Evidence-Based Approaches To Screening For Polypharmacy In Older Adults, Carmelo Maddy
Evidence-Based Approaches To Screening For Polypharmacy In Older Adults, Carmelo Maddy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPolypharmacy is the concomitant use of five or more medicines and is associated with a higher risk of being prescribed potentially inappropriate or interactive medications. Polypharmacy in adults over 60 years of age may correlate with adverse outcomes of multimorbidity such as functional impairment, low quality of life, high healthcare use, and increased costs. Health practitioners need to be aware of tools and methods to manage polypharmacy-related issues to optimize patient safety. The gap in practice is that a primary care practice did not have a comprehensive clinical guideline for a systematic and ongoing assessment of appropriateness of medication use …

Five-Year Cervical Cancer Survival Rates By Stage At Diagnosis, Race, And Place Of Residence In Georgia, Usa, Layal Mansour
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite breakthroughs and improvement in cervical cancer (cercancer) management strategies over the years, racial and geographical disparities on 5-year relative survival rates (RSRs) persist. Studies showed black women have higher mortality rates than white women with the majority of deaths occurring among women above age 45. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the predicting abilities of race and residence on 5-year RSRs by stage at diagnosis and the potential effect on survival probability in the early stage of cercancer for women above 45 years living in Georgia. Anderson's behavioral model for inequalities in healthcare was the theoretical …

Exclusionary discipline practices (EDPs), including suspensions and expulsions, are used in public schools, from kindergarten to 12th grade (K–12). Excessive use of EDP can have a negative impact as students face delays in completion of their academic work. The problem of increasing use of EDPs at a suburban public school district located in a southern state was addressed in this study. Hallinger and Murphy’s instructional leadership model was used to examine the perceptions of K–12 school principals regarding their use of instructional leadership practices to reduce the use of EDPs. Purposeful sampling was used in this basic qualitative study to …

Teach-Back Program To Improve The Quality Of Patient Medication Education, Dawn Africa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractInstitutions are invested in improving healthcare providers’ ability to enhance the quality of patient teaching. The teach-back method provides tools and strategies for promoting patient-focused learning and has the potential to increase nurses’ conviction and confidence in teaching patients about their medications. Nurses are not routinely taught how to teach patients, and they usually lack confidence in teaching about medications. This project was developed using the Donabedian model of structure, process, and outcomes. As law enforcement in the United States struggles to improve relationships with the communities they serve, especially in the wake of unprecedented police use of deadly force incidents, police community relations continue to deteriorate. With advancements in technology and the creation and introduction of the Internet, footage of police misconduct including the use of deadly force has been shared on social media in real time. This has made situations between the community and police fragile to a point where it sometimes results in rioting and other public disturbances. Many have asked if the introduction of police worn-body camera systems …
