A Note On The New Extended Beta And Gauss Hypergeometric Functions, Anjali Goswami, Shilpi Jain, Praveen Agarwal, Serkan Araci
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A variety of extensions of the classical beta function and the Gauss hypergeometric function 2F1 have been presented and investigated. In this sequel, we aim to give a further extension of the extended beta function, which is used to extend the 2F1 and the confluent hypergeometric function 1F1. Then we investigate to present certain properties and formulas associated with these three extended functions. The results presented here, being very general, are pointed out to be specialized to yield numerous known and new representations and formulas.
Duffing Oscillator Vibration Control Via Suspended Pendulum, Wedad A. El-Ganaini
Duffing Oscillator Vibration Control Via Suspended Pendulum, Wedad A. El-Ganaini
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper investigates the vibration control of a harmonically excited Duffing oscillator via a simple pendulum. The amplitude-phase modulating equations governing the system dynamics are extracted utilizing perturbation methods. Bifurcation analyses are conducted and the Lyapunov direct method is applied to study the system stability. The uncontrolled system exhibits a variety of nonlinear phenomena such as jump phenomenon, saddle-node, and transcritical bifurcations. The analysis showed that the oscillator vibrational energy could be transferred to the pendulum parametrically when the pendulum natural frequency is equal to one-half the oscillator natural frequency. Numerical validation for the obtained analytical results was performed, which …

Detection, Prevention And Mitigation Of Wormhole Attack In Wireless Adhoc Network By Coordinator, R. Arun Prakash, W. R. Salem Jeyaseelan, T. Jayasankar
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The adhoc networks are the briefly established wireless networks that don’t need to be mounted infrastructure it’s conjointly called as infrastructure less network. These adhoc networks share a common wireless medium and lack central coordination which makes them more liable to attacks when compared to wired network. In case of wormhole wireless attack, the intruder senses the packets in terms of bits and tunnels them (possibly selectively) from one location to a different location.it then send back them into the network. Such wormhole attacks can be a significant threat against location-based wireless security systems and adhoc networks per se. In …

Winsorized And Smoothed Estimation Of The Location Model In Mixed Variables Discrimination, Hashibah Hamid
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The location model is a familiar basis and excellent tool for discriminant analysis of mixtures of categorical and continuous variables compared to other existing discrimination methods. However, the presence of outliers affects the estimation of population parameters, hence causing the inability of the location model to provide accurate statistical model and interpretation as well. In this paper, we construct a new location model through the integration of Winsorization and smoothing approach taking into account mixed variables in the presence of outliers. The newly constructed model successfully enhanced the model performance compared to the earlier developed location models. The results of …

The need for reduction in emission of harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from fossil fuel fired power plants has attracted our attention since it pollutes the atmosphere. So an attempt has been made to combine the concept of emission dispatch along with an economic dispatch problem with the help of the ABC algorithm using the weighting function method in power system operation. To apply this algorithm the original problem of optimization has been changed into the problem of identifying the best parameter that optimizes the objective function. This algorithm has shown its effectiveness in …

An Adaptive Finite Element Method In Quantitative Reconstruction Of Small Inclusions From Limited Observations, John Bondestam Malmberg, Larisa Beilina
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We consider a coefficient inverse problem to determine the dielectric permittivity in Maxwell’s equations, with data consisting of boundary measurements. The true dielectric permittivity is assumed to belong to an ideal space of very fine finite elements. The problem is treated using a Lagrangian approach to the minimization of a Tikhonov functional, where an adaptive finite element method forms the basis of the computations. A new a posteriori error estimate for the norm of the error in the reconstructed permittivity is derived. The adaptive algorithm is formulated and tested successfully in numerical experiments for the reconstruction of two, three, and …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A multistart (MS) clustering technique to compute multiple roots of a system of nonlinear equations through the global optimization of an appropriate merit function is presented. The search procedure that is invoked to converge to a root, starting from a randomly generated point inside the search space, is a new variant of the harmony search (HS) metaheuristic. The HS draws its inspiration from an artistic process, the improvisation process of musicians seeking a wonderful harmony. The new hybrid HS algorithm is based on an improvisation operator that mimics the best harmony and uses the idea of a differential variation, borrowed …

Computational Design Of Acoustic Materials Using An Adaptive Optimization Algorithm, Larisa Beilina, Eugene Smolkin
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We consider the problem of design of the acoustic structure of arbitrary geometry with prescribed desired properties. We use optimization approach for the solution of this problem and minimize the Tikhonov functional on adaptively refined meshes. These meshes are refined locally only in places where the acoustic structure should be designed. Our special symmetric mesh refinement strategy together with interpolation procedure allows the construction of the symmetric acoustic material with prescribed properties. Efficiency of the presented adaptive optimization algorithm is illustrated on the construction of the symmetric acoustic material in two dimensions.

An Inverse Problem For Delay Differential Equations: Parameter Estimation, Nonlinearity, Sensitivity, Fathalla A. Rihan, Abdulla A. Azamov, Hebatallah J. Al-Sakaji
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This article presents the theoretical framework to solve inverse problems for Delay Differential Equations (DDEs). Given a parameterized DDE and experimental data, we estimate the parameters appearing in the model, using least squares approach. Some issues associated with the inverse problem, such as nonlinearity and discontinuities which make the problem more ill-posed, are studied. Sensitivity and robustness of the models to small perturbations in the parameters, using variational approach, are also investigated. The sensitivity functions may provide guidance for the modelers to determine the most informative data for a specific parameter, and select the best fit model. The consistency of …
