A Novel Non-Negative Matrix Factorization Method For Recommender Systems, Mehdi Hosseinzadeh Aghdam, Morteza Analoui, Peyman Kabiri Sep 2015

A Novel Non-Negative Matrix Factorization Method For Recommender Systems, Mehdi Hosseinzadeh Aghdam, Morteza Analoui, Peyman Kabiri

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Recommender systems collect various kinds of data to create their recommendations. Collaborative filtering is a common technique in this area. This technique gathers and analyzes information on users preferences, and then estimates what users will like based on their similarity to other users. However, most of current collaborative filtering approaches have faced two problems: sparsity and scalability. This paper proposes a novel method by applying non-negative matrix factorization, which alleviates these problems via matrix factorization and similarity. Non-negative matrix factorization attempts to find two non-negative matrices whose product can well approximate the original matrix. It also imposes non-negative constraints on …

Solving Volterra Integro-Differential Equation By The Second Derivative Methods, Galina Mehdiyeva, Mehriban Imanova, Vagif Ibrahimov

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

As is known, the solution of some problems of ecology, geophysics, nuclear physics, the study of some seasonal distribution of the disease and so on, reduced to solving of integro-differential equations of higher order. Note that solving of these equations can be reduced to solving system of integro-differential equations of the first order. However, special techniques adapted to solving of equations of higher order are usually effective. So here is investigated the numerical solution of integro-differential equations of second order. Prove that there are methods specially adapted to solving of integro-differential equations of second order, which are more accurate than …

Priority-Based Divisible Load Scheduling Using Analytical Hierarchy Process, Shamsollah Ghanbari, Mohamed Othman, Mohd Rizam Abu Bakar, Wah June Leong

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The divisible load scheduling is a paradigm in the area of distributed computing. The traditional divisible load theory is based on the fact that, the communications and computations are obedient and do not cheat the algorithm. The literature of review shows that the divisible load model fail to achieve its optimal performance, if the processors do not report their true computation rates. The divisible load scheduling with uncertain communication rates has not been considered in the existing research. This problem lead us to propose a priority based divisible load scheduling method. The goal is to decrease the negative effects of …

Generating A Complex Form Of Chaotic Pan System And Its Behavior, Ahmed A. M. Farghaly

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this article we introduce a new chaotic five dimensional (5D) continuous autonomous system involving complex variables, via 3D Pan system[Pan et al 2010]. The basic dynamical properties of the new system are analyzed such as equilibrium points, eigenvalues structures, and maximal Lyapunov exponent. We propose an approach for controlling chaotic attractor of this system by adding a complex periodic forcing. Computer simulations are calculated to study the behavior of this system.

A Runge-Kutta type eighth algebraic order two-step method with phase-lag and its first, second and third order derivatives equal to zero is produced in this paper. We will also investigate how the above described elimination of the phase-lag and its derivatives effects on the efficiency of the method. More specifically we will study the following: (1) the production of the method, (2) the local truncation error of the new obtained method and a comparative local truncation error analysis using other similar methods of the literature, (3) the interval of periodicity i.e the stability of the developed method using frequency for …

On The Universality Of N-Bit Reversible Gate Libraries, Ahmed Younes Sep 2015

On The Universality Of N-Bit Reversible Gate Libraries, Ahmed Younes

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Many universal reversible libraries of gates that contain more than one gate type have been proposed in the literature. Synthesis of reversible circuits is much simpler and more practical if a single gate type is used in the circuit construction. This paper proposes a novel reversible n-bit gate that is universal for reversible circuits synthesis. The proposed gate is extendable according to the number of bits in the circuit. The paper shows that the size of the synthesized circuits using the proposed gate is comparable with the size of the synthesized circuits using the known reversible libraries of gates.

Pts And Modified Clipping Joint Algorithms For Papr Reduction In Ofdm-Qam System, Zhen He, Jianping Wang, Jing Yan, Haitao Xu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

As one of the most attractive techniques, partial transmit sequence (PTS) provides an effective solution for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, however, results in large computational complexity simultaneously. Compared to PTS, clipping provides a simpler way towards a better PAPR performance, whereas results in degradation of the bit error rate (BER) performance. In this paper, we proposed two joint algorithms called quantization clipping (QC) and recoverable clipping (RC), which combined PTS with modified Clipping schemes. The proposed schemes achieve a better exploitation of advantages, simulation results show that the proposed joint algorithms do …

New Reversible Data Hiding Scheme For Encrypted Images Using Lattices, Young-Sik Kim, Kyungjun Kang, Dae-Woon Lim

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Reversible data hiding is a technique to hide arbitrary data, without influencing the original images. In 2011, Zhang proposed a reversible data hiding scheme for encrypted images, by using a spatial correlation of the decrypted original image. Later, Hong et al. proposed an improved scheme by using side-match techniques, and modifying the correlation calculation function. In this paper, we propose an improved reversible data hiding scheme for encrypted images with lower bit error rates with the same PSNR (Peak Signalto- Noise Ratio), by introducing a lattice pattern to confine pixels to be used for embedding, and modifying the correlation calculation …

Social Recommendation With Biased Regularization, Xiang Hu, Wendong Wang, Xiangyang Gong, Bai Wang, Xirong Que, Hongke Xia

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Although recommendation systems are the most important methods for resolving the ”information overload” problem, majority of them are beset by their inherent flaws. With the recent emergence of online social networks, the increasing social information has offered opportunities to relieve these flaws. In this paper, a new matrix factorization based social recommendation method is proposed, in which social relations and the rating habit are integrated into the objective function via appending additional penalty term and bias term to classic probabilistic matrix factorization model. In order to involve more social information into traditional recommendation system, the proposed method adopt the social similarity …

