Information And Communication Technologies (Icts) And Citizenship, Kathrin Michaela Auzinger-Hotzel
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Democracy depends on the civic and political engagement of individuals. Despite a growing body of research analyzing political engagement in the United States, little attention has been paid to the relationship between information and communication technologies (ICTs) and perceptions of citizens concerning civic participation. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between ICTs, perceptions of citizenship, and participatory preferences for 18- to 35-year-olds in the United States. Applying Olson's theory of collective action, the goal of the study was to understand how ICT use influenced changes in perceptions of citizenship between 2004 and 2014. A repeated …

Data from interviews and lesson demonstrations were analyzed via a constructivist framework first identifying themes and then categories. …
The Effect Of Volunteer Demographics On Nonprofit Volunteer Retention, Keri Vanoverschelde
The Effect Of Volunteer Demographics On Nonprofit Volunteer Retention, Keri Vanoverschelde
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nonprofit organizations rely upon volunteers to assist in achieving their mission and reaching strategic operational goals. As the volunteer population in the United States has decreased, nonprofit organizations are challenged to recruit and retain volunteers. To improve operational efficiencies in nonprofit volunteer management, organizations need to implement more effective strategies to assign roles to volunteers and develop a better understanding of how those roles fit into volunteers' lives and the value systems of individual volunteers. The functional theory of volunteer behavior characterizes the values, understanding, social, career, protective, and enhancement functions as they relate to an individual's motivation for volunteering. …

Rural Jail Administrators Perceptions Of Take-Home Naloxone To Control Opioid Overdoses, Jaclyn Woollett
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Opioid overdoses and overdose deaths have increased significantly throughout the United States. Naloxone distribution has become a harm reduction strategy that has proven effective in reducing opioid overdoses in urban areas through drug treatment centers and needle exchange programs. However, limited research is available on the efficacy and feasibility of these programs in rural locations and other nontraditional settings. Guided by harm reduction theory, the purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to address this gap by exploring the feasibility of implementing a take home naloxone program in rural jails. Perceived Parental Barriers To Preventive Dental Care Programs For Children, Kim Attanasi
Perceived Parental Barriers To Preventive Dental Care Programs For Children, Kim Attanasi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Dental caries is the most prevalent childhood illness and disproportionately affects children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Dental organizations are collaborating within communities to decrease oral health disparities among children by offering free preventive oral health events. These programs face the problem of low enrollment due to lack of informed parental consent. Also, gaps in the literature indicated the need to examine oral health perceptions and dental-care-seeking practices of culturally diverse low-income parents regarding preventive care for their children. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the reasons why parents are not allowing their children to participate in …
