Modified Generalized Half-Normal Distribution With Application To Lifetimes, Neveka M. Olmos, Osvaldo Venegas
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this article we introduce a new distribution which is constructed by taking, as a base, the absolute value of a random variable with alpha skew-normal (ASN) distribution. The density of this distribution and some of its properties such as moments and its skewness and kurtosis coefficients are discussed. We calculate the moment and the maximum likelihood estimators, and carry out a Monte Carlo study. Finally, an example with real data to illustrate the usefulness and applicability of the proposed distribution is presented. It is shown that the obtained result is a distribution with considerable flexibility.

Transient Analysis Of A Non-Preemptive Priority Queueing System, V. S. S. Yadavalli, Diatha Krishna Sundar, Swaminathan Udayabaskaran, C. T. Dora Pravina
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A single server queueing system is considered in which two types of customers arrive according to independent Poisson processes. Customers of type 1 are of priority nature and the other customers of type 2 are of non-priority. Type 1 customers have nonpreemptive priority over type 2 customers. Assuming that service times for both types of customers have exponential distribution with mean 1/m, we obtain explicit expressions for the transient solution for the state probability distribution. We deduce the steady-state joint distribution of the number of customers of type 1 and customers of type 2 and also obtain performance measures of …

Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) has got more focus because of its pragmatic applications and inevitability of communication in mobile devices. MANET is a wireless network, self-configuring and nodes communicate between them without any centralized supervision. Vibrant nature of MANET demands end to end quality of service. Nodes Trust is the most challenging apprehension in routing protocol for MANETs. The trust based routing is one way to form assistance among nodes for performing an competent routing. To optimize the routing mechanism a bio inspired metaheuristics technique, Ant colony optimization is used. It simulates ant behavior to solve complex combinatorial problems. ACO …

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) is a technology to meet high data rate necessity for next generation communication system. It can well use the spectrum to enhance the communication throughput. Design a low-complex, high performance detection algorithm for the MIMO system has been a vital issue. The efficient detection of MIMO signal using Modified Memetic Algorithm (MMA) with Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) varying constellation size is proposed in this paper. The performance of the proposed work is at far with the optimum Maximum Likelihood Detector (MLD) in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and computational complexity. Three stages are there …
A Collaborative Composite Event Detection Approach In Wireless Sensor Network Using Fuzzy Assisted Decision System, S. Nalini, A. Valarmathi
A Collaborative Composite Event Detection Approach In Wireless Sensor Network Using Fuzzy Assisted Decision System, S. Nalini, A. Valarmathi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Recently, inWireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), several energy efficient event detection algorithms have been proposed that aim to minimize battery storage, energy consumption and to maximize the network lifetime by framing reduced fuzzy rules related to spatio-temporal properties for determining the event. Since sensors are prone to intermittent fault it would result to fault susceptible reading that generates false alarm event, which would lead to lack of conforming the event at a higher confidence rate. Hence, during decision making, the confidence level parameter of the sensor node is integrated by considering the spatio-temporal properties. In this paper, we demonstrate through collaborative …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A Generalized Space Time Autoregressive or GSTAR is a special model of Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model which is a combination of time series and spatial models which has the assumption of autoregressive parameter and space time parameter having different value for each location of observation. In addition, it assumes stationary time series data at the mean and variance levels and applies to locations with heterogeneous characteristics. One disadvantage of the GSTAR model is that it can not be used to predict at unobserved locations. In this paper we combine the GSTAR model with the Ordinary Kriging (OK) technique, named GSTAR-Kriging …

Reliable Numerical Algorithm For Handling Differential- Algebraic System Involving Integral-Initial Conditions, Khaled Moaddy
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The aim of the present analysis is to implement a relatively recent computational method, the reproducing kernel Hilbert space, for obtaining numerical solutions for differential algebraic system of integral-initial conditions. Two extended inner product spaces W [0, 1] and H [0, 1] are constructed in which the integral-initial conditions of the systems are satisfied. Whilst, two smooth kernel functions Rt (s) and rt (s) are used throughout the evolution of the algorithm in order to obtain the required grid points. An efficient construction is given to obtain the numerical solutions for the systems together with an existence proof of the …

A Continuous Review Inventory System With Retrial Customers And Two-Stage Service, V. S. S. Yadavalli, J. Kathiresan, N. Anbazhagan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we developed a model of a retrial inventory system in which there exists two-stage service. The demanded item is delivered to the customer after a random time of service. The interarrival times of customers, lead times, the retrial times and service times are assumed to have independent exponential distribution. The joint probability distribution of the number of customers in the system and the inventory level is obtained in the steady state case. Some important system performance measures and the long run total expected cost rate are calculated. We numerically demonstrate the model and investigate the impact of …

A Hermite Method For Maxwell’S Equations, Vitoriano Ruas, Marco Antonio Silva Ramos
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A mathematical formulation suitable for the application of a novel Hermite finite element method, to solve electromagnetic field problems in two- and three-dimensional domains is studied. This approach offers the possibility to generate accurate approximations of Maxwell’s equations in smooth domains, with a rather rough interpolation and without curved elements. Method’s degrees of freedom are the normal derivative mean values of the electric field across the edges or the faces of a mesh consisting of N-simplices, in addition to the mean value in the mesh elements of the field itself. Second-order convergence of the electric field in the mean-square sense …

Power-Models For Proportions With Zero/One Excess, Guillermo Mart´Inez-Fl´Orez, Heleno Bolfarine, H´Ector W. G´Omez
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we consider power distributions for modeling proportions or rates with zero and/or one inflation as an alternative to beta regression. The model considered is a mixture between a Bernoulli type process for explaining the zero and/or one excess and a truncated power-normal model for explaining the continuous response. The maximum likelihood approach is considered for parameter estimation. Observed and expected information matrices are derived, illustrating interesting aspects of the likelihood approach. Given the flexibility of the power-normal distribution, we are able to show, in a practical scenario, the better performance of our proposal over the beta regression …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we introduce the generating function of Hermite-based poly-Daehee numbers and polynomials. By making use of this generating function, we investigate some new and interesting identities for the Hermite-based poly-Daehee numbers and polynomials including recurrence relations, addition property and correlations with poly-Bernoulli polynomials of second kind. We then derive diverse implicit summation formula for Hermite-based poly-Daehee numbers and polynomials by applying the series manipulation methods.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents a novel hybrid intelligent system based on ensemble of neuro-fuzzy classifiers (NFCs) and rough set theory for automatic detection of heart disease. A pool of NFCs which is trained using scale conjugate gradient is generated. Rough sets are used to identify the most significant classifiers which contributed in the committee. Consequently, the classifiers space of the ensemble is reduced which in turn reduce the complexity of the problem. The results of the reduced NFCs are combined by majority voting rule to obtain the final diagnosis decision. The proposed system is applied on the dataset taken from the …

A Framework For Labeling Images Through Object Detection And Segmentation Using Preprocessing And Renet Architecture, N. Shanmugapriya, D. Chitra
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In a Segmentation-based approach, an image is segmented and its various regions are classified, unlike classifying the individual pixels. This papers uses the ReNet architecture to extract the features of an object in an image. This ReNet architecture replaces each convolutional layer(CNN) with four RNNs that also brings together lower-layer features from different directions. After the extraction of feature the image is over segmented into superpixels first and then it is classified into individual superpixels. The dependencies to the nearby superpixel labels shall be explored and exploited by Conditional Random Field statistical approach. Though the time to segment and label …
