Hebrews- A Rhetorical Study, Walter A. Jennrich
Hebrews- A Rhetorical Study, Walter A. Jennrich
Bachelor of Divinity
The present study treats of the Epistle to the Hebrews almost purely from the point of view of external form and is preliminary to a more general study of the whole subject of style and language in the New Testament. If it presents many matters of detail that are more or less tedious and call for patience one must bear in mind that it is only by the examination of details that one may come to a reasonably safe conclusion about principles. Even a cursory study of the works of literary critics will demonstrate the necessity of the warning that …
The Ministry Of The Word According To Titus Chapter I, Gottfried H. Naumann
The Ministry Of The Word According To Titus Chapter I, Gottfried H. Naumann
Bachelor of Divinity
All three of Paul's ''Pastoral Epistles" I and II Timothy and Titus furnish a wealth of material for the diligent study and restudy of the scriptural teaching regarding the Ministry of the Word. In this paper an attempt is made to treat exegetically on the basis of the original Greek the first chapter of Titus, all of which has direct bearing upon the doctrine of the ministry. Moreover the fifth verse of this chapter presents proof for the divine institution of a local ministry.
The Tabernacle Of Jehovah, Herman R. Mayer
The Tabernacle Of Jehovah, Herman R. Mayer
Bachelor of Divinity
Perhaps some of the most neglected chapters in the Bible are those which give a concise description of the sanctuary. They are neglected by Bible readers and students alike. Many who read through the Exodus account find the subject matter lacking in excitement or too involved to give it a little thought. Even Bible students are inclined to read through this particular section in such haste that they remove every opportunity of giving the structure of the Sanctuary careful consideration. A study of the Sanctuary therefore should be a challange to every one who holds a claim on interest in …
The Apostle Paul As A Model For Our Preaching And Writing, Ahlert H. Strand
The Apostle Paul As A Model For Our Preaching And Writing, Ahlert H. Strand
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of the apostle Paul's preaching and writing, as well as the method he pursued to accomplish his purpose, establishes him as a model worthy of our study and emulation.
The purpose of his preaching was threefold: the glory of God, the salvation, the sanctification of man.
The Cosmology Of Scripture, Leander M. Waechter
The Cosmology Of Scripture, Leander M. Waechter
Bachelor of Divinity
In these days of scientific consciousness a study of the cosmological teachings of Scripture should be or interest and value to the Bible student. For the average man of the twentieth century has a new measure by which he computes the value of all things, material, philosophical, or spiritual. Being taught from early childhood to think largely in the terms of science, it is inevitable that the modern man should reply to every problem which challenges his interest, "What does science say on the subject?"
The Work Of The Holy Spirit According To Romans Eight, Robert Charles Stade
The Work Of The Holy Spirit According To Romans Eight, Robert Charles Stade
Bachelor of Divinity

The Personal Wisdom In Proverbs Eight, Rudolph E. Honsey
The Personal Wisdom In Proverbs Eight, Rudolph E. Honsey
Bachelor of Divinity
It will be the burden of this treatise to establish the fact that in the eighth chapter of the Book of Proverbs we have a direct reference to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This we shall do on the basis of six Hebrew expressions which occur in verses 22 to 31. Then we shall consider the appropriateness of the term תכהת, as well as related terms, as ascribed to the Son of God. Finally, we shall consider the Personal Wisdom as our comfort in life and in death.

The Theology Of The Psalms Of David, Paul G. Bretscher
Bachelor of Divinity
This thesis is an attempt to reconstruct from the poetry of David the chief articles of his religious creed.

