A Dependable Computing In Database For Managing Mass Connection Systems, Chung-Yang Chen, Wen-Lung Tsai Jan 2015

A Dependable Computing In Database For Managing Mass Connection Systems, Chung-Yang Chen, Wen-Lung Tsai

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Most operations in database (DB) is based on the deferred update replication technique, especially in distributed environments. In deferred update replication, transactions are executed on a single host and broadcast to other hosts at commit time. Upon delivering a transaction, each host confirms it to ensure a globally serializable execution. The mechanism is subject to CAP theorem in order to ensure data consistency and availability. This paper proposes a dependable cache query mechanism in distributed relational database (DRDB). The key insight of the cache query mechanism provides high performance, strong consistency and availability for mass connection systems. In addition to …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we consider a very useful and significant class of convex sets and convex functions that is relative convex sets and relative convex functions which was introduced and studied by Noor [20]. Several new inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type for relative convex functions are established using different approaches. We also introduce relative h-convex functions and is shown that relative h-convex functions include Noor relative convex functions as special cases. Results obtained in this paper may inspire future research in convex analysis and related optimization fields.

Entire Labeling Of Plane Graphs, Martin Bača, Stanislav Jendroī, Kumarappan Kathiresan, Kadarkarai Muthugurupackiam

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

A face irregular entire k-labeling j : V ∪E ∪F →{1,2, . . . , k} of a 2-connected plane graph G = (V,E,F) is a labeling of vertices, edges and faces of G in such a way that for any two different faces f and g their weights wj ( f ) and wj (g) are distinct. The weight of a face f under a k-labeling j is the sum of labels carried by that face and all the edges and vertices incident with the face. The minimum k for which a plane graph G has a face irregular …

An Efficient Numerical Scheme For Coupled Nonlinear Burgers’ Equations, Maryam Sarboland, Azim Aminataei

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, coupled nonlinear Burgers’ equations are solved through a variety of meshless methods known as multiquadric quasi-interpolation scheme. In this scheme, the extension of univariate quasi-interpolation method is used to approximate the unknown functions and their spatial derivatives and the Taylor series expansion is used to discretize the temporal derivatives. The multiquadric quasi-interpolation scheme is a one-dimensional method that can be extend to the two-dimensional by converting to a compact form and using of a tensor product scheme. The method is tested on three experiments to show the efficiency and accuracy of it. Also, we demonstrate the validity …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Portfolio selection (optimization) problem is a very important and widely researched problem in the areas of finance and economy. Literature review shows that many methods and heuristics were applied to this hard optimization problem, however, there are only few implementations of swarm intelligence metaheuristics. This paper presents artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm applied to the cardinality constrained mean-variance (CCMV) portfolio optimization model. By analyzing ABC metaheuristic, some deficiencies such as slow convergence to the optimal region, were noticed. In this paper ABC algorithm improved by hybridization with the firefly algorithm (FA) is presented. FA’s search procedure was incorporated into the …

Differential Geometry On Su(N): Left And Right Invariant Vector Fields And One-Forms, Seyed Javad Akhtarshenas

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper we provide an analytical procedure for explicit calculation of the left and right invariant vector fields and oneforms on SU(N) manifold. The calculations are based on the coset parametrization of SU(N) group. The results enable us to calculate the invariant measure or Haar measure on the group. As an illustrative example, we calculate invariant vector fields and one-forms on SU(2) group.

A Vts-Based Feature Compensation Method Using Noisy Speech Hmms, Yongjoo Chung Nov 2014

A Vts-Based Feature Compensation Method Using Noisy Speech Hmms, Yongjoo Chung

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In conventional Vector Taylor Series (VTS) based noisy speech recognition methods, Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) are trained using clean speech, and the parameters of the clean speech HMM are adapted to test noisy speech, or the original clean speech is estimated from the test noisy speech. However, these approaches have a drawback in that acoustic models trained using noisy speech cannot be used in recognition. In noisy speech recognition, improved performance is generally expected by employing noisy acoustic models produced by methods such as Multi-condition Training (MTR) and Multi-Model-based Speech Recognition framework (MMSR). Motivated by this idea, a method has …

