International Journal of Exercise Science 14(2): 295-303, 2021. The purpose of this study was to verify whether cooling between sets during high-intensity resistance exercise improves physical performance and to compare performance among different sites of cooling. It is important because delaying the muscular fatigue could improve total volume at a training session which could lead to greater hypertrophy. Nine healthy and recreational resistance training experienced men, performed six tests of a biceps curl exercise on different days. The first test was the one-repetition maximum test (1RM). The study purpose was to determine the relationship of resting heart rate variability (HRV) and testosterone to cortisol (T:C) ratio, along with the diagnostic ability of HRV to assess changes in T:C ratio during a 9-week high-intensity functional training intervention. Symptoms of Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS) are common among athletes of various sports and levels, but studies describing the prevalence of MTSS symptoms are lacking. Possible contributing factors of MTSS include an individual’s flexor digitorum longus attachment and soleus muscle, a pronated foot, large loads of mechanical forces, large calf girth, and gender. CASE HISTORY: The patient in this study was a 21-year-old college student. She sustained the injury when jumping from height at a trampoline park onto an airbag with the foot in full plantarflexion and phalanges in full extension. PHYSICAL EXAM: Immediately following the injury, the patient described severe pain and inability to ambulate with proper gait. Post-exercise hypotension (PEH) plays an important role in the antihypertensive health benefits of exercise. While it has been shown that resistance exercise is effective at eliciting PEH, commonly consumed sports supplements may attenuate or completely eliminate that response. Recent data shows that fatigue may ‘cross-over’ to the contralateral, non-fatigued muscle group following fatiguing unilateral activity and these effects may be influenced by sex. PURPOSE: This study examines whether the cross-over effects of handgrip fatigue are influenced by sex. METHODS: Thirty-two (n = 16 females, n = 16 males) right-hand dominant individuals performed a maximal intermittent handgrip fatigue protocol with their non-dominant hand. A control visit was also performed, and the visits were completed in a randomized order. Previous studies have shown that the broad jump is a good predictor of sprint performance. The bilateral and unilateral broad jump have been used to monitor jumping abilities in a wide variety of sports. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the world’s leading cause of death, with type 2 diabetes (T2D) increasing that risk ~3-fold. T2D incidence in Hispanics of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) is >27% vs 9% noted nationwide. Further, having a family history of T2D (FH+) increases risk by ~40%.
