Apparatus, System, And Method For Efficiently Driving Backplanes Of Displays With Linear Control, Ajit Ninan Nov 2024

Apparatus, System, And Method For Efficiently Driving Backplanes Of Displays With Linear Control, Ajit Ninan

Defensive Publications Series

Circuitry may control and/or drive the brightness and/or luminance of pixels within displays. For example, an AR head-mounted display (HMD) may include and/or represent circuitry, such as a driver unit, that controls and/or drives the brightness and/or luminance of a perceptual quantizer (PQ) and/or gamma display. In one example, the circuitry may implement 8-bit counters to control the brightness and/or luminance of pixels within the PQ or gamma display. Unfortunately, such 8-bit counters may fail to enable the display to accurately reproduce perceptual brightness and/or luminance consistent with and/or under the Barten sensitivity curve and/or model. In another example, the …

Sensor Fusion For Low Latency Palm Rejection Using Artificial Intelligence, Hadi Zadeh, Fei Wu Nov 2024

Sensor Fusion For Low Latency Palm Rejection Using Artificial Intelligence, Hadi Zadeh, Fei Wu

Defensive Publications Series

On devices with multiple input modalities, it can be difficult to ensure input accuracy, false palm detection, and provide low latency in the user experience of providing input and receiving corresponding response. Latency can come from the operating system application, or firmware catching up with speedy input from the user. In current devices, data from various input sources is used independently which can cause false palm detection and also introduces latency. This disclosure describes a central multi-sensor input hub (sensor hub) that enhances user input experiences on devices that support multiple input devices. The sensor hub can be implemented as …

Early Detection Of Mobile Device Battery Swelling Using Pressure-Sensitive Robot, Hadi Zadeh, Boris Mittelberg Nov 2024

Early Detection Of Mobile Device Battery Swelling Using Pressure-Sensitive Robot, Hadi Zadeh, Boris Mittelberg

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes automated techniques for early detection of swollen batteries in mobile devices using pressure-sensitive touchscreen testing using a pressure-sensitive robot. Subtle physical deformations in a device caused by battery swelling that can lead to critical safety hazards can be detected. The robot performs automated regression testing on devices that include batteries. During testing, the robot continually scans the device surface and reports changes in the surface profile. By changing the Z-height, the robot can be used to detect micrometer-level increases in the device height that can be indicative of one or more batteries of the device being swollen. …

Techniques such as natural language processing, named entity recognition, question answering engines, …

Local Tone Mapping Of Mixed Hdr And Sdr Content That Preserves Sdr Elements, Alec Mouri Nov 2024

Local Tone Mapping Of Mixed Hdr And Sdr Content That Preserves Sdr Elements, Alec Mouri

Defensive Publications Series

In many contexts, users view mixed high and standard dynamic range content (HDR/SDR) on their devices. For example, on HDR-capable smartphones, a user may view an HDR image with SDR user interface (UI) elements overlaid on it. In such contexts, when the user captures a screenshot and stores the result in an SDR image file, tone mapping can result in degradation of the SDR elements on the image. This disclosure describes a local tone mapping approach that can be used to convert HDR-SDR mixed content to SDR, where HDR elements are tonemapped without impacting SDR elements. The approach can be …

Photo Composition Guidance Based On Scene And Subject Analysis, Kshitij Suresh Gaikar, Pushkar Mittal Nov 2024

Photo Composition Guidance Based On Scene And Subject Analysis, Kshitij Suresh Gaikar, Pushkar Mittal

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques to guide a user in the composition of photos captured by a camera device, based on automatic scene analysis and subject framing. A camera device prompts the user to pan the device across a scene surrounding the user to capture a scene photo, e.g., a 360-degree panoramic photo. Additionally, the user captures a subject photo showing an intended subject for a new photo. An artificial intelligence (AI) model is used to analyze the scene photo and the subject photo. The model outputs locations and/or poses for the subject in the scene that makes for an appealing …

Defensive Publications Series

Lattice structures provide a unique opportunity to engineer material properties, even those not yet exists in solid materials. Through programmable designs, which can be realized using advanced manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, customer and design specific material properties can be achieved. We present a method for programming lattice structures by adjusting the positions of nodes along beams (referred to as 'offsets'), while maintaining a fixed lattice topology, incorporating a method to accurately predict the programed lattice structures’ property using machine learning-based algorithms. The flexibility of programming lattice structures by node offsets enables the realization of a broad spectrum of …

Meditation-Movement Exercise To Reduce Aggression, Konrad Hirschbeck Nov 2024

Meditation-Movement Exercise To Reduce Aggression, Konrad Hirschbeck