An Optimized Feature Selection Method For Breast Cancer Diagnosis In Digital Mammogram Using Multiresolution Representation, Mohamed Meselhy Eltoukhy, Ibrahima Faye

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper introduces a method for feature extraction from multiresolution representations (wavelet, curvelet) for classification of digital mammograms. The proposed method selects the features according to its capability to distinguish between different classes. The method starts with both performing wavelet and curvelet transform over mammogram images. The resulting coefficients of each image are used to construct a matrix. Each row in the matrix corresponds to an image. The most significant features, in terms of capabilities of differentiating classes, are selected. The method uses threshold values to select the columns that will maximize the difference between the different classes’representatives. The proposed method is applied …

A New Image Watermarking Scheme Using Multi- Objective Bees Algorithm, Jiann-Shu Lee, Jing-Wein Wang, Kung-Yo Giang Nov 2014

A New Image Watermarking Scheme Using Multi- Objective Bees Algorithm, Jiann-Shu Lee, Jing-Wein Wang, Kung-Yo Giang

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The optimization of watermarked image fidelity and watermark robustness is an attractive research topic in image watermarking. In this paper, we propose a new image watermarking scheme based on multi-objective bees algorithm to promote watermarking robustness as well as fidelity. In contrast with the existing genetic algorithms (GAs) based approaches utilizing single objective optimization, we treat the image watermarking as a multi-objective optimization problem. Based on this new perspective, the inherent conflict existing in image fidelity and watermark robustness for image watermarking can be objectively handled. The experimental study shows that our method indeed outperform the conventional GA-based approaches in …

Two Self-Dual Lattices Of Signed Integer Partitions, Giampiero Chiaselotti, William Keith, Paolo A. Oliverio

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper we study two self-dual lattices of signed integer partitions, D(m,n) and E(m,n), which can be considered also sub-lattices of the lattice L(m,2n), where L(m,n) is the lattice of all the usual integer partitions with at most m parts and maximum part not exceeding n. We also introduce the concepts of k-covering poset for the signed partitions and we show that D(m,n) is 1-covering and E(m,n) is 2-covering.We study D(m,n) and E(m,n) as two discrete dynamical models with some evolution rules. In particular, the 1-covering lattices are exactly the lattices definable with one outside addition rule and one …

The Research Of Multi-Point Function Opaque Predicates Obfuscation Algorithm, Yang Yubo, Fan Wenqing, Huang Wei, Xu Guoai, Yang Yixian

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

On the algorithm of code obfuscation, opaque predicate is used to confuse the judgment of the program branches to achieve complex control flow statement. Currently, there are problems of obfuscation on the opaque predicate. The first problem is the isolation. the relation between opaque predicate is relatively isolated, once an opaque predicates Boolean value is obtained, the branch flow will always be identified; Second is the reversible, an attacker can determine the opaque predicate the Boolean value by analyzing reversible slicing attacks. In this paper, we proposed multi-point function opaque predicate obfuscation algorithm, using multi-function features makes opaque predicates interdependent …

Cloud Model And Tolerance Granular Space-Based Image Retrieval Methods, Jiucheng Xu, Jinyu Ren, Lin Sun, Tianhe Xu Nov 2014

Cloud Model And Tolerance Granular Space-Based Image Retrieval Methods, Jiucheng Xu, Jinyu Ren, Lin Sun, Tianhe Xu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In the existing tolerance granular space models, grid points in each layer are established only taking space position into account, which ignore uncertainties of image texture, such as randomness, fuzziness and relevance. As a matter of fact, it is very important to extract grid points for constructing tolerance granular space, which are tolerance granules’ position or center. Therefore, it is very meaningful for the accurate texture feature-description of images to extract grid points well. To address this issue, we firstly apply cloud model to extracting grid points, and establish two new tolerance granular space models. Then, similarity measures based on …

An Exponential Entropy-Based Hybrid Ant Colony Algorithm For Vehicle Routing Optimization, Chengming Qi, Ping Li