The Correspondence Of Paul And The Church At Corinth, Alton F. Wedel
The Correspondence Of Paul And The Church At Corinth, Alton F. Wedel
Bachelor of Divinity
The subject with which this thesis deals is not an article of faith. The problem is not doctrinal. But it remains for him who would search out the Scriptures to study these theories carefully, to come to very definite conclusions, and to be able to take his stand against all efforts to undermine confidence in Holy Writ. The theories are tempting; let the pastor beware!
The Concept Of Basileia In The Synoptic Gospels, Walter H. Mehlberg
The Concept Of Basileia In The Synoptic Gospels, Walter H. Mehlberg
Bachelor of Divinity
It is the aim of this paper to set forth the basic meaning of the concept Basileia, as used by the Synoptic writers. It is, then, in a spirit of earnest inquiry that we take up the study of the Synoptic Gospels and their great central teaching on the Kingdom. - We are 1imited in this paper to a discussion of:
THE CONCEPT OF BASILEIA IN THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS.
The Concept Of Love In The Johannine Writings, Omar Stuenkel
The Concept Of Love In The Johannine Writings, Omar Stuenkel
Bachelor of Divinity
In the present study I have given emphasis to the Johannine writings because John provides all points necessary for consideration. It is my hope that I can in the future expand and extend the consideration of the love-concept in the New Testament to include especially the magnificent Pauline passages and the Synoptic implications. I reserve the liberty however, in this paper, to adduce passages from any part of the New Testament where these will add a unique thought to the understanding of the Johannine concept of love.
Laurentius Valla And The Donation Of Constantine, Markus Koch
Laurentius Valla And The Donation Of Constantine, Markus Koch
Bachelor of Divinity
Generally, historians refer to Laurentius Valla, or Lorenzo Valla, or just plain Laurentius with a line or two and then dismiss his real significance. Quite evidently there is more to the man Valla, than a mere sentence of praise or condemnation. He must have done something to earn for himself the title as the greatest critic of his age, as a forerunner of the Lutheran 'heresy’, as the first scientific critical historian. He was not just an ordinary person, if be received the praise of a Luther and an Erasmus. This readily becomes apparent, even inspite of the limited character …

In the following thesis it will be the writer's purpose to focus the light entirely upon Christ as the subject of Isaiah 53. In the following pages I am presenting as clearly as possible the origin as well as the meaning of the New Testament formula "in the name" in the light of the most up-to-date research in the field of New Testament study. I am presenting what I believe to be the most plausible explanation. Further research by others may result in a more satisfactory solution.
Criticism And Evaluation Of The Book Of Revelation, Lorenz Blankenbuehler
Criticism And Evaluation Of The Book Of Revelation, Lorenz Blankenbuehler
Bachelor of Divinity
It is the purpose of this treatise to get at the bottom of some of the early misconceptions and misinterpretations of the Apocalypse -- and by a positive approach endeavor to place the book in its rightful place of honor and esteem among the canonical books of the New Testament. May the Holy Spirit bless this work, and confirm the writer and his readers in the opinion of the early church fathers that this grand. book of comfort and consolation for the world weary Christian pilgrim was written by the Apostle St. John the Divine, by inspiration of the Holy …
Biblical Concept Of Διαθηϗη, Elmer Griesse
Biblical Concept Of Διαθηϗη, Elmer Griesse
Bachelor of Divinity
ΔιαθηϏη is a key-word in Scripture, used to describe the relationship of God to man and man to God. There can be nothing more valuable for man than a right relationship to God. With God, man is supremely happy, without God man is totally unhappy, and is doomed to eternal unhappiness and misery.
Jewish Customs Reflected In The Parables Of Jesus As Given In St Matthew's Gospel, Martin Lopahs
Jewish Customs Reflected In The Parables Of Jesus As Given In St Matthew's Gospel, Martin Lopahs
Bachelor of Divinity
It is the writer's object to delve a bit deeper into the history behind .Christ's parables in the Matthew account. He has found in his narrowed and short experience, that there is a very close relationship between the earthly and the heavenly elements of this particular type of instruction. And in order to make these important truths, taught in the parables. more vivid, more realistic to his own understanding, he approached this subject - that he might thereby establish at least a short and concise background· of the parables, to learn and appreciate the common scenes and customs of Christ’s …
Critical Studies In The Text Of Romans Based On P46, Elmer Moeller
Critical Studies In The Text Of Romans Based On P46, Elmer Moeller
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis has a background. Two years ago Doctor Arndt interested several of his students, among them the writer, in the problem of isolating in the Pauline epistles a Caesarean text such as that which the critics Lake, Streeter, and others find chiefly in Codex Theta for the Gospels. The resulting studies in the critica1 editions of Tischendorf and von Soden and in the text of Papyrus 46 (P46) served as a fine introduction to further work. Because of the interest which these studies aroused, as master’s thesis in the graduate school of Washington University. Saint Louis, …

