Effective Engagement Strategies For Management To Increase Job Satisfaction Within Virtual Teams, Judy R. Ramphal
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Job satisfaction within virtual teams is a significant challenge for many corporations, affecting goal achievement, retention, and performance. Some managers of medium to large companies lack strategies for the engagement of virtual team members to ensure job satisfaction. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this qualitative, multiple case study was to explore effective engagement strategies that some managers of medium and large companies use to increase job satisfaction within virtual teams. Participants included five upper-level managers from five companies who were successful in managing engagement strategies in virtual teams. Thematic analysis revealed three major themes: continuous communication with …

The Lived Experience Of Immigrant Parents Raising First-Generation Adolescents In The United States, Hala Mohamed Hassan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Immigrant parents experience challenges raising adolescent children, including cultural adaptation, language barriers, and generational differences, and how these impact adolescent development in bicultural contexts. Relatively little is understood about immigrant parents raising first-generation adolescents. The purpose of this study, grounded in Baumrind’s parenting style theory and Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, was to explore the lived experiences of immigrant parents raising first-generation adolescents in the United States using a qualitative phenomenological approach. This study employed semistructured interviews with 12 immigrant parents of first-generation teenagers aged 13-19, with data analyzed thematically to identify patterns and themes in participants’ experiences. Key findings revealed the …

Multiple case studies and available data supported the effectiveness of residential fire sprinklers. Despite this, 48 states have not implemented a requirement for residential sprinklers in newly constructed homes and 46 have eliminated the requirement. The purpose of this study was to examine which states have adopted the recommendation and to what extent. This generic qualitative study is an exploration of the reasons behind the lack of adoption. Data from reports, charts, and tables from publicly available sources, including government and stakeholder websites, were analyzed using expected utility theory to compile a findings table. The results indicated that only Maryland …
Perspectives Of Probation Officers On Training To Support Women Who Commit Co-Occurring Crimes, Cynthia Stephens
Perspectives Of Probation Officers On Training To Support Women Who Commit Co-Occurring Crimes, Cynthia Stephens
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The lack of understanding about probation officers’ (POs’) training views, especially concerning female offenders, reduces training and reentry effectiveness for female criminals. This study investigated POs’ perspectives on their training to assist women with co-occurring offenses by developing a practical intervention framework to improve reentry outcomes. The labeling and dual-role relationship theories served as the theoretical foundation to answer the research question, which involved identifying the perspectives of POs on training to support women with co-occurring crimes. A phenomenological design and in-depth face-to-face PO interviews were appropriate to answer the research question. Thematic analysis occurred to identify key concepts revealed …

Social Support And Treatment Outcomes Among Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis And Persons Living With Hiv In Nigeria, Abiodun Olusegun Hassan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
An estimated 40% of people with tuberculosis (TB) are missed due to underdiagnosis, and among those previously treated TB cases, about a quarter develop drug-resistant TB in Nigeria. The emergence of multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) is stalling the effort towards TB’s control and eradication. Few studies have examined the impact of the psychosocial effect and support systems for TB, particularly for MDR-TB. In this quantitative, cross-sectional study, the predictive relationship between social support given to MDR-TB patients and their treatment outcomes was examined using secondary data of 594 MDR-TB cases enrolled between January 2018 and December 2021. The theoretical framework for …

A Qualitative Examination Of Probationary Police Candidate Success And Attrition, Joseph Eugene Roy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Law enforcement has undergone significant changes, requiring modern officers to embody a complex blend of traditional values and adaptive capabilities. Despite rigorous selection and training processes, some police recruits leave the profession prematurely, often during their probationary or field training phases. This early attrition represents a costly challenge for law enforcement agencies, with training expenses sometimes exceeding $200,000 per recruit. This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of police recruits who successfully completed field training and compared them to the observations of FTOs who trained recruits who left law enforcement early. The research used Edwin Sutherland’s differential association theory and …

Arab Americans’ Views Of Arab Lobbying Efforts Related To The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, Samar Farha
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research on ethnic lobbying has largely neglected the perspectives of Arab Americans, creating a disconnect between this community and their lobbying efforts. This gap is crucial because it threatens to widen the disconnect between Arab Americans and their lobbying groups, where effective lobbying depends on a unified message. Existing studies highlight this gap, pointing out the lack of unified organization and ongoing resource constraints that limit the influence of Arab American lobbyists on U.S. foreign policy. The purpose of this generic qualitative was to explore Arab Americans’ perceptions of their lobbying efforts and the factors shaping these perceptions based on …