Using An Oblique Projection Operator For Highly Correlated Signal Direction-Of-Arrival Estimations, Chien-Chou Lin Sep 2015

Using An Oblique Projection Operator For Highly Correlated Signal Direction-Of-Arrival Estimations, Chien-Chou Lin

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a high-resolution direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm is proposed for highly correlated signals. This algorithm is divided into two stages. In Stage 1, a high-resolution method of DOA estimation using an oblique projection operator was applied to estimate the DOA of highly correlated signals. In Stage 2, because estimations obtained in highly correlated signal environments are prone to bias, a beamspace was built near the estimated angles from Stage 1 to reduce DOA bias. Next, the oblique projection operator was used on the beamspace to determine the characteristics of the signal source DOAs on a spatial spectrum for …

Global Solvability Of A Continuous And Restricted Coagulation Process In A Moving Medium, Emile Franc Doungmo Goufo, Suares Clovis Oukouomi Noutchie Sep 2015

Global Solvability Of A Continuous And Restricted Coagulation Process In A Moving Medium, Emile Franc Doungmo Goufo, Suares Clovis Oukouomi Noutchie

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, existence and uniqueness of a global solution to continuous, non-common and non-linear convectioncoagulation equations are investigated by means of various techniques. The method of characteristics (Mizohata, 1973), substochastic methods and Kato-Voigt pertubation (Banasiak et al., 2006) are exploited to show that the linear operator (transport-coagulation ) is the infinitesimal generator of a strongly continuous semigroup. Then, uniqueness of the solution to the full nonlinear problem follows by showing that the coagulation term is globally Lipschitz, hereby addressing the problem of existence and uniqueness for the combined coagulation and transport processes.

Probabilistic Dangling References Of Imperative And Object-Oriented Multi-Core Programs, Mohamed A. El-Zawawy Sep 2015

Probabilistic Dangling References Of Imperative And Object-Oriented Multi-Core Programs, Mohamed A. El-Zawawy

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Speculative optimizers of modern compilers are designed on techniques for probabilistic static analyses of programs. For imperative and object-oriented multi-core programs, this paper focuses on the problem of revealing probabilistic dangling references. This important problem is treated in this paper via type systems. Besides being simply structured, the type systems provide suitable frameworks for proof-carrying code applications. One class of such applications is that ofmobile codes having limited resources.Using the proposed technique, each analysis case is supported by a correctness proof in the form of a type derivation. Most important concurrent constructs such as fork-join constructs, conditionally spawned cores, and …

Novel Fragile Watermarking Scheme Using An Artificial Neural Network For Image Authentication, Yu-Cheng Fan, Yu-Yao Hsu

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper presents a novel fragile watermarking scheme based on an artificial neural network (ANN). The fragile watermark is designed according to the characteristics of the original image. If the image is modified, the alteration can be detected via the fragile watermark without original image. Based on the type of alteration, we can determine what modifications have been performed. An artificial neural network is used to analyze the modifications. The experimental results show that the proposed method can detect tampering, locate where the tampering has occurred, and recognize what kind of alteration has occurred. This method has a high success …

A New Pyroelectric Sensor System For Target Detection And Recognition, Sun Qiao, Yang Wei, Zhang Wendong

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a novel method using a dynamic pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensor to detect and identification themoving target is presented. The sensor equipped with an infrared lens acts as an optical setup for this system, which is driven by a uniformly rotating device, a single detector can collect into infrared signals within a range of 360◦. The method solves the problems that improving the (PIR) sensor’s detection range will inevitably reduce the detection distance and increasing the detection distance will inevitably decrease the detection range. Experimental results show that (PIR) detector in regular running state can monitor a wide …

Two-Strain Ecoepidemic Systems: The Obligated Mutualism Case, Chiara Bosica, Alessandra De Rossi, Noemi Lucia Fatibene, Matteo Sciarra, Ezio Venturino Jul 2015

Two-Strain Ecoepidemic Systems: The Obligated Mutualism Case, Chiara Bosica, Alessandra De Rossi, Noemi Lucia Fatibene, Matteo Sciarra, Ezio Venturino

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We present a model for obligated mutualistic associations, in which two transmissible diseases are allowed to infect just one population. As the general model proves too hard to be fully analytically investigated, some special cases are analysed. Among our findings, the coexistence of the two strains does not appear possible, under the model assumptions. Furthermore, in particularly unfavorable circumstances the ecosystem may disappear. In this respect, an accurate computation of the basin of attraction of the origin is provided using novel techniques. For this obligated mutualistic system the presence of the diseases appears to be less relevant than in many …

A Comparison Of Paralindelof Type Properties In Bitopological Spaces, Hend Bouseliana, Adem Kılıçman

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

An implication of (i, j)-paralindelof spaces with (i, j)-normal and (i, j)-collectionwise normal space has been studied. We introduce the new definitions of the normal concept in bitopological setting namely (i, j, j)-normal spaces and (i, j) j-normal spaces. When the pairwise paralindelof space implies pairwise Lindelof is investigated. Furthermore, the concepts of para-m-Lindelof and m-Lindelof have been extended to bitopological setting. Also, we study the relation of (i, j)-para-m-Lindelof and (i, j)-m-Lindelof.

A Secret Sharing Scheme Based On Residue Class Ring, Selda Calkavur Jul 2015

A Secret Sharing Scheme Based On Residue Class Ring, Selda Calkavur

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

A (t,n)- threshold secret sharing scheme is a method for distributing a secret amongst a group of participants [1]. Each of participants is allocated a share of the secret. The secret can only be reconstructed when the shares are combined together [6]. In this paper, we propose a secret sharing scheme based on residue class ring Fp[x]/( f ), where p is a prime and deg( f ) = n. Then we call it a (pn −1, pn)− threshold secret sharing scheme.