The Day Of Atonement And Its Evaluation In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Theodore Stolp
The Day Of Atonement And Its Evaluation In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Theodore Stolp
Bachelor of Divinity
Thus the Day of Atonement stands before us in the Scripture as a monument of that wisdom of God which always finds means exactly fitted to supply the needs of men under the conditions and times in which they live, and still more as a monument to that loving kindness of the Lord which is ever stooping to the sinners to rescue their souls from death and to “restore unto them the joy of His salvation.”
The Internal Relationship, Linguistic And Theological, Between The Gospel Of John And The Epistles Of John, Marvin Kammrath
The Internal Relationship, Linguistic And Theological, Between The Gospel Of John And The Epistles Of John, Marvin Kammrath
Bachelor of Divinity
The intrinsic value of a paper such as the one here presented, lies not so much in the impression made by the finished product as in the profitable textual study which it entails. The task of digging deep into the language and theology of four books of the New Testament has been a pleasant one. In addition to the joy of working with the original Greek of the sacred New Testament, of making careful literal translations and thorough exegetical studies, there has been the added satisfaction of unfolding cumulative doctrinal evidence overwhelming in its depth and extent.
The Fulfillment Of Old Testament Prophecy In The Gospel Of St Matthew Exegetically And Doctrinally Treated, Herbert Goerss
The Fulfillment Of Old Testament Prophecy In The Gospel Of St Matthew Exegetically And Doctrinally Treated, Herbert Goerss
Bachelor of Divinity
Matthew has some 27 prophecy quotations in his Gospel. We list them here as they occur from time to time in the Gospel, giving the location of the fulfillment, the subject prophesied, and the location of the prophecy. Of course, in some cases, various prophecies have the same fulfillment.
The Use Of Hades In The New Testament, Louis Meyer
The Use Of Hades In The New Testament, Louis Meyer
Bachelor of Divinity
The word hades (sheol) presents a problem--a matter on which the theologians or our own Synod are not agreed. Many of them believe that the word has various meanings--that in certain passages it means hell, while in other passages it has a general meaning, namely, "the state of death”. There are also those who are of the conviction that the term is never used to designate hell, the place of eternal punishment, but only means "the state or condition of death".
It is the latter view which, after careful study of the problem, I consider to be the more correct …
The Meaning Of Νομοε In The Epistles Of St Paul, Julius Kimpel
The Meaning Of Νομοε In The Epistles Of St Paul, Julius Kimpel
Bachelor of Divinity
"There is scarcely in the whole New Testament any greater difficulty than the ascertaining of the various meanings of νο̍μος in the Epistles of St. Paul,” wrote a renowned British scholar of a century ago. Was he overstating the matter when he wrote those words, or are there facts to confirm his judgment?
The References To Antichrist In Ii Thessalonians Compares With Those In The Epistles Of St. John, Peter Moog
The References To Antichrist In Ii Thessalonians Compares With Those In The Epistles Of St. John, Peter Moog
Bachelor of Divinity
The prophet Daniel, sometime during the sixth century before the birth or our savior, pictured in a vision the archenemy or God, the king who destroys the true worship of God. Some six hundred years later, Saint John the Divine on the Isle of Patmos, clarifies the vision of Daniel through another vision, in which he sees the woman arrayed in scarlet on the seven hills." The abominations of the king; whom Daniel saw are portrayed by Saint John in an extremely vivid and unmistakeable announcement. But just who is this destructive person or force? If one will approach the …
