Estimating The Mixing Proportion Of Mixture Of Two Chi-Square Distributions, Parviz Nasiri, Amirabbas Azarian Jul 2018

Estimating The Mixing Proportion Of Mixture Of Two Chi-Square Distributions, Parviz Nasiri, Amirabbas Azarian

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In mixture distributions, mixing parameter is an important parameter. In this paper we estimate this parameter in mixture of two chi-square distributions using method of moments, EM-algorithm and Bayesian approach. These estimators are compared empirically; and their bias is investigated using numerical techniques. At the end, we conjecture that EM-algorithm is better than method of moments, but bayesian approach is better than method of moments and EM-algorithm. Analysis of a real data set is considered for illustrative purposes.

A Hierarchical Approach To Node Localization Based On Fuzzy System To Increase Network Lifetime In Wireless Sensor Networks, M. Karthiga, R. Venkatesan

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Energy efficiency is of utmost importance in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). A WSN that lives long proves to be more worthy for the effort and cost involved in establishing the network. The standards and protocols in aWSN are expected to be economical in their energy usage. Localization is one such important area, where much contribution has been made by the researchers to improve the accuracy and not much in increasing their energy efficiency. In this work, a hierarchical approach to increase energy efficiency during localization has been proposed. Existing localization approaches, irrespective of the node’s remaining energy levels, use a …

New Aspects Of Rayleigh Distribution Under Progressive First-Failure Censoring Samples, Tahani A. Abushal

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This article considers the problem of estimating the unknown parameters of the compound Rayleigh distribution with progressive first-failure censoring scheme during step-stress partially accelerated life tests (ALT). Progressive first-failure censoring and accelerated life testing are performed to decrease the duration of testing and to lower test expenses. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and Bayes estimates (BEs) for the distribution parameters and acceleration factor are obtained. The optimal time for stress change is determined. Furthermore, the approximate, bootstrap and credible confidence intervals (CIs) of the parameters are derived. Methods of Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) are used to obtain the Bayes …

A New Transformation For Chaotic Image Encryption Based On The Arnold Cat Map, V. J. Subashini, S. Poornachandra Jul 2018

A New Transformation For Chaotic Image Encryption Based On The Arnold Cat Map, V. J. Subashini, S. Poornachandra

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Encryption is a technique used to enhance the security of a file by rendering its contents incomprehensible. The habitual transmission of digital images requires that they are made impervious to unauthorized access. It is, however, tedious to encrypt or decrypt images directly. The Arnold transform, better known as the Arnold cat map, is the most commonly used chaos-based image encryption technique that works by shuffling image pixels. A modified form of the general Arnold cat map is proposed in this article. Arnold cat map uses only shearing, whereas the proposed method utilizes both interweaving and shearing. Like Arnold transform, the …

On The Horizontal Homogeneity Of The Atmospheric Boundary Layer Profile In Cfd Simulations, Islam Abohela

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

One of the main factors affecting the consistency of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation results is the horizontal homogeneity of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) profile, which is correctly reproducing the ABL profile and maintaining the profile throughout the streamwise direction of the computational domain for different flow variables. This paper is part of a research arguing that different commercial CFD codes, despite using the same simulation variables, can yield different results for achieving a horizontally homogeneous ABL profile. This paper aims to assess the performance of the commercial CFD code ANSYS Fluent, in achieving a horizontally homogeneous ABL profile.Since …

Unsteady Flow Of A Microstretch Fluid Through State Space Approach With Slip Conditions, S. A. Slayi, E. A. Ashmawy

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper deals with the study of unsteady microstretch Couette and Poiseuille fluid flows between two infinite parallel plates. Analytical expressions for the velocity, microrotation and microstretch of the fluid flows are obtained using Laplace transform together with state space approach. The slip boundary conditions for both velocity and microrotation are applied at the boundaries. The inversion of Laplace transform of the flow field is obtained numerically using a standard numerical technique developed by Honig and Hirdes. The effects of the physical parameters on the velocity, microrotation and microstretch are discussed through graphs.

Computing The Median And Range For Power Function Distributions, Fahrettin Ozbey

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Median and range of a random sample are measures based on order statistics which are descriptive of the central tendency and dispersion of the population, respectively. In this paper, we obtain the median and range for order statistics from non-identical standard power distributions functions. Then, the median and range for identical standard power functions distributions and uniform distributions functions are given. Finally numerical results of the median and range are presented.

For the extracted mouth region, Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is applied to segregate the crucial features. Then the visual lip features are trained using …

Two-Step Scheme For Implementing N Two-Qubit Quantum Logic Gates Via Cavity Qed, T. Said, A. Chouikh, M. Bennai Jul 2018

Two-Step Scheme For Implementing N Two-Qubit Quantum Logic Gates Via Cavity Qed, T. Said, A. Chouikh, M. Bennai

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We theoretically present an effective method to realize a two-step NiSWAP, N√iSWAP, NSWAP and N√SWAP gates based on the qubit-qubit interaction in a cavity QED driven by a strong microwave field. The operation times do not increase with the growth of the qubit number. Due to the virtual excitations of the cavity, the scheme is insensitive to both the cavity decay and the thermal field. Numerical analysis under the influence of the gates operations shows that the our proposal can be implemented with high fidelity. Moreover, the scheme can be realized in the range of current cavity QED techniques.

