Recently, there are lots of ongoing researches for underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs). Unlike terrestrial wireless sensor networks which use radio waves, UWASNs communicate by using acoustic waves. The acoustic waves have long propagation delay. Therefore, media access control (MAC) for terrestrial wireless sensor networks does not operate appropriately. Most of recent researches for UWASNs are targeting simple network topology which consists of a single gateway and a number of nodes. However, there are mobile objects, such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) or multiple gateways, to guarantee reliability of the system in practical UWASNs. Therefore, data transmission with various routes …

Creative Structure Of Symmetric And Asymmetric Multilevel Converter Topology Using Single-Double Source Unit, S. Mohamed Yousuf, S. Latha, M. Jagabar Sathik
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Multilevel converters is the most popular field of research in DC/AC power converters because it has attractive features such as high-quality output voltage, low harmonic content, and low dv/dt stress, and it can be used in medium-voltage, high-power applications such as FACTS devices, which includes the DVR and STATCOM, industrial drives, and renewable energy source-based applications. However, the multilevel converters have the drawback of increasing the number of switches as number of level increases. In order to reduce the power electronic switches, this article proposes a new multilevel converter, which consists of n number of isolated DC sources connected in …

A Fusion Framework Of Ids Alerts And Darknet Traffic For Effective Incident Monitoring And Response, Sang-Soo Choi, Seok-Hun Kim, Hark-Soo Park
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Most organizations deploy and operate intrusion detection systems (IDSs) in order to cope with cyber attacks. However, in many cases, it is very difficult to not only analyze IDS alerts in real-time, but also identify real cyber attacks with a high detection accuracy because IDSs record the tremendous amount of alerts and most of them are false positives. Many approaches have been proposed to solve this issue, but there is a limitation in that they have focused on dealing with only IDS alerts. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a fusion framework of IDS alerts and darknet traffic, which is …
Environmental Taxation: Privatization In An International Duopoly With Tariffs, Fernanda A. Ferreira, Flavio Ferreira
Environmental Taxation: Privatization In An International Duopoly With Tariffs, Fernanda A. Ferreira, Flavio Ferreira
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we study trade and environmental policies in an international duopoly serving two countries, with pollution abatement. This analysis is done in both mixed and privatized markets. The model has two stages: First, governments choose environmental taxes and import tariffs, simultaneously; then, the firms compete in the market by choosing output levels for the domestic market and to export and also abatement levels. We analyse the effects of privatization, and we also compare the results obtained in the international competition with the ones got in a domestic competition.

A Novel Intellectual Decision Support Model Of Careers Based On Semantic Spaces, Ashraf Darwish, Olga Poleshchuk
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents a new intellectual support model to evaluate the conditions of career choice for university graduates. This model is based on academic progress, intelligence and personal characteristics of university graduates. The proposed model is based on expert (employers) opinions about the importance of each characteristic for successful career. The Scientific novelty of this model is that the authors do not handle numeric values of the characteristics, but formalize them with the help of semantic spaces COSS because according to the properties of COSS each term has at least one typical representative and each point of universal set has …

Factoring Rsa Modulus With Primes Not Necessarily Sharing Least Significant Bits, Hatem M. Bahig, Dieaa I. Nassr, Ashraf Bhery
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The security of many public-key cryptosystems, such as RSA, is based on the difficulty of factoring a composite integer. Until now, there is no known polynomial time algorithm to factor any composite integer with classical computers. In this paper, we study factoring n when n= pq is a product of two primes p and q satisfying that p≡lk1 mod 2q1 and q≡lk2 mod 2q2 for some positive integers q1,q2, k1, k2 ≤ logn and l.We show that n can be factored in time polynomial in logn if l < 2q and either | p−lk1 2q1 || q−lk2 2q2 |< lk or 2q ′ ≥ n1/4, where q = min{q1,q2}, q ′ = max{q1,q2} and k = min{k1, k2}. We also show that the result of Steinfeld and Zheng [21] when the two primes p and q share least significant bits is a special case of our results. Our results point out the warring for cryptographic designers to be careful when generating primes for the RSA modulus

Low-Stress Data Embedding In The Hyperbolic Plane Using Multidimensional Scaling, Andrej Cvetkovski, Mark Crovella
Low-Stress Data Embedding In The Hyperbolic Plane Using Multidimensional Scaling, Andrej Cvetkovski, Mark Crovella
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is a technique used to produce two- or three-dimensional visualizations of similarities within datasets consisting of multidimensional points or point distances. Metric MDS can also be applied to the problems of graph embedding for approximate encoding of edge or path costs using node coordinates in metric space. Thus, MDS can be used both as a visualization tool and as a data embedding algorithm. Recent works have noted that for certain datasets, hyperbolic target space may provide a better fit than the traditionally used Euclidean space. In this paper we present several numerical examples of low-stress embedding of …

