This technical disclosure proposes an OPEX proxy that routes client requests to cloud application instances based on the operating expenses (OPEX) of potential host data centers. Unlike traditional routing methods, which are focused on load or network health, this proxy selects data centers with the lowest current or expected OPEX, reducing energy costs without requiring ownership of the power source. The approach supports integration with existing routing mechanisms and can be extended with environmental impact metrics.

Ai-Driven Autonomous Content Generation For Trending Topics, Steven Dropsho, Dhruv Bakshi
Defensive Publications Series
Generative artificial intelligence models are capable of generating content in different modalities such as text, image, audio, video, and combinations. While user-driven content generation, where a user enters a prompt about a topic of interest and receives AI-generated content in response, is popular, this requires users to identify topics and seek content. This disclosure describes techniques for autonomously generating high-engagement content in various modalities. A continuous loop of input (identifying topics of interest), output (content generation based on the topics of interest), and metrics (engagement with the generated content) is used to generate new content that provides users engaging online …

Defensive Publications Series
Proposed herein are innovative techniques that enable a user in an online meeting to naturally, conveniently, and intuitively promote a local laptop to become the primary meeting device in a meeting room. Participants in the same meeting room are grouped together and represented as a single group in the video feed of the online meeting. This approach ensures that participants in the conference room are no longer perceived by remote participants as isolated, individual attendees. Instead, they appear as a group attending from the same physical space, thereby creating a more natural online meeting experience.

Thematic Consolidation Of Multi-Turn Conversational Inputs Into A Single-Turn Prompt, Colby Hawker, Jennifer Otitigbe
Defensive Publications Series
In generative artificial intelligence application development, manually consolidating iterative, multi-turn conversational interactions into a single, static prompt for production use can be a time-consuming and error-prone process. Systems and methods are described that may automate this conversion. The technology can programmatically analyze a conversational history for thematic coherence. Based on the analysis, a consolidation module may apply conditional logic, for instance, by structuring coherent turns into a few-shot prompt or pruning less relevant turns to help isolate a user's intent. The resulting prompt can be scored for quality and optionally optimized by a language model. This process can transform an …

Automated Feature Engineering And Multi-Stage Selection For Time-Series Forecasting, Leonid Kuligin, Thomas Zettl
Defensive Publications Series
The time-series forecasting, for example in supply chain management, can be challenged by high-dimensional and noisy market data, which may lead to model overfitting and the inclusion of spurious correlations. A framework for automated feature engineering and multi-stage selection can help address these challenges. The process can programmatically generate a large set of potential features, such as time-lagged variables, from heterogeneous data sources. A multi-stage selection protocol can then be applied, which may first use correlation-based filtering to prune features, followed by an iterative, model-driven stage that uses backtesting to evaluate and promote features based on their predictive value. This …

Improving Llm Speculative Decoding Drafting Using Multi-Tier Chained Drafter, Jae Hun Ro, Asaf Aharoni, Ananda Theertha Suresh, Michael Butler, Matthew Markwell
Defensive Publications Series
Large language models (LLMs) generate output tokens auto-regressively, which places constraints on the rate of token generation and can lead to underutilized hardware and higher latencies for generating responses. Speculative decoding techniques can be used to guess multiple future tokens or a sequence of candidate tokens to improve hardware utilization and reduce the overall latency. However, when speculative tokens are generated using a drafter model that is a lightweight approximation of a primary LLM, the drafter model can itself become a computational bottleneck, consuming non-trivial time and/or underutilizing hardware. This disclosure describes the use of tiered smaller drafters where one …

Client-Side Logic Forcing Use Of Reliable Voice Codec For Satellite Voice Communications, Dang Tu Nguyen, Sooraj Sasindran, Youngtae Cha, Hwangoo Park, Bodam Nam, Karthick Musuvathi Janakan, Soumyadeep Paul
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes a network-aware codec negotiation technique for satellite voice communications. Devices connected to satellite networks face issues such as high latency and low bandwidth that can cause modern High-Definition (HD) voice codecs to fail. This leads to call dropouts and/or unintelligible audio. The techniques described herein utilize client-side logic on the user equipment (UE) that forces the use of the Adaptive Multi-Rate Narrowband (AMR-NB) codec via the session description protocol (SDP) offer that is sent by the UE when a satellite connection is detected. This ensures a stable and reliable call, with priority given to intelligibility and reliability. …

Time-of-flight (TOF) camera images can be combined with data from other device sensors for enhanced depth perception and mapping capabilities. Effective fusion of data from TOF cameras with data from other types of sensors requires accurate calibration that can mitigate the lower range and resolution of TOF cameras. This disclosure describes techniques to perform efficient targetless recalibration to estimate the extrinsic transformation between a TOF camera and an IMU on a mobile device. The approach involves analyzing individual dTOF frames within a sequence of TOF and IMU data to identify three planar surfaces in the image, e.g., via iterative application …
Robust Metric Aggregation For Foundation Models, Jingtao Wang
Robust Metric Aggregation For Foundation Models, Jingtao Wang
Defensive Publications Series
Evaluating foundation models using a single aggregated metric, such as a weighted sum, presents significant limitations. These methods can mask catastrophic regressions in individual capabilities, establish arbitrary trade-offs between metrics, and fail to distinguish true improvements, where all members of a set have increases ≥0 (Pareto improvements), from changes where some metrics decline. This disclosure details a method for robust metric aggregation. The technique computes a composite score using a more Pareto-sensitive function (harmonic mean, geometric mean, etc.) as a base aggregator, which inherently penalizes low sub-metric values. A trade-off penalty is calculated based on negative deltas from a baseline, …

Extending the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) with functions or tools for environmental interaction has led to the emergence of the agent paradigm. In industry, training an LLM is not always feasible because of the scarcity of domain data, legal holds on proprietary customer data, rapidly changing business requirements, and the need to prototype new assistants. Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents can address such issues by relying on the zero-shot reasoning abilities of the underlying LLM and utilizing tools to explore and reason over customer data and respond to user requests. However, there are two concerns here: (I) acquiring large …
