The Person Of Christ In The Epistle To The Phillippians, Henry Hamann
The Person Of Christ In The Epistle To The Phillippians, Henry Hamann
Bachelor of Divinity
Any references to his theology that might come in by the way would, it might be argued with some soundness, be all the more valuable as being unpremeditated, quite natural and unforced, and, accordingly, completely sincere and reliable. As a matter of fact; there are a number of references to Jesus Christ and what Paul thought of Him, among them one of the fullest statements Paul ever made on the subject, Phil. 2:5-11, a passage introduced quite unexpectedly, but at the same time with a certain unmistakable solemnity. These passages are sufficient in number and scope to present all the …
Hebrews- An Exegetical Study, James W. Mayer
Hebrews- An Exegetical Study, James W. Mayer
Bachelor of Divinity
In my sketch of the conception of the Christian High-Priest found in Hebrews. I shall consider in the first part the person of Christ as suited to His High-priesthood, and in the second part Christ as performing the work of a High-priest. I shall stress the special emphasis of Christ as OFFERER and the OFFERING which He Brings. A comparison of the Christian High-priest with the high-priests under the Old Dispensation will not be dealt with in a separate chapter, but will be drawn incidentally as the argument progresses.
An Exegetical-Doctrinal Study Of I Cornithians 15:35-58, Richard Otto Reinisch
An Exegetical-Doctrinal Study Of I Cornithians 15:35-58, Richard Otto Reinisch
Bachelor of Divinity
It is not within the scope of this paper to attempt to verify the reality of Christ's resurrection from the dead. We accept that as fact. Similarly, we believe that there is a life after death for all mankind. The aim of this paper is on the basis of I Corinthians 15:25-58 to determine the condition of the believers after the resurrection and especially with what kind of bodies they shall live in heaven.
Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode
Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode
Bachelor of Divinity
Our purpose is not to answer the question whether allegory should be used or not. We do not wish to raise the question whether allegorical interpretation should find a place in our exegetical practise. Our purpose is to show what Luther thought of allegorical interpretation. We shall attempt to answer the question whether he considered it permissible to use allegory at any time. If allegory may be used, and we know that Luther made use of it until the last, then what are the principles, the rules, to which it must be subjected?
A Study Of The Canon At 170 A. D., Harry Dequincey Smith Jr
A Study Of The Canon At 170 A. D., Harry Dequincey Smith Jr
Bachelor of Divinity
In this study, I purpose to consider but the first three of these questions. It shall be my endeavor to discover the historical information as to:
1. which books of our New, Testament were in the possession or Christians up to approximately the year 170 A.D.;
2. what kind of authority the Christians up to this date gave to these books; and,
3. whether any books other than those of our New Testament were given on equal authority.
The Authorship, Canonicity, And Authenticity Of The Epistle Of St Jude, Leroy Biesenthal
The Authorship, Canonicity, And Authenticity Of The Epistle Of St Jude, Leroy Biesenthal
Bachelor of Divinity
One of the most interesting books of the New Testament, from the isagogical standpoint, is that of the Epistle of St. Jude. It will be the purpose of this thesis to discuss certain of these problems. Under examination especially will be the question of authorship of the Epistle, the question of genuiness, and finally the problem of canonicity.
The Canonicity And Authorship Of The Epistle Of James, Norman P. Wangerin
The Canonicity And Authorship Of The Epistle Of James, Norman P. Wangerin
Bachelor of Divinity
The primary aim of this thesis is to establish, as far As that can be done, the basis for the canonicity of the Epistle of James. That problem really involves two questions. In the first place, does the Epistle come from Apostolic times? If it does not, then the problem is immediately settled, and the Epistle does not belong in our Bible. On the other hand, if it does come from Apostolic times, who is meant by the simple superscription “James, a servant of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ”?

The Nature And Purpose Of Our Savior's Miracles, Carl E. Mehlberg
The Nature And Purpose Of Our Savior's Miracles, Carl E. Mehlberg
Bachelor of Divinity
If we wish to know someone, we must study both his words and his actions. Since we cannot read his mind, we can only analyze what we can see and hear in order to learn who and what he is. From this it becomes evident, that the Person of Christ, Who and What He is, is involved in the question of miracles and their authenticity. They were, as St. John tells us, recorded to prove that Jesus "is the Christ, the Son of God". (Jn.20,31). If they are false, so also is Christ. He then becomes nothing more than an …

Variant Readings In The Text Of First Corinthians On The Basis Of P46, Walter H. Lutz
Bachelor of Divinity
Our interest in this study is a reexamination of the text of First Corinthians on the basis of P46. P46 is the symbol, agreed upon by scholars, to designate the Pauline Epistles in the Chester Beatty Collection of Biblical Papyri. It comprises manuscript no. II of the collection.
Who Is The Lord Of The World To Come An Exegetical Study Of Hebrews 2:5-9, Henry J. Otten
Who Is The Lord Of The World To Come An Exegetical Study Of Hebrews 2:5-9, Henry J. Otten
Bachelor of Divinity
In treating this problem I have decided to present the subject under two general heads. I shall first carry through an exegetical study of verses five to nine to determine the scope of the words and grammar. In the midst of this exegetical study I shall pause at intervals to discuss various sidelights of the problem at hand. In the second place, I shall try to crystallize the problem and arrive at a solution.
The Groaning Creation- An Exegetical Study Of Romans 8:18-22, Walter James Bartling
The Groaning Creation- An Exegetical Study Of Romans 8:18-22, Walter James Bartling
Bachelor of Divinity
Though the title of our paper reads "The Groaning Creation", the purpose of our discussion will be, not so much to describe the nature of creation's groaning, but to ascertain the causes of the groaning (terminus & quo) with the special purpose of predicting and defining its end (terminus ad quem) on the basis of Rom. 8;18-22. It will be the story of sin and grace, death and life, damnation and redemption, paradise lost and paradise regained as this is reflected in the physical universe. Our chief interest, however, will be eschatological. How has God's saving activity affected nature? What …
An Examination Of The Ethical Injunctions Of St Paul, Herbert T. Mayer
An Examination Of The Ethical Injunctions Of St Paul, Herbert T. Mayer
Bachelor of Divinity
Its only purpose is to highlight the ethical portions in the writings of Paul. It will do this by emphasizing three aspects which have perhaps not received proper stress in many books which discuss this subject. These three aspects will be discussed under the general heading of the new three-fold relationship in which the converted individual finds himself.