Grounded in general systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative study was to ask about the lived experiences of military commanders on reintegration preparation training, regarding proactive intervention during deployment, and about identity adjustment issues upon reintegration. The participants comprised six active and retired military …
Policymakers’ Perceptions About Providing Affordable Housing In Rural Georgia, Robert Joseph Wiley
Policymakers’ Perceptions About Providing Affordable Housing In Rural Georgia, Robert Joseph Wiley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The literature showed that low-income households face a persistent deficit of affordable housing, forcing these families to live in dilapidated housing or to live beyond their means to pay for adequate housing, and that this problem transcends rural and urban counties. Further, researchers indicated that solving this problem provided a stable workforce and a better quality of life for all income groups. A gap in the literature showed the need for more research on nonmetropolitan communities addressing housing and neighborhood revitalization; therefore, through this qualitative multiple-case study local policymakers' perceptions of the affordable housing problem in rural Georgia were explored. …

Forging Sustainable Retention Strategies For Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses In Rural Texas Hospitals, Yvette Eartha Stephenson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Background: Health care delivery in rural medical-surgical units is significantly hindered by nurse shortages, particularly in underserved areas. While various approaches to retention have been studied, there remains a lack of focus on sustainable strategies explicitly tailored for rural settings. Purpose: In this integrative review, guided by the situational leadership theory (SLT) framework, sustainable nurse retention strategies for rural medical-surgical units were investigated. The SLT emphasizes four leadership components, supporting, delegating, directing, and coaching, which were the foundation for categorizing themes and subthemes in this analysis. Method: A review of peer-reviewed literature published between 2019 and 2024 was conducted while …

A rural school in a large district in the south-central United States experienced higher absentee rates for students with disabilities than for students in traditional courses. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore Title I special education teachers’ perspectives about the reasons for chronic absenteeism and barriers affecting attendance of students with disabilities. Guided by Bandura’s social learning theory, which highlights how social contexts influence children’s learning behaviors and actions, suggests that children observe others’ actions and mentally process whether they are appropriate or not, this study explored perceived reasons and barriers for chronic absenteeism among students …
Staff Education Program On Utilizing Non-Pharmacological Interventions To Manage Aggression Among Psychiatric Patients, Olivia Nguh
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The staff education project aimed to address the gap in practice regarding the management of aggression in psychiatric patients at a local mental health clinic. Approximately 40% of the clinic’s patient population exhibited aggressive behaviors, including verbal threats, and physical altercations. However, nurses primarily relied on pharmacological interventions and physical restraints to manage these behaviors, which failed to address underlying causes, such as psychiatric conditions and environmental stressors. A review of the literature demonstrated strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions, with studies highlighting how structured training programs significantly reduced aggression, and improved patient and staff outcomes. The project …

Navigating The Low Covid-19 Vaccination Rate Nexus: Biblical Interpretations & Practices Of Pentecostal Christians In Dmv, Patricia Mbah Nchamukong
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The development and release of a vaccine during an epidemic is aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of infection, transmission, and spread of the disease. However, this does not always guarantee the acceptance of the vaccine by the entire population, as was the case with the COVID-19 vaccine. The low COVID-19 vaccine rate within the Black Pentecostal Christian community in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) is a public health concern. Some factors that might have influenced the decision of this population to accept or reject the vaccine have been linked to politics, anti-COVID-19 vaccine sentiments, and religion. The purpose …

Employee retention in the behavioral health sector is a critical challenge that directly impacts the quality of care for clients and the long-term sustainability of healthcare organizations. Despite the importance of retention, some healthcare agency managers face difficulties in implementing effective strategies for retaining trained behavioral health professionals. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to identify strategies seven behavioral health agency managers in South Florida used to retain behavioral health professionals. Data gathered through semistructured interviews were thematically analyzed, leading to the identification of three themes: (a) a culture of appreciation, (b) instrumental …
Clinical Practice Guideline For Delirium Screening, Raji George
Clinical Practice Guideline For Delirium Screening, Raji George
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary This doctoral project developed a clinical practice guideline (CPG) to address the critical health issue of early identification of delirium among hospitalized high-risk patients. Hospital delirium is associated with prolonged hospital stay, increased nursing home or rehab use after hospitalization, and higher mortality. Evidence shows that systematic screening improves delirium identification among hospitalized high-risk adults. However, there was no clinical practice guideline for delirium screening at the project facility for high-risk, non-intensive care unit patients. Therefore, the practice-focused question for the project was, “Does the evidence support the development of a CPG for delirium screening in high-risk hospitalized patients …
