An Innovative Method To Estimate Groundwater Level, Wang Iau-Teh, Chung Weihao Jan 2017

An Innovative Method To Estimate Groundwater Level, Wang Iau-Teh, Chung Weihao

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Soil properties and the position of illegal pumping wells can all be determined through the use of the groundwater level which, however, cannot be measured without the excavation of observation wells or the purchase of ground penetration radar. The former destroys terrain features, and the latter is expensive, aside from its limitations. This paper attempts to solve these problems by estimating groundwater levels economically via atmospheric conditions, and by collecting soil parameters near to the land’s surface. Firstly, the Penman-Monteith evaporation formula is explored to deduce the value of the embedded resistance ratio, which governs the involved water content, evaporation …

Auxiliary Principle Technique For Variational Inequalities, Muhammad Aslam Noor, Khalida Inayat Noor Jan 2017

Auxiliary Principle Technique For Variational Inequalities, Muhammad Aslam Noor, Khalida Inayat Noor

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, some implicit type methods for solving general variational inequalities are suggested and investigated using the auxiliary principle technique. It is shown that the convergence of the implicit method requires only the g-pseudomonotonicity, which is a weaker condition than g-monotonicity. Our results can be viewed as important refinement and improvement of the known results. The technique and ideas of this paper may be extended for other classes of variational inequalities and related optimization problems. Some special cases are also discussed.

On The Distribution Of The Ratio Of Two Hyper-Erlang Random Variables, Therrar Kadri, Khaled Smaili, Seifedine Kadry

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The distribution of ratio of two random variables has been studied by several authors especially when the two random variables are independent and come from the same family. In this paper, the exact distribution of the ratio of two independent Hyper- Erlang distribution is derived. However, closed expressions of the probability density, cumulative distribution function, reliability function, hazard function, moment generating function and the rth moment are found for this ratio distribution and proved to be a linear combination of the Generalized-F distribution. Moreover, the particular case, the ratio of two independent Hyper-Exponential distribution is examined.

Matrix Representation For The Beta Type Polynomials, Yilmaz Simsek Jan 2017

Matrix Representation For The Beta Type Polynomials, Yilmaz Simsek

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The aim of this paper is to study and investigate some new properties of the beta polynomials. Taking derivative of the generating functions for beta type polynomials, we give two partial differential equations (PDEs). By using these PDEs, we derive derivative formulas of the beta type polynomials. In order to construct a matrix representation for the beta polynomials, we firstly show that the set of beta polynomials is linearly independent. By using linearly independent properties, we prove that any polynomial of degree less than and equal n are written as a linearly combination of the beta polynomials. Therefore, we define …

Global Stability Of A Delayed Hiv-1 Model With Saturations Response, Nigar Ali, Gul Zaman, M. Ikhlaq Chohan

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this article, an HIV-1 infection dynamical model with saturation response including two continuous delays is presented. One delay represents the latent period between the time of contact of virus particles with targeted cells and the time of entering into the cells. While the other delay is used for the period of production of new virions that release from the infected cells. The basic reproduction number R0 is investigated and proved that if R0 ≤ 1, the infection-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. However, if R0 > 1, then an infected equilibrium occurs which is globally asymptotically stable. The analytical and …

Effect Of Thermal Stress And Magnetic Field On Propagation Of Transverse Wave In An Anisotropic Incompressible Dissipative Initially Stressed Plate, M. M. Selim

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In the present paper, we extend our previous work of the thermal effects on propagation of transverse waves in anisotropic incompressible dissipative pre-stressed plate, to investigate the effect of both thermal stress and magnetic field on transverse waves propagation in the medium. Biot incremental deformation theory has been used. The governing equations of transverse wave propagation are derived considering the magnetic forces applied on the plate through Maxwell equation. The influences of changes in anisotropy-type, thermal stress, initial stresses and magnetic field are investigated. The velocities of propagation as well as damping are discussed. Analytical analysis and Numerical computations reveal …

Combined Optimized Domain Decomposition Method And A Modified Fixed Point Method For Non Linear Diffusion Equation, M. R. Amattouch, H. Belhadj