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Vehicle routing problem(VRP) is important combinatorial optimization problems which have received considerable attention in the last decades. The optimization of vehicle routing problem is a well-known research problem in the logistics distribution. In order to overcome the prematurity of Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA) for logistics distribution routing optimization, a hybrid algorithm combining improved ACA with Iterated Local Search (ILS) is proposed. The proposed algorithm adjusts the pheromone trail to balance the convergence rate and diversification of solutions self-adaptively. The exponential entropy is used to control the path selection and pheromone updating strategy. Combining with ILS is to avoid local best …

Attribute-Based Server-Aided Verification Signature, Zhiwei Wang, Ruirui Xie, Shaohui Wang Nov 2014

Attribute-Based Server-Aided Verification Signature, Zhiwei Wang, Ruirui Xie, Shaohui Wang

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Attribute based signature (ABS) is a novel cryptographic primitive, which enables a party to sign messages for any predicate satisfied by their attributes. However, heavy computational cost is required during the verification procedure in most existing ABS schemes, which may need many pairing operations. Pairings are costly operation when compared to exponentiation in the base group. As a result, this presents a greatly challenge for resource-limited users, such as smart cards and wireless sensor. In other words, verification can hardly be done in these devices if attribute based signature is employed. We solve this problem by proposing a new notion …

Shock-Waves And Other Solutions To The Sharma- Tasso-Olver Equation With Lie Point Symmetry And Travelling-Waves Approach, B. S. Ahmed, R. M. Morris, E. V. Krishnan, P. G. L. Leach, Anjan Biswas

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper addresses the Sharma-Tasso-Olver equation from an integrability perspective. There are three integration tools that are applied to extract the solutions to this nonlinear evolution equation. The ansatz method is applied to the generalised equation with power-law nonlinearity to obtain shock-wave solutions. Subsequently, the traveling-wave hypothesis leads to another set of solutions in the complex domain. Finally, Lie symmetry analysis leads to a third set of solutions. Several constraint conditions emerge from the various analyses.

On The Relation Between Outage Probability And Effective Frequency Diversity Order, Yongjune Kim, Minjoong Rim, Xianglan Jin, Dae-Woon Lim Nov 2014

On The Relation Between Outage Probability And Effective Frequency Diversity Order, Yongjune Kim, Minjoong Rim, Xianglan Jin, Dae-Woon Lim

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, the relation between the outage probability and the effective frequency diversity order will be investigated. If the number of nonzero elements in power delay profile (PDP) is two, there is one-to-one correspondence between the outage probability and the effective frequency diversity order. On the other hand, if the number of nonzero elements in PDP is greater than two, the effective frequency diversity order provides the upper and lower bounds on the outage probability rather than the exact outage probability. Also, the effective frequency diversity order and the outage probability of cyclic delay diversity (CDD) schemes will be …

I/O Conformance Test Generation With Colored Petri Nets, Jing Liu, Xinming Ye, Jiantao Zhou, Xiaoyu Song

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper explores Input-Output Conformance (IOCO) test generation with Colored Petri Nets (CPN). A test generation oriented CPN model and CPN based IOCO relation is proposed. Feasible test cases are generated by model simulation with the proof of its soundness. The method integrates the merits the IOCO testing theory and the CPN modeling synergistically, and is applied as a nontrivial and competent test case generation approach for practical testing projects. The effectiveness of this test generation approach is demonstrated by a concrete software system. Since the model simulation based test generation process is irrespective with the model size, the effectiveness …

Numerical Robustness In Geometric Computation: An Expository Summary, Gang Mei, John C. Tipper, Nengxiong Xu Nov 2014

Numerical Robustness In Geometric Computation: An Expository Summary, Gang Mei, John C. Tipper, Nengxiong Xu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper attempts to present an expository summary on the numerical non-robustness issues in geometric computation. We try to give the answers to two questions: (1) why numerical non-robustness issues occur in geometric computing, and (2) how to deal with them in practice. We first describe the theoretical causes of the problematic robustness behaviors, and then present several popular and practical solutions to the non-robustness problem. Note that these algorithm-specific or general solutions are only part of the existing efforts to attack the numerical robustness problem, but are quite useful in practical applications. Additionally, geometric examples and sample codes are …