Evidence From Papyrus 46 For The Early Existence Of The So-Called Western Text With Special Reference To The Epistle Of St Paul To The Ephesians, Robert E. Plagens
Bachelor of Divinity
The aim of this paper is to study the text of Papyrus 46 and to compare it with other texts, especially the Western. I make no claim that the results of this study are final nor have I investigated all of P46. I have limited myself to the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians.
The Concepts Of Pistis And Elpis And, Agapee In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Karl L. Barth
The Concepts Of Pistis And Elpis And, Agapee In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Karl L. Barth
Bachelor of Divinity
We shall not attempt to solve the problem of authorship, nor, will the content and purpose of the epistle be treated beyond their relation to pistis, elpis, and agapee. Our problem is to determine: 1. what these words mean in the various passages in which they are used; 2. the role that these concepts play where they are present merely by implication. e. g., "tha abiding city" as part of the hope concept; 3. their relation to one another.

The discussion will center on the New Testament.
The Position Of Present Scholarship With Regard To The Hypothetical Document Designated As Logia Or "Q", Arno E. Krentz
The Position Of Present Scholarship With Regard To The Hypothetical Document Designated As Logia Or "Q", Arno E. Krentz
Bachelor of Divinity
One of' the perplexing problems in the field of New Testament Introduction is the relationship of the first three Gospels to each other. A careful reading of these Gospels rcvea1s that they are much alike and seem to have much in common. There are many similar or strikingly similar events in all three. Then, too, there are clearcut differences. The Evangelists who wrote these Gospels tell us nothing concerning how their writings were related to each other. Luke alone says something about how his Gospel came to be written. Apostolic testimony on these three Gospels is something unknown to us.
Saint Paul's Use Of The Old Testament In Romans, Harold Elmer Heinlein
Saint Paul's Use Of The Old Testament In Romans, Harold Elmer Heinlein
Bachelor of Divinity
This thesis designs to consider some of Paul's quotations in an analysis according to letter and content. · For purposes of limitation I have singled out the book of Romans as a representative section of Paul's writings - partly because of the great importance attached to that book; mostly because of the great wealth of quotations which he uses in that book, exceeding in number (by proportionate size of the books) even those found in the Gospel according to St. Matthew.
A Comparison Of Peter's Discourses In The Acts Of The Apostles With Peter's First Epistle, Willard Lewis Burce
A Comparison Of Peter's Discourses In The Acts Of The Apostles With Peter's First Epistle, Willard Lewis Burce

The Concept Of Reward In The New Testament, Wilbur May
The Concept Of Reward In The New Testament, Wilbur May
Bachelor of Divinity
As the title implies, the subject of this thesis is the concept of reward as it is presented in the New Testament. However, it will be advisable to limit this subject so that each part may be discussed in a thesis. Because of the lack of space, we shall immediately eliminate two phases of this subject which might possibly be included under the concept of reward.
After having eliminated these two phases of reward, there are still those rewards which the Christian receives for performing good works which are pleasing to God. It is with this reward that we are …
Matthew's Method Of Quoting The Old Testament, Lorenz Otto Nieting
Matthew's Method Of Quoting The Old Testament, Lorenz Otto Nieting
Bachelor of Divinity
In examining Matthew’s use of the Old Testament, we are immediately confronted by the problem of the language that he uses in quoting the Old Testament. The problem simply stated is to find out whether Matthew used the Hebrew, the Septuagint, an Aramaic version, or extant Greek version of the Old Testament: or if he used a number of these versions. In the case of the latter we shall try to determine under what circumstances Matthew used the one or the other version.
The Missionary Looks At His Work In The Light Of St Paul's Letter To The Colossians, O H. Schmidt
The Missionary Looks At His Work In The Light Of St Paul's Letter To The Colossians, O H. Schmidt
Bachelor of Divinity
While this paper was written primarily with reference to foreign mission work it is obvious that the various practical directions and hints contained in this epistle are just as applicable to the work in the home mission field. After all, the principles are the same, and you work with the same materials, with the word or God and with human beings.

The Relation Between Justification And Sanctification In Romans, Albert A. Behnke
The Relation Between Justification And Sanctification In Romans, Albert A. Behnke
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis is to present the relationship which exists in St. Paul's Letter to the Romans between Justification and Sanctification. From time to time this “mother and her child” have fared differently from various groups of religious minded people. In their devotion to the “mother" some have forgotten "her child" or at the most given it scant attention, resulting in cold formalism and dead or the orthodoxy until finally even the mother" herself died. Others beholding this devotion to the "mother" to the utter neglect of the "child” began to espouse the cause of the child until …

The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker
The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker
Bachelor of Divinity
It is our purpose to present the entire teaching of Paul on the fundamental doctrine of the resurrection. In the course of the positive presentation of Paul's teaching it will become clear that he nowhere contradicts himself but that he is consistent throughout. It will also become evident that Paul's doctrine of the resurrection is in complete harmony with the teachings of Jesus and with other parts of Scripture. When we speak of Pauline theology, therefore, we simply refer to the doctrines contained in Paul's epistles.
