An Alternative Solution Technique Of The Jit Lot-Splitting Model For Supply Chain Management, Kun-Jen Chung, Tien-Yu Lin, H. M. Srivastava

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Recently, Kim and Ha [S.-L. Kim and D. Ha, A JIT lot-splitting model for supply chain management: Enhancing buyersupplier linkage, Internat. J. Prod. Econ. 86 (2003), 1–10] proposed a model to determine the optimal order quantity, the number of shipments and size delivered over a finite planning horizon in a JIT single-buyer and single-supplier scenario. Kim and Ha’s model is interesting. However, their solution procedure and some theoretical results may not be generally true. In this paper, we propose an analytical solution procedure free from using convexity to correct and improve on Kim and Ha’s model. Some flaws shown in …

A Class Of Extended One-Step Methods For Solving Delay Differential Equations, F. Ibrahim, A. A. Salama, S. Turek

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we derive a class of extended one-step methods of order m for solving delay-differential equations. This class includes methods of fourth and fifth order of accuracy. Also, the class of these methods depends on two free parameters. A convergence theorem and convergence factor of these methods are given. Stability regions for such methods are determined in terms of the time-lag t . Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the numerical schemes.

Modeling Of The Selecting Optimum Cross Section Of Open Canals, E. A. Nysanov, S. D Kurakbayeva, Zh. R. Umarova, S. B. Botayeva, Z. A. Makhanova

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

we discuss the problem of selecting optimum form of the cross section of open canals with the aim of the maximum transportation at the permanent flow of viscous biphasic medium. Semielliptical, semicircular, parabolical and trapezoidal cross sections have been considered. Comparing the consumptions for various cross sections among themselves in the equal areas, we define the optimum section with maximum consumption, that is with the maximum transportation of the flow.

Towards Human-Like Bimanual Movements In Anthropomorphic Robots: A Nonlinear Optimization Approach, E. Costa E Silva, M. F. Costa, J .P. Ara?Jo, D. Machado, L. Louro, W. Erlhagen

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Previously we have presented a model for generating human-like arm and hand movements on an unimanual anthropomorphic robot involved in human-robot collaboration tasks. The present paper aims to extend our model in order to address the generation of human-like bimanual movement sequences which are challenged by scenarios cluttered with obstacles. Movement planning involves large scale nonlinear constrained optimization problems which are solved using the IPOPT solver. Simulation studies show that the model generates feasible and realistic hand trajectories for action sequences involving the two hands. The computational costs involved in the planning allow for real-time human robot-interaction. A qualitative analysis …

Conservation Of The Cylindrical And Elliptic Cylindrical K-P Equations, Joseph Boon Zik Hong, K. Fakhar, S. Ahmad, A. H. Kara

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We study the invariance properties and exact solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation and construct its conservation laws and that of its transformed elliptic and elliptic-cylindrical versions. Then, it is shown how the conservation laws and related quantities of the transformed versions may be attained by applying the transformation variables as opposed to independent calculations which are often cumbersome for high order partial differential equations of ‘many’ variables.

Kumaraswamy Modified Inverse Weibull Distribution: Theory And Application, Gokarna Aryal, Ibrahim Elbatal

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this article, we propose a generalization of the modified inverse Weibull distribution. The generalization are motivated by the recent work of Cordeiro et al. [2] and are based on the Kumaraswamy distribution. The generalized distribution is called the Kumaraswamy modified inverse Weibull(KMIW) distribution. We provide a comprehensive description of the structural properties of the subject distribution and explore some of its special cases. It will be shown that the analytical results are applicable to model real world data.

Evolution Of Translation Surfaces In Euclidean 3-Space E3, H. N. Abd-Ellah

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Geometry and kinematics have been intimately connected in their historical evolution and, although it is currently less fashionable, the further development of such connections is crucial to many computer-aided design and manufacturing. In this paper, the evolution of the translation surfaces and their generating curves in E3 are investigated. Integrability conditions of the Gauss-Weingarten equations are obtained. Kinematics of moving frame fields associated to these surfaces are described. The evolution equations of the Christoffel symbols, the second fundamental quantities and Gauss-Codazzi equations for the motion are established. Thus, the evolution equations of the curvatures in terms of their intrinsic geometric …

