultimately, this makes
people feel happier about their jobs.
This invention is to make your commute manageable with more efficient to turn on/off the notebook

Enhanced Video And Web Conferencing Security For Dual Account Endpoints, Kevin Collins, Steve Connolly, Denis Mchugh, Alan Mccann
Defensive Publications Series
Dual account video and web conferencing endpoints have both a personal user account and a shared room account that are registered on the same device. When such an endpoint joins a meeting (e.g., after completing a pairing process) it raises a number of security, etc. challenges. To address these types of challenges, various solutions are presented herein through several techniques. In particular, the techniques may include support for devices utilizing proximity in a reverse fashion (i.e., personal mode endpoints may use ultrasound pairing to detect that the personal user is in proximity to a device and allow them to perform …

Avoiding Security Attacks In Proximity Reporting And Contact Tracing Using Ble Analytics In An Internet-Of-Things Framework, Akram Sheriff, Shankar Ramanathan, Hazim Dahir, Nagendra Kumar Nainar, Darryl Sladden
Defensive Publications Series
In connection with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, contact tracing mobile applications (e.g., that leverage Wi-Fi and Bluetooth™ Low Energy (BLE)) are being deployed. Many of those applications are susceptible to different security attacks. To address those types of challenges, techniques are presented herein that provide a multi-tiered mechanism for an optimized genuine client neighbor filtering technique that, among other things, may detect, score, and filter fake BLE advertisement attacks to improve the efficacy of the overall contact tracing application ecosystem and reduce airtime utilization from fake advertisements in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) frequency bands. For example, a man-in-the-middle …
Skip Buffers For Optimized 3d Rendering, Eric Cosky
Skip Buffers For Optimized 3d Rendering, Eric Cosky
Defensive Publications Series
Complex models in 3D graphics (such as architecture or game characters) are often composed of a single, large mesh of triangles that is processed by the graphics module as a single object. When objects are not fully visible, they are often split into multiple components to reduce the work required to render them. Breaking down the model and working with the components (instead of the whole) can, in some situations, reduce performance.
This disclosure describes techniques for optimizing rendering scenarios where only part of a model is visible. A skip buffer (with associated logic) includes hierarchical data that optimizes rendering …

Automatic Correction Of Timestamps On Telemetry Streaming Endpoints, Sari Fernandez Barbosa, Yanid Alejandra Perez Rodriguez, Jie Zhan, Sindhura Ramegowda
Defensive Publications Series
Any telemetry data from a network that indicates an incorrect date and time is not usable for troubleshooting potential network issues. Presented herein are different scenarios for detecting incorrect timestamps and leveraging Internet Protocol (IP) geolocation and swarming techniques to correlate with other devices sending telemetry information in order to autocorrect timestamps. When it is possible to autocorrect timestamps, discrepancies can be resolved for both closed-loop (e.g., bidirectional) communication scenarios and open-loop (e.g., one-way or edge collector) communication scenarios.

Fan With Multiple Blade Material Design, Hp Inc
Fan With Multiple Blade Material Design, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Nowadays, there are several challenges on laptop fan need to overcome from design
perspective, including high flowrate and pressure capability on slim form factor, low
acoustic prominence ratio on high frequency range, and better cost-to-performance
ratio. It’s usually conflictive to achieve high performance while maintain low acoustic
energy concentration on high frequency band. Since traditionally fan is made with single
material, same blade shape and blade-to-blade interval design, energy concentration
on high frequency range is always observed because dense blade number is needed for
performance requirement.
