Evaluation Of Hydroxyprogesterone Acetate In The Prevention Of Canine Estrus, Kenneth B. Haas
Evaluation Of Hydroxyprogesterone Acetate In The Prevention Of Canine Estrus, Kenneth B. Haas
Masters Theses
Foreword
Thirty years ago, endocrinology was a laboratory curiosity appreciated by few veterinarians. In those rare instances when the new science escaped from the laboratory and reached the clinic, the endocrine preparations used were extremely crude and often ineffective. In the growth of endocrinology as a science, availability of pure crystalline hormones has played an essential role, and to chemical synthesis must be credited the preparations which make specific endocrine therapy possible today.
In the last two decades endocrinology has come into its own in veterinary medicine, especially in regard to sex endocrinology. But only in the last ten years …

Constant X Of The Alcoholic Personality: A Research Study On The Personality Factor In Alcoholism, Jean Carpenter
Masters Theses
Chapter I
Introduction
The problem of alcoholism is one of the oldest problems in the history of mankind. Today it ranks world-wide as a major public health problem. Yet, constructive study and research on the subject did not gain much momentum until about 1935.
With the organization of Alcoholism Anonymous in 1935, the awareness of the problem spread, fanwise, throughout the fields of religion, medicine, and psychiatry. Alcohol had once presented a baffling and seemingly unanswerable enigma. But now there was a glimmering of hope in each of these separate fields that the answers might lie within its own particular …

The First British Labor Government 1924, Donald Black
Masters Theses
Introduction
In 1924, the Labor Part, assumed control or Britain's political destinies for the first time. Although its tenure or office was brief, from February through October of that year, it marked an important milestone in the slow, unrelenting progress of democratic socialism in the British political spectrum after the conclusion of World War I. Not only did it reveal that Labor could assume its role as an effective opposition Party, but also that Labor had the capacity to govern in a difficult and perplexing era.

Masters Theses
Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background
The Problem
The problem with which this study deals, involves the question: do adult stutterers and non-stutterers differ in their ability to separate auditorily a designated sound from a background of noise?
Review of Research
Research in the field of stuttering has covered a wide area. Stutterers' metabolism has been measured, their handedness determined, and their personalities evaluated. Recently, however, the research has taken a new direction. Since the early 1950's with the development of the discipline of cybernetics, it has dealt increasingly with stuttering in terms of auditory and proprioceptive feedback, self …

Masters Theses
Preface
The following research concerns the beginnings of our national capital. Of the people who have contributed to its development, many were Americans, while others were immigrants striving for freedom in their newly established nation. To all the most important task was to find a permanent site for their national capital.
Millions of Americans have visited Washington, D. C. since 1800, leaving their beloved city with diversified ideals for its future. Dr. H. Paul Caemmerer has several quotations from famous American personalities regarding the national capital.

The Influence Of Stock Surface Properties On Grease Resistant Films, John H. Deryke
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
Introduction
One of the main problems in applying a continuous film to a fibrous surface such as paper is that coating must cover fibers that lie in every direction. This produces a relatively rough mat, with some fibers protruding. The surface of paper varies, but all papers and board have a surface configuration resembling a range of mountains. In paper, the interstices can be loaded with fillers, but with boards, fillers are not practical due to the amount necessary. Thus, in coating board with a continuous film, the surface configuration of the board is this main determining factor of the …

Chapter I
Introduction
The Study and Its Background
In educating for life adjustment in the highly technological culture existent in this country, it is necessary to recognize the role of safety education. More recognition, however, will not instill the proper attitudes, habits, and physical skills necessary for safe and healthful living. Among all the need for safety education, the operation of a motor vehicle is only one area of concern to the safety-minded. But, to the citizenry it is perhaps the most cogent concern in as much as the consequences of unsafe acts involving use of the motor vehicle are …

Gladstone, The Irish Home Rule Question, And Its Effect On The Liberal Party, Kenneth John Van Dellen
Gladstone, The Irish Home Rule Question, And Its Effect On The Liberal Party, Kenneth John Van Dellen
Masters Theses
Introduction
Purpose
The Victorian Age of English history produced many great political leaders. Among the best known are Chamberlain, Disreali, Palmerston, Salisbury, and Gladstone. These politicians were able to pacify many dissatisfied groups and produce many reforms. Yet one of the biggest problems they had to face was left unsolved throughout the Victorian period, and the later Edwardian period as well. This problem was Ireland.
This research project will deal with the man who made one of the most persistent efforts of the nineteenth century to solve the Irish problem. It will attempt to show how William Ewart Gladstone become …
Description Of Elements Of The Life Cycle Of A New Species Of Leucochloridiomorpha (Trematode: Brachylaemidae) From Southwestern Michigan, Jon Shoemaker
Masters Theses
Introduction
During the period extending from September, 1959 to July, 1960, 553 snails, of the species Campeloma decisum, were collected from Portage Creek in the southeast corner of the SE 1/4, Sec. 34, T. 2 S., R. 11 W., Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Metacercariae, closely related to Leucochloridiomorpha constantiae of the monotypic genus, Leucohloridiomorpha, were found in the uteri of several snails. Subsequent studies showed the metacercariae to be an undescribed species. Life history studies showed that this form developed experimentally in the chicken and domestic duck. In this paper stages in the life cycle are described.

A Survey To Determine The Attitudes And Opinions Of Young People Toward A Career In Supermarket Management, William O. Haynes
Masters Theses
Introduction
One of the most notable developments on the business scene over the past thirty years has been the development of the distribution marvel - the supermarket industry. This phenomenal industry, born in the depths of the great depression of the thirties, has captivated the American people and is fast spreading around the world. The impact of this truly American institution has influenced other forms of retailing which now pattern their operations technique on this system of mass low-cost retailing.

Beliefs And Attitudes Of Recent High School Graduates On The Subject Of Beverage Alcohol, Francis E. Chape
Masters Theses
Introduction
During recent years, many investigations concerning the teen-ager and beverage alcohol have been carried out. A survey of the available literature on this subject revealed that most of the studies have been made to determine the attitudes toward drinking and the drinking behavior of this age group. These studies, Maddox1 states, provide "The basis for generalizations about drinking in high school which are more substantial than impressionistic guesses."
Generalizations, however, have not been limited to drinking behavior alone. Alcohol education programs, required by law in every state in the union,2 have received much criticism in recent times. …

A Follow-Up Study Of Western Michigan University Graduates With Majors In Industrial Arts, Richard Duane Murphy
Masters Theses
Chapter I
Introduction
One of the major premises of education is that programs must be constantly exposed to evaluation. One of the means implementing such evaluation is the use of a follow-up study. By using the results of such a study, the institution can keep its program in step with the best educational theory and practice.
