A Comparative Consideration Of Lipoprotein Distribution And Stress Response In The Mallard Duck And Man, Janice Mackay
A Comparative Consideration Of Lipoprotein Distribution And Stress Response In The Mallard Duck And Man, Janice Mackay
Honors Theses
Lipid is associated with all of the major serum protein fractions of both the mallard duck and man. however, whereas the ρ lipoproteins predominate in man with little lipo-albumin evident, according to available literature, in ducks the lipo-albumin constitutes more than half of the serum lipoproteins, and a substantial lipo-prealbumin fraction is evident. Most studies of lipo-proteins are carried out on human serum primarily for the purpose of diagnosis of abnormalities. The stress response in many animals includes a rise in serum α-globulin levels, but its physiological basis is still speculative. While a consideration of the changes in lipoprotein distribution …
New Forms Of Heterosexual Marriage And Mating, Robert Lundy
New Forms Of Heterosexual Marriage And Mating, Robert Lundy
Honors Theses
One third to one half of marriages are destined to end in a divorce court. However, in the de jure system or orders, monogamous marriage is the only accepted form with sexual behavior limited thereto. The nuclear family is the economic and residential unit. The expectation is that the marriage should last for the lifetime of the spouses, although increasingly there are provisions for exceptional cases termed failure. Other popular expectations are that the woman will be the socializing agent and the male will be the economic agent. This thesis explores the changing nature of families and marriage.

General Education And The Quality Of Human Living, Thomas J. Musial
General Education And The Quality Of Human Living, Thomas J. Musial
Perspectives (1969-1979)
Because Willis Nutting is now also my good friend and neighbor, I have had the continuing good fortune of watching him implement the precepts of his book. He has never allowed me to forget that a man is a person before he is a civic leader or an expert, and that it is therefore more sensible for educators to give priority of concern to the man himself, so that if possible he may become wise and understanding. He has convinced me that it is by no means certain that the kind of training necessary to make a man a specialist …

Enriching General Education: Seeds And Plowshares, J. W. Brinkman
Enriching General Education: Seeds And Plowshares, J. W. Brinkman
Perspectives (1969-1979)
In the years during which debate over the purpose and content of general education has raged, every conceivable bit of curricular gimmickry has been proposed and often tried. With few exceptions most of these efforts were possessed of at least one common feature- they were conventional or quasi-conventional academic, classroom or laboratory experiences. Until recently little attention was paid to the possibility of employing a broad range of non-academic experiences in the total general education component of the college program of study. What follows is a suggestion of experiences or activities of a non-academic type which could be adapted to …
The University, The Student And The Wizard Of Oz, Lynwood H. Bartley
The University, The Student And The Wizard Of Oz, Lynwood H. Bartley
Perspectives (1969-1979)
The teacher who demonstrates that choice is inevitable in the human situation and helps each student realize his responsibility to choose what he becomes, is doing an inestimable service for his students. Having become aware of this choice, the student learns that he has more control over what he sees, what he does, and how he interprets.
I do not assume that making someone aware presumes the absence of facts; I do assume the interrelation between facts. I do not want to see teaching or learning as a process move any further in the direction described by Marshall McLuhan, who …
Violence And Technology, John Humphries, Jeremy Mattson
Violence And Technology, John Humphries, Jeremy Mattson
Perspectives (1969-1979)
The level of violence varies, however, and in some societies it is considerably less than others. The reasons for this variance are hard to ascertain; but, I suspect, those reasons are of crucial importance if we are to fathom this subject.
From this view of the work of certain selected major American artists, work clustered roughly around the years 1930, 1940, and 1950, it is apparent that the artist was affected by technology, and more often than not one of the results of this influence was violence in the art. The two painters, Davis and Pollock, reflect a violence in …
On Tracking That Rarest Of Breeds, The New Humanities Teacher, Bryan Lindsay
On Tracking That Rarest Of Breeds, The New Humanities Teacher, Bryan Lindsay
Perspectives (1969-1979)
The new humanist is primarily dedicated to the task of equipping his charges with the tools for developing their own mature value systems instead of absorbing ad nauseam then puking back a la Pavlov the various introjected value systems which American education has traditionally attempted to force on its nurselings. Education in a self-enhancing and life-enhancing manner rather than indoctrination for a cog's role in the corporate state, that is the task the new humanists set for themselves.
But let's get back to the main topic: identifying the new humanities teacher and those characteristics which mark him as the "preacher …

"The Application Of Zeta Potential For The Effective Retention Of Titanium Dioxide In Chemically Modified Systems", John W. Clapp
"The Application Of Zeta Potential For The Effective Retention Of Titanium Dioxide In Chemically Modified Systems", John W. Clapp
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
This study was done to determine how to obtain maximum effective filler retention in a fiber and titanium dioxide system. Retention of fillers in a fibrous system is greatly influenced through the use of high molecular weight polymers. It was found that by using cationic and anionic polymers in the same system, a synergistic effect results which yields a higher effective retention than if either polymers were used along. Furthermore, by precisely controlling the amounts of each polymer so as to obtain the isoelectric point in zeta potential; the peak effective retention is reached.
The Role Of D-Gluconic Acid In The Regulation Of The Synthesis Of The Enzymes Of The Entner-Doudoroff Pathway In Pseudomonas Fluorescens, Steven C. Quay
The Role Of D-Gluconic Acid In The Regulation Of The Synthesis Of The Enzymes Of The Entner-Doudoroff Pathway In Pseudomonas Fluorescens, Steven C. Quay
Honors Theses
Induction of Entner-Duodoroff pathway enzymes in Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated to study the role of gluconate as a possible inducer. Glucose oxidase-deficient mutants were isolated and characterized. One of these mutants, gox-7, was deficient in particulate glucose oxidase; another mutant, gox-17, was deficient in particulate glucose and gluconate oxidase activities. Gluconate, but not glucose, induced synthesis of gluconokinase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydratase in both mutants. High constitute levels of 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-phosphogluconate aldolase were found when both mutants were grown on glucose. Growth of parent and both mutant strains on glycerol also resulted in high levels of Entner-Doudoroff pathway enzymes. It was concluded …
