Identification Of Long-Tenure Hourly Factory Workers Using A Weighted Application Blank, Joffrey Michael Dornon Aug 1966

Identification Of Long-Tenure Hourly Factory Workers Using A Weighted Application Blank, Joffrey Michael Dornon

Masters Theses

A cursory examination of employment application blanks, so commonly used in modern business, reveals that two kinds of data are normally requested of a job applicant. The first kind of data are items necessary for the identification of the prospective employee: name, age, sex, address, and so on to the extent permissible and required by existing law and customary personnel administration procedures.

The use of the second kind of data contained in application blanks is seldom explicitly stated but is assumed to be of greater importance for personnel selection decisions. Information regarding previous job history, hobbies, and related activities and …

Evaluation Of An Inservice Training Program For Psychiatric Attendants, Homer D. Green Mar 1966

Evaluation Of An Inservice Training Program For Psychiatric Attendants, Homer D. Green

Masters Theses

Introduction

From the time that hospitals were established to care for the mentally ill, a shortage of professional personnel has existed. To a limited extent this shortage has been partially alleviated by the use of non-professional psychiatric help (attendants, aides, nursing assistants, technicians) with varying amounts of training and responsibilities. For over fifty years a continuous effect has been made to improve the quality and quantity of care given to the mental patients in both private and public mental hospitals (Robinson, 1964). Following World War II, increased emphasis has been placed on the training and status of the attendant engaged …

The Prediction Of Trainee Success In Manpower Development And Training Programs, Donald A. Sommerfeld Feb 1966

The Prediction Of Trainee Success In Manpower Development And Training Programs, Donald A. Sommerfeld

Masters Theses

Introduction

This study is a direct result of the investigator's three-year exposure to the problems of selection and placement under the Manpower Development and Training Act (MDTA). From July 1962 until June 1965 the investigator was employed as a Personnel Methods Technician for the Michigan Employment Security Commission in Muskegon, Michigan. In this capacity he wrote the initial proposals for Muskegon's MDTA programs during this period. He also implemented the selection of trainees and the placement of graduates for each of twenty MDTA programs. During this time approximately seven hundred trainees were selected for these Muskegon training programs. The cost …

Fostering A Healthy Self Image In The Young Child, Carolyn Houdek Jan 1966

Fostering A Healthy Self Image In The Young Child, Carolyn Houdek

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

How do we learn? Modern psychologists have discovered that the self concept or image we hold is so important that it conditions nearly everything we say and do. The self concept or self image acts very much like a quota for an individual. What a person believes about himself establishes limits as to what he can and will do. It is the writer's purpose to examine briefly the nature of the self image and those experiences which make decisive contributions to its development. After defining the self image and evaluating the impact of society and the teacher on its formation, …

Reading Is Also Involvement, Malcolm Robertson Jan 1966

Reading Is Also Involvement, Malcolm Robertson

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Twenty years ago, mental health personnel talked and wrote much about man's aggressive impulse and the subtle and not so subtle ramifications of this impulse in various areas of human existence. They deplored man's aggression toward man. However, during the last decade the concern has shifted from man's aggression toward man to man's indifference toward man. Many times we can do something about people hurting one another, but what can you do when people simply don't care what happens to their fellow human beings. How often do we pick up the newspaper and read an account of how "law-abiding" citizens, …

The Orientation And Mobility Needs Of Blind Youth In A Highly-Impacted Metropolitan Area, Lawrence E. Blaha Dec 1965

The Orientation And Mobility Needs Of Blind Youth In A Highly-Impacted Metropolitan Area, Lawrence E. Blaha

Masters Theses

Introduction

Mobility enables man to interact with his surroundings, and to influence his environment as well as to be influenced by it. The need for the blind individual to relate himself to his environment has been the motivation for the development of orientation and mobility instruction.

While orientation and mobility for the blind is a relatively new discipline, the systemic use of basic techniques, i.e. hand-and-arm techniques and the use of long, light, functional cane as a mode of travel, has been validated empirically with more than a thousand blinded adults. These techniques have also been used successfully with blind …

An Investigation Of The Relationships Between Judgements Of Esophageal And Artificial Larynx Speech Made By Sophisticated And Naïve Judges, Gerald Robert Moses

Masters Theses

The Background and Purpose of the Study

Introduction

Laryngectomy, the surgical removal of the larynx, is performed to save life threatened by a carcinomatous condition of the larynx. This surgical procedure is also performed when necessitated by accident, injury or other pathologies of the larynx. (35).

There are living, in the United States, an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 individuals who have undergone surgical removal of the larynx due to the carcinomatous condition of that organ (33). It is probable that the total population of laryngectomized persons would exceed this number if statistical information were available concerning the number of laryngectomies …
