Joint Frequency Offset And Channel Estimation For Distributed Mimo In Time-Varying Channels, Lijun Song, Zhaofu Kong, Yang Luo, Yinze Li, Xiao Chen, Xia Lei
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, the joint estimation of frequency offsets and channel for distributed MIMO system in time-varying channel is discussed. We assume that each pair of transmit and receive antennas has a different frequency offset. We promote the multi-parameter estimation based on expectation conditional maximization (ECM) and space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) for a MIMO system operating under a flat-fading environment to the multi-parameter estimation using EM algorithm for distributed MIMO systems in time-varying channel. Theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the improvement can well compensate for the performance loss caused by time-variability and achieve good performance for time-varying distributed …
Analysis Of A Scheduler For Virtualization Of Links With Performance Isolation, Andrzej Chydzinski, Blazej Adamczyk
Analysis Of A Scheduler For Virtualization Of Links With Performance Isolation, Andrzej Chydzinski, Blazej Adamczyk
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we deal with a scheduling algorithm that creates several virtual links on one physical link by switching the service between the virtual links. The switching is done in such a way that the physical link is available for each virtual link for a constant time, what provides full performance isolation between virtual links. Firstly, we present a detailed analysis of the scheduler, including formulas for the queue sizes associated with virtual links and their packet loss ratios. Then we show numerical examples of performance characteristics of created virtual links. We also compare them with adequate non-virtual links …

Classical And Quasi-Newton Methods For A Meteorological Parameters Prediction Boundary Value Problem, Ioannis Famelis, Georgios Galanis, Matthias Ehrhardt
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We study the numerical solution of a Boundary Value problem for second order quadratic differential equations which arises in the numerical prediction of meteorological parameters. In the present work, we use finite differences and focus on the numerical solution of the resulting nonlinear system. More precisely, we apply classical Newton’s and Quasi-Newton methods paying attention to the special sparse form of the Jacobian matrix and modify appropriately the LU factorization in order to reduce significantly the required floating point operations. Furthermore, we implement and study in depth the behavior of all the proposed procedures in respect of their accuracy, stability …

Generalised Neutrosophic Soft Set And Its Integration To Decision Making Problem, Rıdvan Şahin, Ahmet Küçük
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In 1999, Molodtsov [5] introduced the concept of soft set theory, which can be used as a generic mathematical tool for dealing with uncertainty. In this paper, we first generalise the concept of neutrosophic sof set defined by Maji [20].We then study basic operations on the generalised neutrosophic soft set. We finally present an application of generalised neutrosophic soft set in decision making problem.

Characterizing Microwave Power In A Mpcvd System Using Gaussian Mixture Modeling, Jen-Hsiang Chou, Chih-Ming Hsu, Shun-Yuan Wang, Chii-Ruey Lin, June-Yen Jhuang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (MPCVD) can be used to grow various kinds of diamond films and carbon nanotubes at various temperatures. Issues concerning plasma modeling and control play an important role in MPCVD systems. One crucial factor in controlling the plasma shape and position is the tunable reflected microwave power of the MPCVD system. However, modeling the tunable reflected power is highly complex and remains a poorly developed. In this paper, the microwave power distribution corresponding to the adjustable electromagnetic field is modeled by 2-D Gaussian Mixture Modeling (GMM). The simulations using the model show that microwave power data …

Analyzing Consumers’ Decisions To Select Micro- Invasive Aesthetic Service Providers Using A Hybrid Method, Fan-Yun Pai
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Micro-invasive aesthetic services are becoming more popular, and thus the industry is becoming more competitive. It is thus critical for companies to better understand the criteria that consumers use when choosing a micro-invasive aesthetic service provider. In order to investigate this issue, three focus group interviews were carried out in this study and the related literature was reviewed in order to find the relevant criteria. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) was then employed to find casual relationships among the criteria, while the Analytic Network Process (ANP) was further applied to evaluate the importance of each criterion. After …

Development Of Simulation Task Unit Model Based On Role And State Mode, Zhiteng Wang, Hongjun Zhang, Rui Zhang, Yong Li, Youliang Zhang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Currently, service-oriented model and simulation has become a main development direction for modeling and simulation. In order to separate the simulation service and state and effectively reuse simulation resources, this paper proposed a simulation task unit (STU) model method based on role and state mode, in which role could call the simulation service by simulation member and the state value of simulation service could be saved in the state of role. This paper also analyzed the relations among role, state and logic, and described the simulation member model and simulation task model in detail. Besides, an STU model tool was …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the present paper, we have continued to study the properties of soft topological spaces. We introduce new types of soft compactness based on the soft ideal ? I, in a soft topological space (X,t ,E) namely, soft ? I-compactness, soft semi- ? I-compactness, soft countably- ? I-compactness and soft countably semi- ? I-compactness. Also, several of their topological properties are investigated. The behaviour of these concepts under various types of soft functions has obtained.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
With the increasing development and growth of Web services on the World Wide Web, the demand of appropriate Web service selection approaches are unprecedentedly strong, and Quality-of-Service (QoS) based service computing is becoming an important issue of service-oriented computing. In most of previous works, the QoS values of services to users are all conceived to be known, however, lots of them are unknown in practice application. Recently, lots of literatures aiming at predicting such missing QoS values are published, they all consider the unknown QoS values prediction as a fundamental step for the QoS-based service computing. Looking through existing works, …