Solving Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem Using The Gravitational Emulation Local Search Algorithm, Ali Shokouhi Rostami, Farahnaz Mohanna, Hengameh Keshavarz, Ali Asghar Rahmani Hosseinabadi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Multiple Travelling Salesman Problem (mTSP) is one of the most popular and widely used combinatorial optimization problems in the operational research. Many complex problems can be modeled and solved by the mTSP. To solve the mTSP, deterministic algorithms cannot be used as the mTSP is an NP-hard optimization problem. Hence, heuristics approaches are usually applied. In this paper, the Gravitational Emulation Local Search (GELS) algorithm is modified to solve the symmetric mTSP. The GELS algorithm is based on the local search concept and uses two main parameters in physics, velocity and gravity. Performance of the modified GELS has been compared …

Key Management Mechanism For Authentication Security In Wireless Sensor Network, Ying Wang, Xinguang Peng, Jing Bian Mar 2015

Key Management Mechanism For Authentication Security In Wireless Sensor Network, Ying Wang, Xinguang Peng, Jing Bian

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Since the multi-user broadcast authentication protocol in current WSN cannot provide strong safety, perfect scalability and low energy consumption simultaneously. A certificateless key managing scheme based on identity is studied in this paper. The proposed method divides the broadcasting in WSN into two parts: users broadcasting and base station broadcasting. We also adopt different password schemes for system safety. At the user end, a short signature protocol is used for signature and authentication on the broadcasting packet to acquire scalability and low power consumption; at the base station end, partial message recovered Schnorr signature is adopted to protect its broadcasting. …

Monte Carlo Simplification Model For Traveling Salesman Problem, Dong Wang, Dong-Mei Lin Mar 2015

Monte Carlo Simplification Model For Traveling Salesman Problem, Dong Wang, Dong-Mei Lin

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of classical NP-hard problems in the field of combinatorial optimization. It is because of the problem complexity that almost all of the accurate computing algorithm could not find the global optimal solution (GOS) in a reasonable time. The complexity is characterized by the large number of edges in the initial edge set of TSP. By analyzing the relationship between GOS and high-quality local optimal solutions, it is found that the edge union set of some local optimal solutions could include most even all edges of GOS, and that their edge intersection could fix partial …

Analysis And Control Of A Three-Dimensional Autonomous Chaotic System, Abdollah Gholizadeh, Hassan Saberi Nik, Amin Jajarmi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a novel three-dimensional (3D) autonomous chaotic system is investigated, which displays complicated dynamical behaviors. Basic dynamical properties are analyzed by means of phase portraits and equilibria. Also, an optimal control law is designed for the novel chaotic system, based on the Pontryagin minimum principle (PMP). Furthermore, an adaptive and feedback control law is introduced to stabilize the new chaotic system with unknown parameters. The adaptive control results are established using the Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations are included to demonstrate the efficiency and high accuracy of the proposed method.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a master manipulator control system in a master-slave robot which uses trinocular stereo vision is presented. The system utilizes three real-time cameras to identify and track the movements of the master handle, while also measuring the master handle position. The system follows a basic four step process. First, within the image the master handle is identified using the contrast between the handle and the background. Second, the speed and direction of the master handle’s next position is predicted in real-time by using the Kalman filter. Third, the position of the master handle is measured in real time …

Divisible On-Line/Off-Line Proxy Re-Signature, Xiaodong Yang, Chunmei Li, Yan Li, Sian Zhou, Caifen Wang Mar 2015

Divisible On-Line/Off-Line Proxy Re-Signature, Xiaodong Yang, Chunmei Li, Yan Li, Sian Zhou, Caifen Wang

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

To improve the real-time efficiency of proxy re-signature schemes, a notion called divisible on-line/off-line proxy resignatures is introduced in this paper. The idea of this notion is to split the re-signing algorithm into two phases: the off-line and on-line phases. The proxy can perform the bulk of re-signature computation in the off-line phase before seeing the message to be re-signed. The results of this pre-computation are saved and then used in the on-line phase after the message to be re-signed is given. Divisible on-line/off-line proxy re-signatures are very useful in a particular scenario where the proxy must respond quickly once …

High Speed Motion Control System With Predictive Observer And Its Parameters Optimization, Lei Zhou, Jiangang Li, Zexiang Li, Lanhui Fu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The traditional control of high speed motion control system usually employs feedforward control to provide phase advance. In this paper, we proposed a predictive observer to compensate phase lags in the feedback loop. By employing the observer, the velocity and the position controller can be designed as for a plant does not have phase lag elements. Then, loop gains can be enlarged and motion speed can be improved. There are two sets of parameters need to be set, the controller’s and the observer’s. We applied least square algorithm for model estimation and simplex method for controller auto tuning. The algorithms …

