Assisted On-Boarding Of Iot Devices For Satellite Communications, Robert Barton, Francesco Basile, Michael Freed, Yen Lee
Defensive Publications Series
For an Internet of Things (IoT) device to connect to a network, it must first be on-boarded by the network. However, in some use-cases, such as those involving IoT devices that are on-board through low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, it can be difficult to on-board IoT devices due to various potential communication limitations. Presented herein are automated techniques through which a new IoT device can be assisted in its on-boarding process through a nearby neighbor device that has already been on-boarded. In one instance, techniques presented herein may provide for the automated on-boarding of IoT sensors for communication with a satellite …

Intelligent Redundant Calling Application Overlays For A Unique Device Profile For Enhanced Calling Redundancy, Sharma Venkata Satya Kanchinadham Subramanya
Defensive Publications Series
Calling is a very important, critical, and basic service. Some users may employ a single client application to serve their critical calling needs. However, in the event of a software defect or a crash, such an application may not function properly, thus impacting the critical calling service. Commonly, there is no built-in backup application overlay that may be automatically invoked when an application fails, thus resulting in a loss of service. Techniques are presented herein that strengthen calling application reliability by introducing redundant application overlays using the same user, device, and network profile. Such techniques may catapult calling service provider …

Scrolling And Resizing-Aware Annotation Feature For Communication And Collaboration Platforms, Deepesh Arora, Sreekanth Narayanan, Priya Kesari, Keerthana S
Defensive Publications Series
In communication and collaboration platforms (which may support, among other things, video conferencing, online meetings, screen sharing, webinars, etc.), annotation is a critical feature. That feature is playing a very important role during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) period where, for example, universities and companies are relying heavily upon online meeting experiences to seamlessly deliver classes, sessions, presentations, etc. However, current annotation capabilities are not able to adapt to the dynamic nature of a screen share. To address such a challenge, techniques are presented herein that enhance scrolling within or the resizing of an underlying application. Aspects of the presented …

Obtaining User Consent And Indicating Progress During A Sequence Of Automated Actions, Keun Soo Yim, Adam Coimbra
Defensive Publications Series
Automation of actions within a software application can improve user experience, e.g., by enabling repetitive complex sequences to be performed with no user effort. Such actions can include high-level operations, such as actions to be performed via the user interface (UI) of the app. Automation is typically achieved by requesting that a trusted automation service perform each of the high-level actions, including UI input in non-privileged apps running in user space, in the desired sequence on behalf of the user. This disclosure describes techniques to display appropriate UI indicators and get user consent when needed when a sequence of higher-level …

A Fast And Low-Cost Approach For Heterodyne Rf Testing Of High-Speed Eo Modulators For Manufacturing, Anonymous
A Fast And Low-Cost Approach For Heterodyne Rf Testing Of High-Speed Eo Modulators For Manufacturing, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Standard measurement of RF bandwidth, whether the device under test (DUT) is an optical receiver or an optical transmitter, requires the use of very expensive equipment. A vector network analyzer (VNA) is often used to characterize the frequency response of a DUT in both amplitude and phase from DC to high frequency. In the telecommunication industry, the test frequency upper limit is continually growing, which causes test challenges, both in terms of complexity and test equipment cost. It is proposed to look at testing components up to 110 GHz. Most of the times, from a production standpoint, only the amplitude …

Estimating Prevailing Road Conditions By Analyzing Terrain Images From Satellites, Yan Mayster, Brian Shucker
Defensive Publications Series
The optimal route between destinations at a given time depends on the traffic conditions and speed limits at that time. Detailed and accurate data on traffic conditions and speed limits is sometimes unavailable for a subset of road segments within potential routes. This disclosure describes techniques to determine various parameters about the likely prevailing travel conditions for a given road segment at a given time based on satellite images. The inferred travel conditions can be appropriately factored in when suggesting routing guidance. The satellite images are processed via appropriately trained machine learning models that can detect relevant attributes or physical …

Mechanism To Distinguish Between Sr-Te And Non-Te S-Bfd Return Paths At Sr Head Node, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Segment Routing is an emerging technology in Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, Seamless Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) over these networks is used as Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) mechanisms to provide fast switchovers and thus meet customer Service Level Agreement (SLA). BFD running over Label-switch Paths (LSP’s) can have MPLS/IP encapsulation in forward and backward directions. In case of Seamless BFD (S-BFD) running over Segment Routing-Traffic Engineered (SR-TE) networks, it may happen that BFD switches to a different MPLS/IP path instead of user configured MPLS path thus compromising the guaranteed SLA.
