Educators' Perspectives On Coordination Of Transition Programming For Early Childhood Students With Asd In Inclusive Settings, Lashundra Dees

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Coordination of special education prekindergarten (PK) to kindergarten (K) transition programming for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) represents significant changes for students within inclusive school environments. The problem addressed by this basic qualitative study involved barriers, challenges, supports, and successes in the coordination of transition programming from PK to K for students with ASD. This study addressed a gap in the literature on educators' perspectives on the coordination of transition programming. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory framed this study that explored the perspectives of 11 educators. Relationship Between Employee Engagement, Kind Of Initiatives, And Workplace Wellness Program Effectiveness, Alicia Dobrzeniecki Jan 2022

Relationship Between Employee Engagement, Kind Of Initiatives, And Workplace Wellness Program Effectiveness, Alicia Dobrzeniecki

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ineffective workplace wellness programs prevent organizations from decreasing employee health and well-being costs. Workplace wellness managers lose more than $1,100 in decreased productivity each year. Grounded in the theory of planned behavior, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between workplace wellness engagement, kind of workplace wellness initiatives, and workplace wellness program effectiveness. Data were collected from 146 workplace wellness program managers who completed the HERO scorecard. The multiple linear regression analysis results indicated the model was able to significantly predict workplace wellness program effectiveness, F(2, 143) = 85.482, p = < .001, R² = .545. Both predictors provided a significant contribution to the model, with workplace wellness engagement level (t = 8.342, p = < .001, β = .543) providing a higher contribution to the model than kind of workplace wellness initiatives (t = 4.584, p = < .001, β = .298). A key recommendation for workplace wellness program managers is to emphasize employee engagement in workplace wellness programs and choose the appropriate initiatives to ensure workplace wellness program effectiveness. The implications for positive social change include the potential for improved health and well-being within the U.S. workforce.

Mental Health Professionals And Family Burden: Ways To Improve Training And Treatment, Johnnie Lee Jenkins, Iii

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

During deinstitutionalization, schizophrenia treatment shifted from state facilities to communities and families. This change stressed families. This study investigated mental health professionals' (MHPs) knowledge and training about this stress also called family burden (FB). The study had three research questions. These addressed MHPs’ view of FB, what barriers exist in treating FB, can multiple viewpoints define FB, and if these views influence MHPs to reduce it. This grounded theory study used 22 MHPs in seven focus groups (FGs). The participant recruitment process included email, list serves, phone calls, and one state conference. Comparison Between Hospital Ownerships In The Prevention Of Surgical Site Infections, Kameha Johnson Jan 2022

Comparison Between Hospital Ownerships In The Prevention Of Surgical Site Infections, Kameha Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractMillions of Americans seek health care for surgical interventions throughout the United States. Despite the 2010 Affordable Health Reform Act, hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are still rising. Specifically, surgical site infections (SSIs) are a national problem in both non-profit and for-profit hospitals. SSIs are the third most commonly reported HAIs and account for 14%-16% of HAIs among U.S. patients. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine an association between the independent variable of the type of hospital ownership (i.e., non-profit and for-profit), and SSI rates, health care utilization cost (i.e., readmission rates and LOS), and patient outcome measures (i.e., …

Strategies To Implement An Electronic Medical Records System In Health Care Organizations, Ashley Knott Jan 2022

Strategies To Implement An Electronic Medical Records System In Health Care Organizations, Ashley Knott

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite the 2009 mandate from the U.S. Government that healthcare organizations adopt and implement electronic medical records (EMR) systems to avoid fines and take advantage of the benefits EMR systems provide, adoption of EMR systems in the United States has been low. Since 2011, medical facilities have received incentive payments if they demonstrated “meaningful use” of certified EMR systems; however, medical facilities unable to demonstrate meaningful use beginning in 2015 have faced up to 5% penalties. Grounded in the diffusion of innovation theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies that hospital project managers use …

Self-Monitoring In Military Consumer Research, Alan Oliver Wright Jan 2022

Self-Monitoring In Military Consumer Research, Alan Oliver Wright

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Underutilized military products exist among soldiers and can reduce safety, performance, and morale. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which self-monitoring constructs (Self-Monitoring, Acting, Extraversion, and Other-Directedness), gender, leadership, length of service, deployments, and combat experience predict military consumer attitudes. Self-monitoring theory describes differences in expressive control and self-presentation to predict consumer attitudes and behavior. High self-monitors alter their consumer behavior to gain social favor and low self-monitors base their consumer decisions on product quality, functionality, and internally held views of self. An archival dataset was used with 220 active-duty soldiers who provided liking ratings …

Smoking Cessation: Factors That Determine Cigarette Smokers Lived Experiences To Quit, John F. Zogbo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractSmoking is a serious public health problem because of its close link to health conditions such as lung cancer. Smoking cessation has received significant attention in research that contributes to successful quitting, but not much is known about smokers’ reasons for and experiences of quit attempts. This qualitative phenomenological study explored factors that contribute to failed quit attempt experiences among adults 18–40 years old. The researcher recruited 30 participants, 22 males, and eight females, who had participated in a cessation program with the Indiana Department of Health, but failed to quit, or had successfully quit but who had returned to …

Death With Dignity: Barriers For Prisoners Suffering From Irreversible Mental Illness, Kymberli D. Mills

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Overcrowded prison system conditions can significantly worsen mental illness. Compassionate prison segregation options required for substantive mental health care are lacking. Improving Colonoscopy Bowel Preparation In Adults Undergoing Screening Through Health Literacy Education, Kimmarie James-Ross

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women in the United States. Colonoscopy is the gold standard for CRC screening; however, the diagnostic efficiency of a colonoscopy is highly dependent on bowel preparation (prep) quality. Up to 30% of colonoscopy patients present with poor bowel prep. Poor bowel prep is a significant clinical practice problem that can lead to missed lesions, increased risk for CRC, increased risks for procedure-related complications, ineffective use of resources, and increased health care costs. A huge barrier to effective colonoscopy is low health literacy. This quality improvement project …
