Herd Efficiency And Profitability, Jesse Russell, D. R. Zobell

All Current Publications

Raising beef cattle can be very rewarding. First, if you like raising cattle, maintaining your tie to the land, and seeing the product of your labors, it can truly be satisfying to see young calves in the spring, watch them grow and progress. Second, here can also be a financial reward when the calves are weaned and sold. However, the satisfaction of these two aspects may all depend on your herd’s efficiency and profitability.

Effect Of Sucrose Esters On The Crystallization Behavior Of Bulk Oil Systems, Silvana Martini, M. Cerdeira, M. L. Herrera

Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences Faculty Publications

Sucrose esters (SE) of FA can be used in foods as emulsifiers because they are nontoxic, tasteless, odorless, and are digested to sucrose and FA in the stomach. They can also be used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics and in other products where a nonionic, nontoxic, biodegradable emulsifier is required. In addition to their major function of producing and stabilizing emulsions, SE have numerous other functional roles as texturizers, film formers, and modifiers of bulk-phase crystallization behavior (with bulk phase meaning a homogeneous oil phase). A few reports have dealt with the effect of SE on the crystallization behavior of fats …

Nitrogen Fertilizer Form And Associated Nitrate Leaching From Cool-Season Lawn Turf, Karl Guillard, Kelly L. Kopp

CWEL Publications

Various N fertilizer sources are available for lawn turf. Few field studies, however, have determined the losses of nitrate (NO 3–N) from lawns receiving different formulations of N fertilizers. The objectives of this study were to determine the differences in NO3–N leaching losses among various N fertilizer sources and to ascertain when losses were most likely to occur. The field experiment was set out in a completely random design on a turf typical of the lawns in southern New England. Treatments consisted of four fertilizer sources with fast- and slow-release N formulations: (i) ammonium nitrate (AN), (ii) polymer-coated sulfur-coated urea …
