Some Thoughts On Interdisciplinary Studies, Sidney F. Parham, Peter W. Graham
Some Thoughts On Interdisciplinary Studies, Sidney F. Parham, Peter W. Graham
Perspectives (1969-1979)
The vogue for interdisciplinary courses has led our more crusty and conservative colleagues to complain that such programs represent a mere repackaging of traditional courses, a process that diminishes the value the student receives from traditional courses without broadening or integrating his knowledge. Too often this criticism is just. We should like to argue that a genuinely interdisciplinary approach does not repackage but restructures knowledge in such a way that students are led to consider the nature of knowledge itself and thus, we hope, to think about their own thinking. Such reflection seems to us a decidely traditional goal of …

Anencephaly and spina bifida cystica are two of the most common severe congenital malformations consistently observed in human populations. Both represent defects in the neural tube and share a significant number of similar epidemiological associations among them, occupational class, geography, sex ratio, maternal age, year and season of the year. In anencephaly most of the brain and upper skull never form usually resulting in death within a few hours of birth. Spina bifida cystica is a malformation of the spinal cord often causing paralysis, vulnerability to infection, and early death. In 1972, Dr. J.H. Renwick presented a controversial hypothesis which …

Relation Between Use Of Lincomycin And Outgrowth Of Yeast, Howard W. Clapp
Relation Between Use Of Lincomycin And Outgrowth Of Yeast, Howard W. Clapp
Masters Theses
Introduction
The use of antibiotics has increased the average life expectancy of mankind. They have prevented and cured infectious diseases that previously terminated in death. Consequently, recovery is often prompt and complete.
Though a benefit to mankind, the use of antibiotics in the treatment of infectious disease has also been accompanied by new problems. For example, treatment of a primary infection such as a bacterial pneumonitis with a broad spectrum antibiotic, may result in the death of some of the bacteria. More than one species of bacteria, however, are often found in the infected area. If such be the situation, …
Welfare Organizations Offering Assistance To Children Attending The Battle Creek Public Schools, Donald G. Whitmill
Welfare Organizations Offering Assistance To Children Attending The Battle Creek Public Schools, Donald G. Whitmill
Masters Theses
As the concept of public education broadens, and as the importance of all experiences related to the formation of an individual's total self is realized, the public schools are seen in a new perspective. The public schools become one link, albeit an important link, in a complex, tightly interwoven chain of institutions, organizations, and individuals concerned with the education of the whole child.
The purpose of this study, therefore, is to compile a comprehensive listing of all agencies, institutions, and organizations offering assistance to children enrolled in the Battle Creek, Michigan, Public Schools. This study will make a brief statement …