Forward Stable Computation Of Roots Of Real Polynomials With Real Simple Roots, Nevena Jakovcevic Stor, Ivan Slapnicar
Forward Stable Computation Of Roots Of Real Polynomials With Real Simple Roots, Nevena Jakovcevic Stor, Ivan Slapnicar
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
As showed in (Fiedler, 1990), any polynomial can be expressed as a characteristic polynomial of a complex symmetric arrowhead matrix. This expression is not unique. If the polynomial is real with only real distinct roots, the matrix can be chosen real. By using the accurate forward stable algorithm for computing eigenvalues of the real symmetric arrowhead matrices from (Jakovˇcevi´c Stor, Slapniˇcar, Barlow, 2015), we derive a new forward stable algorithm for computation of roots of such polynomials in O(n2) operations. The algorithm computes each root to almost full accuracy. In some cases, the algorithm invokes extended precision routines, but only …
Category Theory As A Formal Mathematical Foundation For Model-Based Systems Engineering, Mohamed A. Mabrok, Michael J. Ryan
Category Theory As A Formal Mathematical Foundation For Model-Based Systems Engineering, Mohamed A. Mabrok, Michael J. Ryan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we introduce Category Theory as a formal foundation for model-based systems engineering. A generalised view of the system based on category theory is presented, where any system can be considered as a category. The objects of the category represent all the elements and components of the system and the arrows represent the relations between these components (objects). The relationship between these objects are the arrows or the morphisms in the category. The Olog is introduced as a formal language to describe a given real-world situation description and requirement writing. A simple example is provided.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of thermal explosion in two-phases polydisperse combustible mixtures of gas with fuel droplets. The size distribution of the fuel droplets is assumed to be continuous. The system of the polydisperse fuel spray takes into account the effects of the thermal radiation and convection. We applied numerical simulation to the full model in order to find the time of the explosion of the droplets after evaporation process. We compared our numerical results to experimental data for different type of fuels and for different type of PDF function as: Rosin-Rammler, Nukiyama-Tanasawa, Log-Normal distribution and Normal …

M/G/C/C State Dependent Queueing Model For Road Traffic Simulation, Nacira Guerrouahane, Djamil Aissani, Louiza Bouallouche-Medjkoune, Nadir Farhi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we present a stochastic queuing model for the road traffic, which captures the stationary density-flow relationships in both uncongested and congestion conditions. The proposed model is based on the M/g/c/c state dependent queuing model of Jain and Smith, and is inspired from the deterministic Godunov scheme for the road traffic simulation. We first propose a reformulation of the M/g/c/c state dependent model that works with density-flow fundamental diagrams rather than density-speed relationships. We then extend this model in order to consider upstream traffic demand as well as downstream traffic supply. Finally we calculate the speed and travel …

A Structure-Preserving Modified Exponential Method For The Fisher–Kolmogorov Equation, Jorge E. Macıas-Dıaz, Stefania Tomasiello
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this work, we propose an exponential-type discretization of the well-known Fisher’s equation from population dynamics. Only non-negative, bounded and monotone solutions are physically relevant in this note, and the discretization that we provide is able to preserve these properties. The method is a modified explicit exponential technique which has the advantage of requiring a small amount of computational resources and computer time. It is worthwhile to notice that our technique has the advantage over other exponentiallike methodologies that it yields no singularities. In addition, the preservation of the properties of non-negativity, boundedness and monotonicity are distinctive features of our …

Steady Thermosolutocapillary Instability In Fluid Layer With Nondeformable Free Surface In The Presence Of Insoluble Surfactant And Gravity, Razihan Allias, Mohd Agos Salim Nasir, Seripah Awang Kechil
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Steady thermosolutocapillary instabilities in a horizontal thin fluid layer with deformable free surface and uniform temperature at the bottom boundary in the presence of insoluble surfactant and gravity force are examined. The surface tension at the free surface is assumed to be linearly dependent on temperature and concentration gradients. The linear stability theory and the Galerkin method are used to obtain the closed form solutions. The effects of the controlling parameters, namely the Rayleigh number, Biot number, Lewis number, and elasticity parameter on the onset of Marangoni convection are analyzed. The results show that the gravitational force acts as destabilizer …

Int-Soft Substructures Of Groups And Semirings With Applications, Akın Osman Atagun, Aslıhan Sezgin
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we introduce a new type of subgroup and normal subgroup of a group, called intersection-soft subgroup (int-soft subgroup) and intersection-normal subgroup (int-soft normal subgroup), by using Molodtsov’s definition of the soft sets. We investigate their related properties with respect to soft set operations and group homomorphisms. Moreover, we introduce intersectionsoft subsemiring (int-soft subsemiring) and intersection-soft ideal (int-soft ideal) of a semiring and some related properties are investigated and illustrated by many examples. Finally, we give some applications of these new concepts to group theory and semiring theory.

Some Statistical Properties For A Non-Linear Tavis Cummings Model, A. S. -F. Obada, M. M. A. Ahmed, H. F. Habeba
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A non-linear Tavis Cummings model is studied, especially, two two-level atoms interacting with two modes of radiation field with Stark shift effect. The time-dependent wave function and consequently the density matrix are obtained from which we discussed the effect of Stark shift on different statistical aspects for the present system, for example, atomic inversion, entanglement, variance squeezing and degree of coherence. It is observed that the Stark shift parameter plays an important role on the evolution of these aspects. When Stark shift parameter moves away from 1, the atomic inversion is shifted upwards, entanglement decreases and more squeezing occur.