Inter-Temporal Optimal Asset Allocation And Time-Varying Risk Aversion, Honglin Yang, Penglan Fang, Hong Wan, Yong Zha Nov 2014

Inter-Temporal Optimal Asset Allocation And Time-Varying Risk Aversion, Honglin Yang, Penglan Fang, Hong Wan, Yong Zha

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The inter-temporal optimal decision is related to investors risk preference. In this study, we analyze the optimal asset allocation over investment horizon of invariable risk preference indicated by constant risk aversion. To capture dynamic property of risk aversion, we relax the assumption of constant risk aversion and formulate a time-varying function in response to the impacts of time and wealth. Our general decision model built on time-varying risk aversion allows us to further investigate the inter-temporal optimal asset allocation. The numerical evidences from the model show that the optimal allocation of risky assets in portfolios is significantly related to investors …

Intelligent Decision Support For New Product Development: A Consumer-Oriented Approach, Yang-Cheng Lin, Chun-Chih Chen, Chung-Hsing Yeh

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper presents a consumer-oriented design approach to determine the optimal form design of characteristic toys that best matches consumers’ preferences. The consumer-oriented design approach is based on the process of Kansei Engineering using neural networks (NNs) and the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The NN model is used to build a design decision support database, and then an NN-based TOPSIS decision support model is used to enable product designers to obtain the optimal design alternatives that best meet consumers’ preferences for a new characteristic toy design.

A Necessary Condition For The Security Of Coherent- One-Way Quantum Key Distribution Protocol, Mhlambululi Mafu, Adriana Marais, Francesco Petruccione Nov 2014

A Necessary Condition For The Security Of Coherent- One-Way Quantum Key Distribution Protocol, Mhlambululi Mafu, Adriana Marais, Francesco Petruccione

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The coherent-one-way and the differential-phase-shift protocols are two of the most recent practical quantum key distribution protocols for quantum cryptography. These protocols belong to a class of so-called distributed-phase-reference quantum key distribution protocols. While security proofs for some limited attacks exist, the unconditional security proofs this class of protocol remain unrealised. The existing tools for proving security of protocols against the most general attacks fail to apply to this class of protocol in a straight forward way. One of the necessary conditions for a quantum key distribution protocol to be secure is the presence of noncommuting measurements. In this paper, …

Towards Secure Data Exchange In Peer-To-Peer Data Management Systems, Sk. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Mehedi Masud, Ali N M Noman, Atif Alamri, Mohammad Mehedi Hassan Nov 2014

Towards Secure Data Exchange In Peer-To-Peer Data Management Systems, Sk. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Mehedi Masud, Ali N M Noman, Atif Alamri, Mohammad Mehedi Hassan

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In a peer-to-peer data management system (P2PDMS) peers exchange data in a pair-wise fashion on-the-fly in response to user queries without any centralized control. When peers exchange highly confidential data over an insecure communication channel, the data might be intercepted and read by intruders. As there is no centralized control for data exchange among peers in a P2PDMS, we cannot assume any central third party security infrastructure (e.g. PKI) to protect confidential data. This paper proposes a security protocol for data exchange in P2PDMSs based on pairing-based cryptography and data exchange policy. The protocol allows the peers to compute their …

An Optimization Algorithm For Solving Systems Of Singular Boundary Value Problems, Zaer Abo-Hammour, Omar Abu Arqub, Othman Alsmadi, Shaher Momani Nov 2014

An Optimization Algorithm For Solving Systems Of Singular Boundary Value Problems, Zaer Abo-Hammour, Omar Abu Arqub, Othman Alsmadi, Shaher Momani

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, an optimization algorithm is presented for solving systems of singular boundary value problems. In this technique, the system is formulated as an optimization problem by the direct minimization of the overall individual residual error subject to the given constraints boundary conditions, and is then solved using continuous genetic algorithm in the sense that each of the derivatives is replaced by an appropriate difference quotient approximation. Two numerical experiments are carried out to verify the mathematical results, and the theoretical statements for the solutions are supported by the results of numerical experiments.Meanwhile, the statistical analysis is provided in …