Neural Network Pid Control Based Scheduling Mechanism For Cloud Computing, Xiaoqi Xing, Bin Liu, Dongyi Ling

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

With the progress of academia and industry, cloud computing is moving from theory to practice. Job scheduling is an important issue in the high performance cloud computing environment. An appropriate scheduling mechanism can efficiently reduce the response time and enhance the user experience. However, most of the traditional scheduling mechanisms focus on the response time or the security, and the load balancing strategy is static, which cannot satisfy the new trend of development of cloud computing. Based on the new features of multi-users and multi-tasks in the open computing environment, the paper proposes a fuzzy neural network PID (Proportional+Integral+Derivative) control …

Error Correcting Codes In Wireless Sensor Networks: An Energy Perspective, Nabil Ali Alrajeh, Umair Marwat, Bilal Shams, Syed Saddam Hussain Shah Mar 2015

Error Correcting Codes In Wireless Sensor Networks: An Energy Perspective, Nabil Ali Alrajeh, Umair Marwat, Bilal Shams, Syed Saddam Hussain Shah

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are energy constraint networks that require reliable data communication at a low cost of energy. Only one particular error correcting code (ECC) cannot be adopted for all applications and scenarios of WSNs. The use of a specific ECC depends on the requirements of the application and the constraints of the WSN. Hence it is very challenging to choose an optimum error correcting code for a WSN where both, the performance and energy consumption are taken into account. The selection of an optimum error correcting code for wireless sensor network has been widely studied by many researchers …

A Convenient Ready-To-Use Algorithm For A Conditional Quantile Estimator, Piotr Kulczycki, Małgorzata Charytanowicz, Antoni Leon Dawidowicz

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper contains a complete procedure for calculating the value of a conditional quantile estimator. The concept is based on the nonparametric kernel estimator method, which frees the algorithm from the random variables’ distributions. The procedure was worked out in a ready-to-use form – specific formulas for functions and the parameter used were given. The practical implementation of this method is very simple, and its computational complexity is linear with respect to random sample size as well as the dimension of conditioning variable. Thanks to a clear, near intuitive interpretation it can easily be modified or generalized depending on the …

A Framework And Decision Rules For Emergency Medical Service Scheduling Dss, Lu Zhen, Shaopu Sheng, Zhenhua Xie, Kai Wang Mar 2015

A Framework And Decision Rules For Emergency Medical Service Scheduling Dss, Lu Zhen, Shaopu Sheng, Zhenhua Xie, Kai Wang

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper proposes a framework of decision support system (DSS) for emergency medical service scheduling. The scheduling decision rules embedded in the DSS consider the criteria on the average response time and the percentage of the medical service requests that are responded within fifteen minute, which is usually ignored in traditional scheduling policies. The challenge in designing the DSS lies in the stochastic and dynamic nature of request arrivals, fulfillment processes, and complex traffic conditions as well as the time-dependent spatial patterns of some parameters complicate the decisions in the problem. To illustrate the proposed DSS’s usage in practice, a …

Doa Estimation For Arbitrary Four-Sensor Array Configurations Based On Three-Dimensional Sound Intensity Measurement, Jie Shi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Vector sound intensity probe can be used to determine the DOA of a sound source by measuring the three orthogonal components of the sound-intensity vector. Typical vector sound intensity probes are composed of six or four sensors with symmetric structures. Such probes, in our opinion, are still not convenient for engineering implementation. A four-sensor vector sound intensity probe with arbitrary configurations is proposed here. The flexible structure of this probe allows it easily fix in any platform. In this paper, the direction finding algorithm based on this four-sensor probe is investigated first, then the error in direction estimates caused by …

License Plate State Recognition Based On Logo Matching And State Name String Classification, Zhongyan Liang, Sanyuan Zhang, Xiuzi Ye Mar 2015

License Plate State Recognition Based On Logo Matching And State Name String Classification, Zhongyan Liang, Sanyuan Zhang, Xiuzi Ye

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In most countries, vehicle license plates contain both alphanumeric characters and the state/province of origin. State/province recognition of the license plate provides additional information to the traffic management agency and guidance information, aiding in character segmentation and in recognition. Existing methods use the character string of the state name only. Unfortunately, in some countries, the state name is too small to be captured clearly by a low-definition video camera and may also be obstructed by the license plate frame. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of license plates and propose an issuing state recognition method based on adaptive unique …