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This work is devoted to an optimized domain decomposition method applied to a non linear anisotropic reaction equation. The proposed method is based on the idea of the optimized of two order (OO2) method developed this last two decades. We first use a modified fixed point technique to linearize the problem in a way to converge fately, then we generalize the OO2 method and modify it to obtain a new more optimized rate of convergence of the Schwarz algorithm. To compute the new rate of convergence we have used Fourier analysis. For the numerical computation we minimize this rate of …

Note On A Picard-Like Method For Caputo Fuzzy Fractional Differential Equations, Stefania Tomasiello, Jorge E. Macıas-Dıaz

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

A Picard-like approach which has been used to solve a class of Volterra integro-differential equations, is extended in this manuscript to solve fuzzy fractional differential equations. Such technique uses quadrature rules and Picard’s iterations in the fuzzy context. In spite of this, it is conceived to become a non-recursive scheme, in terms of operational matrices, in the linear regime. Some properties of the method are thoroughly discussed, and some numerical examples are provided in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the approach.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, step-stress partially accelerated life tests (SS-PALT) are considered when the lifetime of a product follows a two-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution (Chen distribution). Based on progressive Type-II censoring, the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) are obtained for the distribution parameters and acceleration factor. In addition, asymptotic variance and covariance matrix of the estimators are given. Approximate confidence intervals (CIs) for the parameters based on normal approximation to the asymptotic distribution of the MLEs and the bootstrap (CIs) are derived. An iterative procedure is used to obtain the estimators numerically using (Mathematica Package). A numerical example is presented to illustrate …

The Performance Of Re-Descending Weight Based Partial Robust M-Regression Methods, Mazni Mohamad, Norazan Mohamed Ramli, Nor Azura Md Ghani

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The presence of Partial Robust M-Regression (PRM) amongst other Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) techniques is mainly to offer a more robust and efficient method than the existing ones when data face outlier problem. PRMis conceptually different from other robust PLSR techniques because it proposed the usage of M-estimator instead of a more commonly used Least Squares (LS) estimator. Recently, there are several efforts among researchers to further enhance the PRM performance. Among those methods are Partial Robust M-Regression (based on Bisquare Weight Function) (PRMBS) and Partial Robust M-Regression (based on Hampel Weight Function) (PRMH). These two methods are re-descending …

Environmental Taxation: Privatization With Different Public Firm’S Objective Functions, Fernanda A. Ferreira, Flavio Ferreira

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we study the effects of environmental taxes and privatization in a mixed market, by considering that the public firm aims to maximize the social welfare. The model has two stages. In the first stage, the government sets the environmental tax. Then, the firms engage in a Cournot competition, choosing output and pollution abatement levels. We also compare the results obtained with the ones got when the public firm aims to maximize the sum of consumer surplus and the firm’s profit.

An Efficient Numerical Technique For Solving The Inverse Gravity Problem Of Finding A Lateral Density, Elena N. Akimova, Peter S. Martyshko, Vladimir E. Misilov, Rostislav A. Kosivets

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The main goal of our paper is to construct a technique for the gravity inversion problem of finding a variable density in a horizontal layer on the basis of gravitational data. This technique consists of two steps: extracting the gravitational field and solving the linear integral equation of the density. After discretization and approximation of integral operator, this problem is reduced to solving large systems of linear algebraic equations. To solve these systems, we proposed a memory-efficient algorithm based on the iterative method of minimal residuals. The idea of memory optimization is based on exploiting the block-Toeplitz structure of coefficients …

A Modified Fractional Derivative And Its Application To Fractional Vibration Equation, Jun-Sheng Duan Sep 2016

A Modified Fractional Derivative And Its Application To Fractional Vibration Equation, Jun-Sheng Duan

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a new modified definition of the fractional derivative is presented. The Laplace transform of the modified fractional derivative involves the initial values of the integer-order derivatives, but does not involve the initial values of the fractional derivatives as the Caputo fractional derivative. Using this new definition, Nutting’s law of viscoelastic materials can be derived from the Scott-Blair stress-strain law as the Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative. Moreover, as the order a approaches n− and (n−1)+, the new modified fractional derivative †Da t f (t) approaches the corresponding integer-order derivatives f (n)(t) and f (n−1)(t), respectively. Therefore, the proposed modified …
