Voice And Touch Based Input, Michael Cardosa
Voice And Touch Based Input, Michael Cardosa
Defensive Publications Series
A word prediction system predicts a word based on a combination of user touch input and user voice input. The system can receive the touch input via, for example, a keyboard or other input device. In some implementations, the system can receive voice input corresponding to the touch input at substantially the same time as the touch input.

Assisted Browsing Via Dynamic Simulated Gravity For Page Elements, Kathleen Michel, Samuel Beder
Assisted Browsing Via Dynamic Simulated Gravity For Page Elements, Kathleen Michel, Samuel Beder
Defensive Publications Series
A gravity probabilistic system for assisted browsing is disclosed. The system proposes creating a probabilistic model analogous to gravity which attracts and guides the cursor towards clickable UI elements. A notion of mass is used to determine the strength of the attraction, where more important elements have greater mass and attraction. The system determines a relative mass of a UI element on a web page. When the system receives an input related to a cursor movement from a user of the web page, the system moves the cursor according to the relative mass of the UI element.
Early Termination In Partition Search For Encoding, Yunqing Wang
Early Termination In Partition Search For Encoding, Yunqing Wang
Defensive Publications Series
An efficient partition search termination strategy suitable for high-quality encoding is proposed, which largely speeds up the encoder without sacrificing the quality. This is achieved using a partition search system. The partition search system constructs a partition search tree of an NxN encoding unit comprising multiple partition nodes to conduct a partition search. The system evaluates a partition node from the multiple partition nodes of the partition search tree. After a partition node is evaluated, the early termination checking is conducted by the system based on the information gathered during the partition evaluation. If the early termination criteria are met, …

Pipeline To Generate Training Data For Image Recognition, Rahul Garg, Sven Gowal
Pipeline To Generate Training Data For Image Recognition, Rahul Garg, Sven Gowal
Defensive Publications Series
Image recognition programs require large sets of training data to produce accurate results. Human workers may categorize training sets that programs may use as training data to learn how to recognize objects. To increase the efficiency of the workers, it is proposed to break the categorization down into multiple steps in a pipeline. Different groups of workers will provide input at different stages of the pipeline, and the input from one group of workers will be passed to another group of workers. Breaking the categorization down into smaller tasks may increase the efficiency of the workers.

Spatial triggers may be actuated based on a determination that a user is, or will be, at a particular location. Temporal triggers may be actuated at particular …
Two-Step Bucketing To Achieve High Performance Data Structures, Geoffrey Pike, Justin Lebar
Two-Step Bucketing To Achieve High Performance Data Structures, Geoffrey Pike, Justin Lebar
Defensive Publications Series
A variety of techniques and strategies are presented for protecting a data structure, e.g., a hash table, from an attacker who wishes to force worst-case performance. Many data structures are designed with fast and efficient insertion and lookup functionality under normal use-case scenarios. However, when forced into a worst-case context, the performance of the data structure is undermined and services relying on the data structure are impacted. The techniques presented maintain the high performance under normal use-case while protecting the data structure from malicious use.
Incentivizing Publishers To Join A Publisher Network, Patrick Hummel, Christopher Harris
Incentivizing Publishers To Join A Publisher Network, Patrick Hummel, Christopher Harris
Defensive Publications Series
This paper discusses an automated system in which publishers would be able to tell the advertisement platform which features they would value having and how much these features are worth to them. The advertisement platform can decide which features to develop as well as which publishers to invite to join the advertisement platform. The advertisement platform uses the information about how the publishers value certain features to find publishers who value the same features, before the advertisement platform develops the features. The advertisement platform may invite the publishers who value the same features to join the system, and may make …

Secure Traffic Metering With A Router, Swaminathan Krishnamurthy, Nick Arini
Secure Traffic Metering With A Router, Swaminathan Krishnamurthy, Nick Arini
Defensive Publications Series
Current gateway-based metering is not capable of capturing secured traffic because the gateway sits in the middle of the server-client transaction. A current solution uses client-side metering for secured traffic and gateway-based metering for unsecured traffic. This current solution is becoming less practical with the ever-increasing use of encryption for Internet delivered traffic. To overcome the above-noted problems, and other problems, with metering Internet traffic, disclosed herein are systems and methods that enable such secured traffic to be metered at a router or gateway.