Hfm: Hybrid File Mapping Algorithm For Ssd Space Utilization, Jaechun No, Soo-Mi Choi, Sung-Soon Park, Cheol-Su Lim
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Although the technology of flash memory is rapidly improving, SSD usage is still limited due to the high cost per storage capacity. An alternative is to construct the hybrid structure where a small SSD partition is combined with the large HDD partition, to expand the file system space to HDD storage capacity while exploiting the performance advantage of SSD. In such a hybrid structure, increasing the space utilization of SSD partition is the critical aspect in generating high I/O performance. In this paper, we present HFM (Hybrid File Mapping) that has been implemented for the hybrid file system integrated with …

Some Aggregation Operators With Intuitionistic Trapezoid Fuzzy Linguistic Information And Their Applications To Multi-Attribute Group Decision Making, Yanbing Ju, Shanghong Yang, Aihua Wang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We study the multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems in which the attribute values provided by the decision makers take the form of intuitionistic trapezoid fuzzy linguistic (ITrFL) information considering the uncertainty and inaccuracy of input arguments. Some new aggregation operators called intuitionistic trapezoid fuzzy linguistic weighted average (ITrFLWA), intuitionistic trapezoid fuzzy linguistic ordered weighted average (ITrFLOWA) and intuitionistic trapezoid fuzzy linguistic hybrid weighted average (ITrFLHWA) operators are proposed at first. Then, we study some desirable properties of the proposed operators, such as monotonicity, idempotency, commutativity and boundedness. Next, two novel approaches based on the proposed operators are developed to …

A Switching Approach To Avoid Breakdown In Lanczos-Type Algorithms, Muhammad Farooq, Abdellah Salhi
A Switching Approach To Avoid Breakdown In Lanczos-Type Algorithms, Muhammad Farooq, Abdellah Salhi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Lanczos-type algorithms are well known for their inherent instability. They typically breakdown when relevant orthogonal polynomials do not exist. Current approaches to avoiding breakdown rely on jumping over the non-existent polynomials to resume computation. This jumping strategy may have to be used many times during the solution process. We suggest an alternative to jumping which consists in switching between different algorithms that have been generated using different recurrence relations between orthogonal polynomials. This approach can be implemented as three different strategies: ST1, ST2, and ST3.We shall briefly recall how Lanczos-type algorithms are derived. Four of the most prominent such algorithms …

Optimization Of A Dish Cart Storage Using The Two-Dimensional Single Bin Packing Problem, Kang-Hee Lee, A-Ra Khil
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Given a set of rectangular items such as dishes, cups, saucers, or forks and a rectangular shelf of a dish cart, the twodimensional single bin packing problem (2D-BPP) involves orthogonally packing a subset of the items within the shelf such that the sum of the values of the packed items is maximized. If the value of an item is given by its area, the objective is to maximize the covered area of the shelf. Thus, this paper aims to optimize the transport capacity of a serving robot carrying a dish cart. This experiment, the first of its type, proves the …
Fast Evaluation Of Scattering Oscillatory Integrals Over Fan-Shaped Regions, Jianbing Li, Tao Wang, Xuesong Wang
Fast Evaluation Of Scattering Oscillatory Integrals Over Fan-Shaped Regions, Jianbing Li, Tao Wang, Xuesong Wang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Oscillatory integrals over fan-shaped regions widely exist in scattering analysis, and this paper proposes a new rapid calculation routine for them. In the routine, the concerned bivariate scattering oscillatory integral is reduced to the calculation of two univariate oscillatory integrals. One is calculated with the improved Levin quadrature method, and another is transformed to a non-oscillatory integral that can be stably and accurately calculated with the Gauss-Chebyshev integration rule. Numerical examples show that the newly proposed method has the merits of being very accurate and efficient.

