Method And System For Expanding Alias Directory To Include Search For Wallets, Dmytro Mamzeliev, Wenhai Pan, Frederico Tavarse De Carvalho
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure describes a method and system for expanding a unified alias directory to include wallet searches, facilitating seamless integration of various payment systems. In particular, it teaches that when an alias resolution request is received by the directory network manager, it may process the request and transmit it to the recipient APIs in addition to the remote directories. These recipient APIs may generate credential information response messages, which include payment and wallet account credentials. The directory network manager may collect these responses and send a consolidated alias resolution response back to the originator. This may allow the sender …

Expanding 2d Images Into Immersive 3d Images Using Location Data, Shiblee Hasan, Kathleen Alexandra Bryan
Defensive Publications Series
Current techniques to transform two-dimensional to three-dimensional images can generate passable generic 3D environments based on the visual content of the original 2D image. However, such techniques may fail to accurately capture the unique location of the 2D image. This disclosure describes techniques to leverage location-specific data, e.g., Exif data, of a two-dimensional image to enhance the realism and accuracy of a three-dimensional image generated from the two-dimensional image. With user permission, location data (the latitude and the longitude) at which the image was captured is fed into a visual positioning system (VPS), which identifies the precise location at which …

Embedding Runtime Vulnerability Detection In The Data Plane Of Cloud-Based Containers, Jan Oberst, Dave Bailey
Defensive Publications Series
A vulnerability in packages and libraries included in the underlying cloud container can adversely impact the applications and services running within that container. Current tools to automate discovery and patching of vulnerabilities emphasize detection over proactive automated remediation, operate at cluster-level, and are limited to static analyses. This disclosure describes techniques for automatically detecting and patching vulnerabilities in the software supply chain for applications and services deployed in individual cloud-based containers. Continuous inspection of runtime activity of the containers is performed by embedding security mechanisms directly into the data plane to gain deep visibility. Data obtained from artifact analysis can …

Automated Dynamic Adaptive Storage, Management, And Retrieval Of Time-Series Data, Puneet Mahajan
Defensive Publications Series
While raw time-series data can support various temporal analyses, such analyses are limited by the available data resolution. Storing data at the highest resolution is infeasible with data volumes. Also, computationally expensive data aggregation is necessary to serve query responses. While manual scripts can be used to adjust data resolution, this approach is tedious and not scalable. This disclosure describes techniques that use symbolic links for automatically adjusting the resolutions of time-series data in real-time based on application needs and resource availability and performance. Automatic preemptive adjustment is performed by predicting and optimizing the appropriate data resolution with machine learning …

Combined Collagen And Chitosan Based Devices For Hemostasis And Wound Healing, Kathy Fang
Defensive Publications Series
Collagen and chitosan based devices have been used separately for both hemostasis and wound healing for decades. We investigated developing devices combining both materials that would be useful for hemostasis or wound healing, or both, especially as wound healing is often considered the first phase of wound healing. In-vitro and in-vivo testing of the combined collagen and chitosan derived devices demonstrated the devices had promising hemostatic and wound healing effectiveness compared to the individual materials alone.

Automating Unsupervised Security Guardrail Creation For Large Language Models, Ritvik Shrivastava
Defensive Publications Series
Guardrails are a set of limitations, guidelines, and operational protocols designed to govern the behavior and outputs of Large Language Models (LLMs). Current guardrail creation methods often face limitations such as lack of transparency, overly restrictive rules, and difficulty keeping pace with the evolving threat landscape. Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to techniques for a sophisticated method and system designed to monitor and manage financial transactions in near real-time, specifically addressing anomalies in the transaction lifecycle. The disclosed technique introduces an Automatic Transaction Compensator (ATC) to monitor and manage financial transactions, seamlessly integrating with existing payment platforms. The ATC may autonomously detect and correct anomalies like system errors or timeouts, ensuring transaction integrity. For instance, if a successful transaction triggers an error message to the merchant, the ATC may promptly initiate a reversal to prevent unintended multiple authorizations. This compensating mechanism may operate in real-time or offline, …

Initial Proof Of Concept For The Development And Commercialization Of Ellagic Acid Based Hemostats, Lisa Kemp
Defensive Publications Series
The hemostatic properties of ellagic acid and its derivatives have been known for decades, but there has been little commercialization of hemostatic agents, dressings or gauzes containing the material. We used the material and its derivatives in the preparation of various different hemostatic agents, dressings and gauzes, including combining with other known hemostatic materials, and tested these in-vitro. The use of ellagic acid or its derivatives produced superior hemostasis compared to similar devices produced without the material. These devices are worthy of further investigation and potential commercialization.

Through Rotor Flow Architecture For Bearing Cooling
Through Rotor Flow Architecture For Bearing Cooling
Defensive Publications Series
Two stage centrifugal compressors especially with a single sided wheel architecture face significant thrust loads. The proposed solution uses a relief hole in the impeller combined with a through hole in the shaft that allows gas flow from the first stage to flow through the rotor and cool the rear journal bearing. This flow architecture reduces the thrust loads significantly and improves efficiency by cooling the rotor along with bearings.
Welded Shrouded Wheel With Interlaced Blades
Welded Shrouded Wheel With Interlaced Blades
Defensive Publications Series
Centrifugal compressors often use shrouded impellers for high pressure applications that demand reduced tip clearance losses and higher efficiency. Although manufacturing techniques such as casting, machining, 3D printing have been used to make shrouded impellers, they are not feasible for very small sized impellers. The proposed method uses a two-piece impeller design with a bladed disk and a slotted shroud. The two pieces are then welded with an interlaced joint between blades and slots to form the shrouded impeller.

Display System And Method For Updating Display With Out-Of-Order And Partial Image Updates, Kellie Shaw
Defensive Publications Series
A display system utilizes out-of-order row updates and partial display updates to update frame images. In such display update techniques, the display images aren’t simply updated in blocks. Rather, eye-tracking is utilized to determine which blocks to update and when to update them. In one example, eye-tracking is used to update display blocks as needed based on, for example, a user’s gaze direction. According to this system, not all display blocks would be updated along with every change in pixels dictated by an image feed.

Attributing Low-Level Storage Costs To High-Level Storage Operations In Rpc Call Trees, Antonio Trapanese, Axel Freyn
Defensive Publications Series
Machines within a distributed computing network have a low-level storage system that provides remote procedure call (RPC) access to read/write files to their local disk/flash memory storage. Distributed computing networks support a library that facilitates the extraction of data flows between clients and storage systems. Attributing low-level storage operations to higher-level semantic operations is difficult because, seen from low-level storage, RPC calls are agnostic of high-level storage. This disclosure describes techniques to accurately attribute low-level storage costs to high-level storage operations in RPC call trees by maximizing a Jaccard similarity coefficient between two lists, e.g., a list of ancestor spans …