Exponential Stability Of Discrete-Time Cellular Uncertain Bam Neural Networks With Variable Delays Using Halanay-Type Inequality, C. Sowmiya, R. Raja, Jinde Cao, G. Rajchakit, Ahmed Alsaedi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper is concerned with the class of uncertain discrete time Bi-directional associative memory (BAM) cellular neural networks with variable delays. Here the result is enhanced to ensure the global stability in the sense of exponential for the addressed time delayed neural networks by employing a discrete analogue of Halanay-type inequality. This type of inequalities can be used as basic tool in the study of exponential stability of the equilibrium for certain generalized difference equations. An important feature presents in our paper is that, with the help of time-invariant perturbation matrix which is often called parameter uncertainties, the proposed stability …

This paper aims to computationally study the effects of Navier slip on an unsteady hydromagnetic flow of a pressure driven, reactive, variable viscosity, electrically conducting third-grade fluid through a porous saturated medium with asymmetrical convective boundary conditions. It is assumed that the chemical kinetics in the flow system is exothermic and that the asymmetric convective heat exchange with the surrounding medium at the surfaces follows Newtons law of cooling. The coupled nonlinear partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer are derived and solved numerically using a semi-implicit finite difference scheme. The flow and heat transfer characteristics are analyzed …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we propose the modified prediction-correction methods for solving pseudomonotone variational inequalities problems. The proposed methods can be viewed as an extension of the method of He et al. [11, B.S. He and X.M. Yuan, Comparison of two kinds of prediction–correction methods for monotone variational inequalities, Computational Optimization and Applications, Vol. 27, pp. 247–267 (2004).] by additional projection step at each iteration under the relaxed condition where the mapping is pseudomonotone. The convergence of the proposed method is proved. The numerical results are given to verify the efficiency of the modified methods.

Graphing Examples Of Starlike And Convex Functions Of Order Β, Hameed Ur Rehman, Maslina Darus, Jamal Salah

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we introduce and investigate two subclasses H∗b(n,b,f ) and Kb (n,b,f ) of analytic functions with negative coefficients of order b in the unit disk D. Silverman [6] determined certain coefficient inequalities and distortion theorems for univalent functions with negative coefficients that are starlike S(a), and convex K(a) of order a respectively. We also obtain the same coefficient inequalities and distortion theorem for such univalent functions with negative coefficients. We point out that the coefficient estimates up to z9 are enough to get the graphs of starlike and convex functions. Here in the sequel we give some …

New Parameter-Uniform Discretisations Of Singularly Perturbed Volterra Integro-Differential Equations, Bakulikira C. Iragi, Justin B. Munyakazi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We design and analyse two numerical methods namely a fitted mesh and a fitted operator finite difference methods for solving singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equations. The fitted mesh method we propose is constructed using a finite difference operator to approximate the derivative part and some suitably chosen quadrature rules for the integral part. To obtain a parameter-uniform convergence, we use a piecewise-uniform mesh of Shishkin type. On the other hand, to construct the fitted operator method, the Volterra integro-differential equation is discretised by introducing a fitting factor via the method of integral identity with the use of exponential basis function …

Estimation Of Kiw Parameters In Presence Of S-Spalt: Bayesian And Non Bayesian Approach, Rashad M. El-Sagheer, Nagwa M. Mohamed

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this article, based on progressively Type-II censored schemes under step-stress partially accelerated life test model, the maximum likelihood, Bayes, and two parametric bootstrap methods are used for estimating the unknown parameters of the Kumaraswamy inverse Weibull distribution and the acceleration factor. Asymptotic confidence interval estimates of the model parameters and the acceleration factor are also evaluated by using Fisher information matrix. The classical Bayes estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form, so Markov chain Monte Carlo method is used to tackle this problem, which allows us to construct the credible interval of the involved parameters. Finally, analysis of a …

A Conserved Linearization Approach For Solving Nonlinear Oscillation Problems, Sıla O. Korkut, Nurcan Gucuyenen Kaymak, Gamze Tanoglu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Nonlinear oscillation problems are extensively used in engineering and applied sciences. Due to non-availability of the analytic solutions, numerical approaches have been used for these equations. In this study, a numerical method which is based on Newton-Raphson linearization and Fr´echet derivative is suggested. The convergence analysis is also studied locally. The present method is tested on three examples: damped oscillator, Van-der Pol equation and Schr¨odinger equation. It is shown that the obtained solutions via the present method are more accurate than those of the well-known second order Runge-Kutta method. When examining the present method, preservation of characteristic properties of these …

Stochastic Second-Order Cone Programming: The Equivalent Convex Program, Mohammad Alabed Alhadi, Baha Alzalg

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The two-stage stochastic second-order cone programming (SSOCP) has been recently introduced in [Appl. Math. Model. 63, 5122–5134 (2012)] to cover a lot of important applications that cannot be captured by the two-stage stochastic linear programming (SLP). Wets [SIAM J. Applied Math. 14, 89–105 (1966)] described and characterized the equivalent convex program of the two-stage SLP. There is no work discussing the equivalent convex program of the two-stage SSOCP. The purpose of this short paper is to describe and characterize the equivalent convex program of the SSOCP problem. We first discuss the properties of the solution set of the SSOCP, and then …