Robust Detection And Tracking Algorithm Of Multiple Objects In Complex Scenes, Hong-Yu Hu, Zhao-Wei Qu, Zhi-Hui Li, Qing-Nian Wang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Detection and tracking of multiple targets in complex environment with an uncalibrated CCD camera is developed in this paper. 1) A background initialization algorithm based on clustering is presented. All stable non-overlapping intervals in the temporal training sequence of each pixel are located as possible backgrounds by slip window; then the background interval is obtained from the classified data set of possible backgrounds by unsupervised clustering. 2) Moving multi-targets are tracked through integration of the motion and shape features by Kalman filter model. In order to ensure the continuity and the stabilization, occlusion processing is performed. The proposed approach is …

Mathematical Analysis Of The Transmission Dynamics Of Hiv/Aids: Role Of Female Sex Workers, Navjot Kaur, Mini Ghosh, S. S. Bhatia
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The transmission of ’Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)’ that causes the ‘Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)’ is strongly associated with un-protected sex and at the present understanding this epidemic can reach higher prevalence threshold level when there are extensive sexual contacts between the sex workers and general population. In the present work, we investigate a nonlinear model for studing the transmission dynamics of HIV/AIDS epidemic with emphasis on the role of female sex workers. Here, we consider only the heterosexual transmissions of HIV/AIDS and formulate the mathematical model by dividing the total adult population under consideration into three different classes: male, female …

Securing Databases By Using Diagonal-Based Order Preserving Symmetric Encryption, Santi Mart?Nez, Josep M. Miret, Rosana Tom?S, Magda Valls
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The amount of information stored in databases is constantly increasing. Databases contain multiple records, each of them divided in several data fields. And some of these fields may contain sensitive information, so there is a need to prevent free access to it. Traditionally, cryptography has been used to conceal this kind of information, but conventional cryptography has the problem that, for queries that need access to a specific field for all the records, it requires the decryption of the entire data field. Order preserving encryption ensures that comparing encrypted data returns the same result than comparing the original data. This …

A New Approach To The Quadrature Rules With Gaussian Weights And Nodes, Giuliana Criscuolo, Salvatore Cuomo
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
To compute integrals on bounded or unbounded intervals we propose a new numerical approach by using weights and nodes of the classical Gauss quadrature rules. An account of the error and the convergence theory is given for the proposed quadrature formulas which have the advantage of reducing the condition number of the linear system arising when applying Nystr¨om methods to solve integral equations. Numerical examples confirming the theoretical results are provided to illustrate the accuracy of the introduced method.

The Inventory Models For Deteriorating Items In The Discounted Cash-Flows Approach Under Conditional Trade Credit And Cash Discount In A Supply Chain System, Kun-Jen Chung, Shy-Der Lin, H. M. Srivastava
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Yang [20] studies a deteriorating inventory model in which the supplier simultaneously offers the retailer either a conditional delay in payments or a cash discount. While considering the same inventory problem as that of Yang [20] in a systematic manner, the main purpose of this paper is twofold: First of all, since Yang [20] does not seem to have defined his inventory problem precisely, this paper aims at remodeling this inventory problem from different viewpoints in order to derive formulations for APV(T), that is, the present value of all future cash flows, so that researchers and practitioners can understand the …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Inspired by the very recent work by Noor and Noor [9] and given a closed convex set-valued mapping C, we propose a split algorithm for solving the problem of finding an element x∗ which is a zero of a given maximal monotone operator T such that its image, Ax∗, under a linear operator, A, is in a closed convex set C(x∗). Then, we present two strong convergence results and state some examples as applications. The ideas and techniques of this paper may motivate the readers to discover some novel and innovative applications of the implicit split feasibility problems in various …

Optimum Design Of Parallelogram Five-Bar Manipulator For Dexterous Workspace By Using Elemaef In Differential Evolution, Miguel G. Villarreal-Cervantes, Daniel De La Cruz-Muci?O, Edgar A. Portilla-Flores
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The kinematic design of mechanism is an important stage in the design methodology. A dexterous workspace for a manipulator is an outstanding characteristic that must be considered in it. Hence, a mono-objective constraint optimization problem (MOCOP) for the kinematic design of a manipulator with three revolute joints (3R robot), that fulfils a defined dexterous workspace, is formulated. The MOCOP is solved by proposing a mechanism in the differential evolution (DE) algorithm called exhaustive local exploitation mechanism with adaptive scale factor (ELEMAEF). This mechanism exhaustively exploits a local region in the search space with the information of the base and the …

A Study Of A Fractional-Order Cholera Model, Mohammad Javidi, Bashir Ahmad
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this work, we investigate the dynamical behavior of a fractional order cholera model. All the feasible equilibria for the system are obtained and the conditions for the existence of interior equilibrium are determined. Local stability analysis of the cholera model is studied by using the fractional Routh-Hurwitz stability conditions. Our results indicate the potential of fractional-order cholera models to cope with modern epidemics.
