Planning And Instruction Of Social Emotional Learning In Elementary Art Education, Jonathan Daniel Juravich

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Educators, parents, and researchers uphold that intentional social emotional learning (SEL) can positively benefit student well-being, especially when the learning is integrated into all educational content areas. The problem under study was that though research has highlighted the connection between SEL and visual art education, how teachers intentionally plan for and implement an SEL-integrated art curriculum was not well researched. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore how elementary visual art educators in a midwestern state, with both visual art and SEL standards, intentionally plan for and implement an SEL-integrated art curriculum. Staff Education Project For Adult Icu Nurses, Hani Ayyad

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education project is a crucial initiative designed to enhance nursing knowledge and skills in the care of central lines. Its overarching goal is to reduce the incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in a teaching hospital. Given that CLABSIs are a major concern in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), due to higher morbidity, mortality, and healthcare expenditures, this project is very important. My goal was to fill these gaps by providing a comprehensive staff education program addressing this critical issue. The evidence-based practice question (EBP) guiding this Doctor of Nursing Project (DNP) project was: Does the Staff Education …

Relationship Between Cultural Barriers, Adaptation Mechanisms, And Quality Of Life Among Congolese Refugees, Ndasi Zialo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Refugee cultural backgrounds are different from the primary culture in which they live. Cultural barriers have been identified as contributing factors to disparities in mental health services among refugees in the host country. They face racism, discrimination, and marginalization that impede their access to mental health services compared to the host populations. The Western model of mental health services was developed for the unique needs of the European refugees and could not always meet the needs of the non-European refugee populations. The lack of culturally specific mental health services creates disparities in mental health services that affect the quality of …

Factors That Influence Elementary School Teachers Who Refer Students To Special, La' Trina Dudley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is an overrepresentation of African American students in special education classes; placing African Americans disproportionately in special education classes lowers their self-esteem and compromises their academic performance. This study aimed to increase understanding of the meaning-making processes elementary school general education teachers use to refer African American students for special education services. I used critical race theory (CRT) to support the study, which suggests that structural racism in schools harms African American students' self-esteem and academic achievement. Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

A predominant health issue at colleges and universities is alcohol use. This is also true for deaf and hard of hearing college students. Key stakeholders who observe and witness this alcohol dynamic are staff. Researchers used a semi-structured qualitative guide to interview Gallaudet University staff (N = 26) to learn about their perspectives on and experiences with student alcohol use. Through thematic analysis, they identified several dominant themes that were then grouped into the three levels of the social-ecological model. First, they identified intrapersonal factors, including fear of missing out and coping strategies. Second, they identified interpersonal factors such …

Psychological Well-Being Of International Students In Qatar, Padmakumari Chandrannair Sarada

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

International students experience adaptation difficulties that have the potential to affect their psychological well-being. Qatar has a growing yet understudied population of international students. The problem addressed in this study is that little is known about the role that cultural distance, psychological well-being, and selected demographic variables play for the international student population in Qatar. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to measure the effect of the predictors—cultural distance, age, gender, and length of residency—on the psychological well-being of international students in Qatar.
